I recognise the personal loss of a husband , father, grandfather and great-grandfather to a family on a personal level. However , in all sincerity , I cannot mourn the loss of a member of an institution which is guilty of incalculable crimes against my beloved island and my Catholic Faith
Yep brother my older self would have deleted this thread in an instant but a person before God is a soul, as difficult as it is I will take refuge in St Therese and allow the repose of his soul
An RIP post for someone who has been a player in the world stage for so long didn't seem so very wrong to me. I am not Irish, though, and have no grudge/bad memories against the British Royal Family. (At times, I wish the U.S. had a person in public life like the Queen, who is a responsible adult.) But we are to pray for our enemies as well as our friends, so I will not delete this myself.
I hear were you are coming from and I now you meant no harm.. No one is asking for you to delete the post but from a Northern Irish point of view its kinda like asking Jews to pray for Hitler. Too much pain anger and sorrow my friend. The army that he stood for and gave medals to was responsible for too many atrocities.. Just one clip below of the hurt caused.. .
As a southern Irish person I have no problem with rest in peace for Prince Philip. I have been bitterly dissapointed by our government and our venal weak leaders. Queen Elizabeth isn't responsible for a lot of bad decisions by her government. She has been a figure of stability for the UK.
pitty she and her establishment knighted gave medals and honoured her blood thirsty killing soldiers in my home town.. sorry Mary have you forgotten the black and tans? OK maybe I should ignore this thread but please understand I was born in 69 and knew nothing but hatred from that organisation because I was Catholic my neighbour and friend at the age of 15 was kidnapped and shot in the head and dumped by a river because he was a Catholic so I can not and won't feel pitty or sadness for a regime that caused soo soo much suffering.
Well.. I have both Scottish and English blood, although I married a Basque. But it won’t stop me from saying Prince Phillip in 1988 said, if he were reincarnated, he would want to come back as a virus and depopulate. Nasty individual. May God forgive him.
You know, I think of The Troubles as in the past, not remembering how long the past can stay with people! Maybe add a pray of healing to the RIP.
So true this was my Philip I can still see him holding my hand as he took me to the shops for sweets.. On January 30th, 1973, Philip was on his way home when he was abducted from the street by loyalist paramilitaries. He was taken to the Giant’s Ring, outside Belfast, where they hooded him with his coat, beat him, and then shot him several times. https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/...a-hood-over-his-head-and-killed-him-1.4037704
What an unfortunate comparison you make – for Jews as well as Brits. Little wonder the prospect of real peace in the North seems an impossible dream with “pain and anger” expressed in this way. You may wish to recall the event and the Irish ‘institution’ that bombed Mountbatten to bits on the beloved island of Ireland. But you are correct to point out the “pain, anger and sorrow”. Unfortunately this is passed down from generation to generation by those who are unable to truly find forgivenes in their heart. I don’t expect anyone to forget the atrocities but there are two camps that have suffered, not forgetting the many inncocent lives lost across the sea by being blown to bits. Forgive us our tressspasses as we forive others… and until we do so we shall be like the sibling brother waiting outside the door of his father’s mansion unable to bring himself to the party, such was his bitterness for his brother in Christ.
What unfortunate comparison did the British army cold bloodedly kill innocent catholics in Northern Ireland? Did the British government not apologise for that.. Am I missing something? You see you actually posted the problem yourself by saying that two sides suffered? So what side wins what side do you side with.. I would have just as much of a problem being asked to pray for any terrorist that has been responsible for taking the life of anyone's loved one.. Be careful how or who you judge my friend
I grew up in a family that was very republican and the my father's and mother's families were on opposite side of the civil war. Every time there was an election my parents didn't talk for a week as my father was so angry at my mother for voting for the other side. It has taken 2 generations for that division to be forgotten so I understand how close to the bone the hurt and pain is in Northern Ireland. Saying that there is only one way forward, pray for healing and the grace to forgive.
So sorry Quis. So many of us share such sad stories. The Spanish Civil War divided so many. It was also hell on earth. Hold on to His heart for help to forgive.
No. It’s all there for you to ponder. << Be careful how or who you judge my friend... >> Surely not a threat?
we must remember when Christ wept as he foresaw the destruction of Jerusalem as a consequence of the sins of the people who rejected him as their Savior
You know what that's just an uneducated pathetic reply.. I could hit the ban button but hey ho good luck with that mindset... Pathetic
