Very kind of you to respond. Thank you. But I still feel Sr Aiello saw what the SOVIET UNION had planned to do before Pope JPII, THATCHER, and REAGAN had teamed up. We are seeing a different scenario today in our complicated geopolitics. Worldwide atheism, abortion, socialism (freemasonry), and radical Islam are not errors from Russia. They are errors from the West turning its back from God. We are at fault. Our media, culture, government, and even Churches are tainted by our own sins of greed, lies, corruption. I just don't see Russia invading Western Europe today, unless, Europe begs them to save them from the evil of radical Islam. An invasion from Russia would cost an enormous amount of money and resources. Russia cannot do this alone.

 

This makes more sense to me than talk of evil Russia over-running Christian Europe at a time when there's a resurgence of Christianity in Russia while Europe boasts about its "post-Christian" culture.

We must remember that prophecy about future tribulations can be mitigated by prayer. At the time of most of those prophecies Russia was the big bad bear and Europe, even France, was mostly Catholic. We also must remember that there is a certain amount of human interpretation of prophecies. How do we know that what those particular prophets saw as bad Russian forces over-running Christian Europe wasn't Christian Russia coming to the aid of European Christians? If Heaven accepted St. John Paul's consecration and the promise of Fatima is honoured by God, Russia could be the means God uses to save us. I know that sounds far-fetched because Putin is no angel but how much worse can he be than the likes of Obama, Hollande or the dreaded Clinton?

I was listening today to an interview with someone from Aid to the Church in Need. He was talking about the plight of people in Aleppo. You get a whole different perspective of what's happening there from people who are still in contact with folk on the ground in these war-ravaged areas. For example, when all the usual aid agencies withdraw their people for safety reasons, the Churches are still there doing what they can. When he gave the example of what Iraqi Christians will face should they ever try to return to the Ninevah plains, it brought home to me how fortunate we are. One family that had to flee with just the clothes on their backs got a text message from their neighbour shortly afterwards telling them that he had been through their house, taken their possessions, money and valuables, keeping half for himself and giving half to ISIS. Those Christians will be expected to return to their old neighbourhoods and live among the same neighbours who betrayed them. Those neighbours are the same people the Western powers are crying over. The spokesman certainly wasn't singing Russia's praises, nor was he demonising the West but he was letting us know that there are multiple sides to the Syrian story. The Christian population in Iraq has fallen by 75% since 2003. Promises of freedom and democracy, regime change, the Arab Spring, etc. didn't bring much hope and change to them. (I recommend Spirit Radio to anyone in Ireland sick and tired of the drivel and spin churned out by RTE and Newstalk).

Maybe it's time for us Catholics to take another look at those old prophecies in light of how Europe has changed over the years.

 

It is certainly counter intuitive to name Russia. But it was Russia that was named specifically in all these prophesies (particularly Fatima and Garabandal ) so my money is still on Russia.

 

That's a fair bet if you believe that St. John Paul's consecration didn't fulfil Our Lady's request. I won't comment on Garabandal because although Conchita comes across as honest and trustworthy, I'm not fully convinced of the authenticity of the apparitions.

 

Yes that's it Dolours, exactly, I was jsut thinking that myself, great minds think alike. It all comes down to the argument over whether of not the Consecration was carried out or not. I don't want to reignite that arguemnt for we have had it over and over and over again on the forum. My own opinon is it most certainly was not carried out.

Actually the guy who was tasked by Pope St John Paul to organise things for the supposed consecration was believe it or not, the Late Fr Amorth and he had strong opinions himself that the Consercration was not carried out and since he organised the event I suppose he should know.

It does seem counter intuitive, but if you said a few back that Russia would be the most Christian nation in the Europe people would have looked at you sideways. The so many prophecies say Russia will attack Europe. For the most part they do not appear to be conditional. God can do anything. My money is on what approved prophecy has to say. Russia attacking the West is just about the most common theme aside from the Three Days of Darkness.

