A good orthodox book with guidelines for deliverance prayers, available on Amazon, not expensive, Deliverance Prayers for the Laity, by Father Ripperger, I recently realized that laity cannot perform imprecatory prayers, nor can priests who are not exorcists.
Only where they have the authority to do so. Fathers over their family. Parents over their children. For lay people its far better to use "deprecatory" prayer--"Jesus in your Holy Name and in the power of your Precious Blood please bind this spirit and send it to the foot of Your cross..." Imprecatory prayer directly addresses the spirit. We may use this method over ourselves. Example: In the Holy Name of Jesus and in the power of His Precious Blood i bind every spirit around me not of the Holy Spirit...." We just need to know the limits of our authority. Fr Ripperger has several conferences on spiritual warfare on you tube where he explains this. Dan Schneider and Kyle Clement as well.
Thank you for clarifying. Parents only until children reach age 18. However, I do think it is safer to use the deprecatory prayer and let Jesus do it. In my experience, a retaliation from the evil spirits can be worse than the original problem. In Fr. R's book, there are many effective deprecatory prayers for many different situations.
Also, the mutual love and self-giving of husband and wife (the two shall be one) empowers each to bless the other. For them, the principle of blessing doesn't relate directly to headship, but to the marital bond.
I am more inclined these days to leave deliverance etc to those with authority to do so. If there is an evil presence, it is present because of sin, and the heart of God is wounded. We can do a huge amount by making reparation and consoling Jesus rather than getting sidetracked in a battle with inadequate armour.
I've always wondered why anyone but a priest (who represents Christ) would prefer to directly address an evil spirit rather than ask God to drive it away. Would there ever be more benefit to doing it yourself instead of God or Mary or St. Michael doing it?
I have that book. I also do the prayers in A booklet from the Mary Foundation with prayers for America and Canada. It takes about 15 minutes. I wonder if I should just stick to the Rosary and Chaplet of Mercy.
I do deliverance prayers with Msgr Rosetti to heal the blood line. I have always been told not to say the whole St Michael prayer. I stick to the short one.
