    I pray them, as well.

Fr Calloway said God gave them to JPII as a "light saber" ( mysteries of light) to add a weapon to the arsenal.

My wife and I follow your example, Michael, as well as praying the Luminus mysteries on Thursday. Of course there are more prayers we pray than those; the most powerful and fruitful of all is Holy Mass!

The Luminous mysteries are a bridge between the events of the Lord and the Blessed Mother in the Joyful and the Sorrowful mysteries.

I like praying the Luminous Mysteries on a Thursday. At first I found them quite difficult because I learnt the Traditional ways as a child and found it quite difficult starting out . However I kept at it and now love them and am very comfortable and happy to do so.. I mean what's not to like , for instance, about meditating on the Eucharist or the Transfiguration?

Its a bit like drinking whiskey, it's an acquired taste. :):) You have to give it time.

As far as I recall Pope St John Paul placed these Luminous Mysteries in after a series of Apparitions of the Blessed Virgin,. But no one ever talks about this, it was not even mentioned by the then Holy Father at the time. I must have a look and see if I can find this, I think Our Lady appeared to a priest:

Yes I do think there will be a final five mysteries added after the three Final Marian Dogmas are added. Our Lady as Advocate, Mediatrix and Co Redemptrix, so these three Mysteries plus..I am guessing Mother of God and Immaculate Conception.

The Last Five Marian Mysteries. All the other Mysteries point towards these as a kind of Final Crown.

The Rosary I think is not just about the individual Mysteries, I think. It is like the physical Rosary itself, ties together by links of Gold. Each Mystery is linked together, they have a reason for being there that links them altogether. They head of in a very definite direction. The direction is , it is a heavenly conversation about the role Mary had in the plan for Our Redemption. It is God talking to us, if you like about the Mother of God.

One thing I learnt in recent years by praying them is that they are all of them interchangeable, so the Joyful Mysteries, for instance have an edge of Sorrow, of Glory and of Light.

The Luminous Mysteries have an edge of Joy, of Glory and of Sorrow and so on. They all go together like cheese and wine. They are all of them interlinked. Try is and see, next time you pray the Joyful Mysteries regard the sorrowful edge, the Glorious Edge, the Luminous edge. They are like a jig saw puzzle that comes together.

Agree! I have noticed this as well. Sometimes I pair them up. The joyful and luminous together. They compliment each other.

I say the Luminous mysteries on Thursdays. The traditional 15 decade rosary was meant to be a lay person’s psalter, there being 150 psalms which correspond to the number of Aves. However I always felt it was a big jump to go from finding Jesus in the Temple to the Agony in the Garden. As long as we say the rosary!

I’ve dug out my 7 Sorrows rosary too. A friend convinced me that the times are so stark that we need to ramp up the rosaries. I made this friend a knotted cord 7 Sorrows rosary as she has to wait for her real one to come, probably from Croatia as a previous person here noted. The best value ones are on Etsy from this outlet.

Incidentally Immaculee Ilibagiza, the Rwandan massacre survivor, has a lovely Seven Sorrows rosary on her webpage. She claims the meditations were given by Our Lady to the visionary Marie Claire who perished in the massacre.

I absolutely love Padraig’s comments about the bittersweet nature of the rosary meditations. The Visitation is the one I personally find the most joyful as Jesus isn’t yet born so no one can try to harm him and Mary and Elizabeth have a time of grace together. After the Nativity the killing starts…

Though meditating on Christ's sufferings is of utmost benefit and importance, the first two Joyful Mysteries mean the world to me:

The Annunciation: Luke 1:28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. (DRA)

The Visitation: Luke 1:42 And she [Elizabeth] cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. (DRA)

In addition, when Elizabeth asks, "Who am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me", she states two truths:

    1) Mary is mother of Jesus who is Lord of all, and (2) Mary is Queen Mother. Number (2) refers back to v.32 concerning the re-establishment of the Davidic Kingdom: the line of David and the consequent office of Queen Mother; for where the King was, so too the Queen Mother!

32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever.

    The rosary is profound.

A prayer that came from heaven -

The joyful, sorrowful and glorious mysteries reflect our earthly pilgrimage since we too have joyful and sorrowful times here on earth in anticipation of a glorious heavenly reward.

Mario’s right, the first two joyful mysteries are the least bitter. The Presentation and the Temple scene are both among the 7 sorrows of Our Lady.

I too love meditating on the Transfiguration and the Eucharist. I have never had a problem with the addition of the fourth because I too thought of John Paul as a mystic, and I don't think those important parts of Christ's life should be left out, but the Rosary is a beautiful prayer no matter how much or little of it we do.

Beautiful Clare. I love that mystery too. The Blessed Mother's beautiful Magnificat. Sometimes I just stop in my meditation and stay with " His mercy is upon those who fear Him in every generation". I love too St Elizabeth's words " who am I that the Mother of my Lord should come to me?"

Here's a wonderful talk by these two Hermits on meditating on the Rosary.

Don't forget that today is a First Saturday, so it would be good, in addition to praying the Rosary, to keep Our Lady company by meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary - with the intention of offering reparation to her Immaculate Heart for the blasphemies and offenses commited against her. I.e.,

    1. Blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception

    2. Against her perpetual virginity

    3. Against the divine and spiritual maternity of Mary

    4. Blasphemies involving the rejection and dishonouring of her images

    5. The neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother.

I am having a most unusual experience in recent months - consciously saying the rosary in my mind through the spirit during part of the night - yet my body is asleep.

I know this for the time goes really quickly for I am asleep.

If I was awake praying rosary the time would go slowly.

Yet I awaken having prayed some of the decades of the rosary whilst having slept.