The fall of the Soviet Union so soon after the consecration is enough to convince me that it was acceptable to Heaven as Sr. Lucy is reported to have said. I don't doubt Fr. Amorth's account of what happened. At the same time, I believe that Sr. Lucy wouldn't have said it was acceptable to Heaven if she didn't mean it. I also believe that if Sr. Lucy felt that Our Lady's wishes had been disregarded she would have said so to her denying day, even if that meant saying so to the Pope. I believe that the consecration brought an end to the Cold War and that the world's powerful elite blew the opportunity to cement a long lasting peace with Russia.

There was a link on that video to this: Now, much as it can be written off as Russian propaganda, you can't argue with the core message that Christianity is dying out in the West and being replaced by something that should trouble any observant Christian. Nobody knows better than the Russians that what is being touted in the West under the guise of equality or diversity is destructive to society. They know because that's the kind of stuff that had a prominent place on the agenda of movements they supported in Western democracies. While those movements or political alliances talked and agitated on behalf of the working poor, income inequality always took second place to "social injustices" whenever they got a sniff of influence. Whether or not Putin's portraying himself as a faithful Orthodox Christian is genuine, he knows that the Orthodox Church would be a formidable enemy. Where Christianity is concerned, the Western super powers are now where the Soviets once were - they pretend to tolerate it while actually despising it and doing everything they can to suppress and destroy it. The West is now supporting anti-Christian movements in Russia to undermine Putin, just as the Soviets did in Europe and the US. What's happening in the Middle East is evidence to me that the wheel has turned full circle.

Ask yourself which powerful country has a better change of having a Christian leader in the foreseeable future - and I mean a Christian who actually believes in the freedom of religion rather than the freedom to worship; a Christian who believes and actually promotes the traditional family as the lynchpin of a stable society. The US? The UK? France, Germany or any European country? Russia? The answer should tell you whether Heaven has accepted the Consecration. Our failure to make the most of the fall of the Soviet Union isn't Heaven's fault.

 

For a long period under Stalin and Communism Abortion was in fact totally outlawed:

Some historians have noted that it was during this time that Soviet propaganda began to depict homosexuality as a sign of fascism, and that Article 121 may have a simple political tool to use against dissidents, irrespective of their true sexual orientation, and to solidify Russian opposition to Nazi Germany, who had broken its treaty with Russia.[15]


More recently, a third possible reason for the anti-gay law has emerged from declassified Soviet documents and transcripts. Beyond expressed fears of a vast "counterrevolutionary" or fascist homosexual conspiracy, there were several high profile arrests of Russian men accused of being pederasts.[16] In 1933, 130 men "were accused of being 'pederasts' – adult males who have sex with boys. Since no records of men having sex with boys at that time are available, it is possible this term was used broadly and crudely to label homosexuality."[16] Whatever the precise reason, homosexuality remained a serious criminal offense until it was repealed in 1993.[16]


The Soviet government itself said very little publicly about the change in the law, and few people seemed to be aware that it existed. In 1934, the British Communist Harry Whyte wrote a long letter to Stalin condemning the law, and its prejudicial motivations. He laid out a Marxist position against the oppression of homosexuals, as a social minority, and compared homophobia to racism, xenophobia and sexism.[17] While the letter was not formally replied to, Soviet cultural writer Maxim Gorky authored an article, published in both Pravda and Izvestia titled "Proletarian Humanism", that seemed to reject Whyte's arguments point by point. He rejected the notion that homosexuals were a social minority, and argued that the Soviet Union, governed by "manly proletariat", is obliged to persecute homosexuals to protect the youth from their corrupting effect. He also equated homosexuality with fascism, stating that destroying homosexuality would in turn destroy fascism.[18][19]


A few years later, 1936, Justice Commissar Nikolai Krylenko publicly stated that the anti-gay criminal law was correctly aimed at the decadent and effete old ruling classes, thus further linking homosexuality to a right-wing conspiracy, i.e. tsarist aristocracy and German fascists.[16]

They received a permission to convene a council on September 8, 1943, that elected Sergius Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus'. A new patriarch was elected, theological schools were opened, and thousands of churches began to function. The Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary which had been closed since 1918 was re-opened.

