Sometimes if I am unable to attend mass I would have the Eucharist brought to me in a personal pix. Is there a certain method of cleaning it afterwards?
Not sure to be honest. I would say if there is nothing discernible of the consecrated host then water poured on to the earth just to cover all bases. Open to correction.
Yes, you are supposed to clean it with water and dry it. Shake it into your hands before cleaning in case there are small crumbs of Our Lord in the pix.
I know in sacristies there is a special sink They use for cleaning sacred vessels. I would be asking a priest (a Good Traditional one) before I just cleaned in my kitchen sink and shook the excess on the ground but - that’s me.
I was quoting from the instructions given to us by the Bishop for Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist.
Yes, Katfalls, a concern for small particles is important. I could be wrong, but I would think particles of the Sacred Host would be more visible with the metallic background of the pix than the palm of the hand. In other words, I assume if you shook it into the hand you would be using your tongue to consume minute particles. What did your Bishop instruct you to do with particles in your hand?
Doesn't the drainpipe from the sacristy sink empty directly into the soil beneath the church rather than being connected to the usual drainage system? Emptying the water onto garden soil sounds like the best a person could manage at home.
I’m not sure. My priest used to request the pix to be returned and then he would prepare them for the next mass. If you wanted a pix you had to request and be put on a list. During Covid I had to bring one to my parents and that’s when he told me his procedure
Yes, consume them. QUOTE="Mario, post: 430894, member: 5"]Yes, Katfalls, a concern for small particles is important. I did an internet search for purifying pyx. Ideally, it would be taken to the sacristry and purified by a priest, deacon or EMHC. Failing that, it seems the correct procedure is to rinse the pyx with water, consume the water and dry the pyx with a purificator.
