Adoration is not a Waste of Time Love me, then, and trust in My love for you. Ask the Holy Spirit to inflame you with the same fire of love that burns in My Sacred Heart and in the hearts of all My saints. It is in the prayer of adoration that this love grows strong, becoming a fire that gives light and warmth to all who approach it, burning in the hearts of My loved ones. A Benedictine Monk. In Sinu Jesu: When Heart Speaks to Heart --The Journal of a Priest at Prayer (p. 232). Angelico Press. Kindle Edition. People will often balk at spending ‘too’ much time in adoration, as if it were a waste of time. Adoration is the using of our energy to reach out to God, or to reach inward; how one looks at it does not matter. What matters is the willingness to spend time with the Infinite. To open up one’s heart in worship before the eternal mystery we call God, is our responding to the actual grace/invitation of our Father. God’s heart is always open, even when we are closed off, fearful, angry, or whatever pulls us into dark isolation from God, others, and yes, even ourselves. Alienation f rom self is very real. So common that it can be overlooked. The incarnation of Jesus Christ, which is the revelation of the Father's love, does not take away from the ‘otherness’ of God. Yet, it shows us that ‘otherness’ is not an obstacle to intimacy with God. In adoration, we over time, come to understand that. Even if we do not have the language to express it well. The Sacred Heart points to the nature of God as revealed to us in Jesus Christ. The heart of Jesus was fleshy, open, not afraid of pain, and did not allow evil to win by becoming overwhelmed with the desire to strike back. The more we spend time with the Lord, allowing grace to do its work, the more we grow into Christ Jesus Himself. Those who die in Christ put on the Mind-Of-Christ, which is a process of growth into a complete union of our wills with the will of God. So the Saints do not simply dwell apart from us. Having the Mind and Heart of Christ Jesus they play an active role in our lives. Just as we do in our prayer life. We draw all of mankind into our hearts when we seek to put on the Mind and Heart of Christ Jesus. So adoration is not a waste of time, but a time to allow the Holy Spirt to inflame our hearts until we can honestly say with St. Paul: “It is not I who live, but Christ Jesus who lives in me”.-Br.MD
What matters is the willingness to spend time with the Infinite. To be alone before His Holiness in the throne of the Monstrance, is to be alone before the stillness of His Humility; yet it is able to draw out a hymn of praise in the quiet of one's heart!
Outside of the Mass, I think Adoration is one if the greatest gifts God gives to us. Yes, it’s an opportunity to praise and adore, but as it always is, the recipient of this grace is me. Moments of Heaven to before Jesus to pour out my heart to Him
Keeping track of noise in the world can become like living in an echo chamber; Adoration is the opposite. Stillness in His Presence creates in the heart an attentiveness to the needs of others so that the charity within can be shared with the forsaken without.
So true! I often find myself silently saying to Jesus when I’m in front of Him at Adoration - Lord, Time and Distance are stopped here.. the Veil is pulled back and so I mentally place all my children and deceased relatives literally on the altar right at His Heart… I mentally picture the Cross and Calvary. All I can silently utter is Mercy - save them Lord and send a lightning bolt of your Love into their hearts. I know it will happen….but when the Lord says it’s time.
I have been praying for your son. Thanks for the refresher request. Pray the Fr Dolindo Surrender Novena. Rinse and repeat.
My Mother taught me that Jesus will remember at our death, exactly how much time we have spent before Him. That He should never be alone when exposed in the Blessed Sacrament. He will not forget our time before Him. Prayers for your son and all our children.
Dearest Rory I understand. God seems to give some special souls, impossible crosses. What should they do? The answer.... Love Jesus even more and become earnest in prayer This is the answer! Jesus tells us that we are to become more earnest in prayer, when circumstances become grave. Therefore His love is the only answer. Do not worry; God will lead you in this love which is His love! God bless you always. I try to remain a warrior for the MoG forum with my daily prayer, even though I have not commented on the forum for a few months . Thank you all for you prayers and blessings. Carolyn
Thank you! I have recently thought of many other MOG members who like Carolyn have been quieter recently. I hope and pray they are all well. I will not list names in case I miss someone but your all missed but not forgotten.