My point being that people have often evil reasons for doing good things and reason that seem very good for doing evil things.

All that glitters is not gold. Stalin had his reasons, so too has Putin. They may not be good ones. In fact I am quite sure they are not. No more were Stalin's.

 

The same is true for the USA of course with both Clinton and Trump claiming to be devout Christians . All these politicians would claim to be five legged sheep from the planet Mars if it would gain them power.

I hate to sound cynical but I don't believe a word of it from anyone of them, Putin included . He just betrayed his wife to go to his mistress. A man who cannot keep his vows and his word to his wife will certainly not tell the truth or keep his word to any of us.

They all make my blood run cold just to look at them.

 

I respect your position Dolours, but I respectfully have my own reservations. I don't know if what was done in 1984 was "acceptable" or not, but we do know 3 things:

1. It was never done according to the specific requirements laid down by Our Lady and Russia was not named.

2. There was no miraculous conversion of Russia to Catholicism (Sr. Lucy did say in an interview that it would be converted to Catholicism, not just a vague returning to Christianity). It seems this was to be so spectacular that the world would directly see the connection with the consecration and credit the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Similar to what happened with Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Indians.

3. The great Era of Peace never materialized.

We are now over 30 years later and nothing like these things has happened.

 

Russia's communistic government did not convert they merely changed tactics of 'smoke and screen', which they learned from the 'father of communism', ie., Freemasonry. It was only a diabolical deception and pulled off well enough if even fooled some of the elect. There are many good practicing Christian's in Russia, but its government is still diabolic. They will one day lead the Christian revival within the true faith, but it has not happened yet.

 

I share your cynicism, Padraig, and I understand completely how Praetorian feels because I have my own doubts from time to time. At the same time there's no denying that Christianity in Russia is growing stronger as it weakens in "post-Christian" countries. Maybe I'm clutching at straws by believing that the consecration was acceptable to Heaven. I'm of the view that it took so long that perhaps God is teaching us a lesson about trust before we get the complete fulfilment of the Fatima promises. The Church took the roundabout route - years before any Pope took Our Lady's request seriously and that only after an assassination attempt. Then there's our own tardiness about saying the Rosary . How often is the rosary said in Catholic homes or even Catholic Churches? Can you imagine the likes of Nuns on the Bus or Catholics for Choice promoting the family Rosary? When are the First Saturday devotions ever mentioned at Sunday Mass?

Heaven waited, now it's our turn to have some patience. It took a Muslim gunman to jolt Pope John Paul ll into action. Perhaps it will take something similar to jolt Catholics everywhere to get down on their knees and pray the Rosary. When it gets to that stage there'll be no mistaking that only Heaven can help us and God will keep His promise. Russia will be Catholic, there will be no mistaking it was through Divine intervention, and we will have our period of peace if we all - not just the Pope - do as we were asked.

 

Padraig even King David turned away from his own wife, and yet he was the chosen one. God forgave him and he followed Gods plan for Israel. Ironically today Israel's abortion laws are the most liberal laws in the world. Putin is no saint, but Netanyahu is not one either. The difference is we are guilty of subsidizing Israels abortions and their nuclear weapons. Who can we trust?

 

As long as we are talking about abortion here is an interesting thing I discovered quite by accident. I was looking up maps of Europe and they had a map of abortion rates. Here are some points of note. Poland and Portugal have almost no abortions. The area with the highest abortion level is guess where? Eastern Ukraine! An area which has been war ravaged for the past few years. Interestingly in an interview with Fr. Malachi Martin about the coming Chastisement, he once let slip that it will begin with a problem between Moscow and Kiev (Ukraine's capitol). I circled the Eastern Ukraine in case anyone isn't good at Geography
