I do that too. I also shake holy water at night for the Holy souls trusting my angel to carry the blessing.

Like many others, I too believe and adhere to the practice of praying for those who have passed on. When I pray for the dead, I make it a point to refer to them as Holy Souls. I believe it helps keep "the others" away.
What beautiful thing to do, AED!

I do that too, asking Jesus in His mercy to pour forth His blood and water over the Holy souls. If I forget it, I cannot rest but have to get up and do this.

Agree, when my mother passed away last October it cost almost $12,000 for it. I also live paycheck to paycheck. Truly sad for those who are trying to give our loved ones a proper burial.

I am grappling with this. We need to buy burial plots and get an insurance policy to cover the costs. Its a thing I just haven't wanted to face.:(

Be aware this cost was without the plot, she already had purchased it when my father passed 30 years ago.

Sorry I meant to say it was 900.00 for cremation just a few years ago, now it's gone so high. It's like they want to keep us too broke to live and too broke to die. Church fees, plot etc. It seems almost impossible.

Yikes. This is staggering. No wonder so many people forego traditional funerals. I will have to think on this.

Are there any charities dedicated to paying for funeral costs of those who cant pay them? Would this count as the corporeal act of mercy "bury the dead"? Since getting permission to use a literal shovel to dig a stanger's grave would be problematic in today's society (y)

I think it will be a relief once you take the first step.

Perhaps parishes could carry out this pious act in chapels reserved for the city's parish priests.

  15. Feast day of all souls. From the Handbook of Indulgences, Norms and Grants pg. 91 Visiting a Church or an Oratory on All Souls Day
A plenary indulgence which is applicable only to the souls in purgatory is granted the Christian faithful who devoutly visit a church or an oratory on All Souls Day. This indulgence can be obrained either on the day mentioned above or, with the consent of the ordinary, on the preceding or following Sunday or on the solemnity of All Saints. According to norm 16 of the apostolic constitution, this visit is to include the recitation of the Lord's prayer and the Creed.
