I feel so bad for her. I know her suffering. May she rest in peace. QUOTE="HeavenlyHosts, post: 438993, member: 5309"]My late mother suffered from PMR and she was full blooded Romanian. She had it in her 70s. Rip Mom.
There are some people who have the "cure" for shingles. These type of souls usually are a 7th son/daughter of a 7th son. I was referred to one when I had the shingles. I considered going and rang them looking for directions. Their house was at the end of a lane with shingles on the walls...
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and have had shingles 4 times, starting in my late 40s. They came on after each joint surgery. I went to the doctor right away with the first bought and was told I could not get the vaccine once I had them, but I was given an antiviral med which worked very well. The symptom's, although uncomfortable, were not unbearable. I was able to work. The meds take about 7 days to really start working and the shingles can last for weeks. Mine started as muscle spasms in my side/back. Then a slight to moderate burning sensation so the next day I had my mother in law look at my back who saw a line of blisters like poison ivy. I then went to urgent care and was given the meds. So anyway, as I said I got them four times over the years after a surgery, and by the last few times I didn't bother to get the meds, as the symptoms, although uncomfortable, were not unbearable and an over the counter anti inflammatory helped a lot. My horse farrier had them for three weeks and he was working. Was uncomfortable to pick up horses hooves for him. Some people get them in strange places like the eyes and that would be I would think a medical emergency, but for most is a nerve in the back along one side.
Thank you for your kind words, Katfalls. We must pray for you to be healed of this affliction.
A shingles outbreak seems to be different in every one who is unfortunate enough to get them. I had shingles about 10 years ago at the base of my spine, they were very painful and went on for weeks. In my case the treatment was actually worse than the shingles. I had a severe allergic reaction to the anti-viral and ended up in the hospital. None of the ointments I was prescribed did any good. If you can believe it the only thing that made the rash bearable was applying a thick layer of maximum strength Desitin, (the famous diaper rash ointment), it was definitely a lifesaver. I am offered the shingles vaccine at every annual physical, but I always decline. No more vaccines for me either.
Mine was on my neck. I had been sick for a while leading up to it, probably with Covid, so my immune system was very low. I'd also been very stressed and worried with all of my children very sick. I got the rash and burning sensation, and a strange pain radiating out from it through my shoulder, front and back. Also it seemed that every single gland in my neck on that side was swollen--glands I hadn't even known existed before! But like I said, it was bearable. Lasted about 3 weeks I think.
