    DAY 34 - CONSECRATION DAY

    HOW TO MAKE THE CONSECRATION

At the end of three weeks, we should go to confession and Holy Communion with the intention of giving ourselves to Jesus Christ in the quality of slaves of love, by the hands of Mary. After Communion, we should recite the consecration prayer - we ought to write it, or have it written, and sign it the same day the consecration is made. It would be well that on this day, we should pay some tribute to Jesus Christ and our Blessed Lady, either as a penance for our past unfaithfulness to the vows of Baptism, or as a testimony of dependence on the dominion of Jesus and Mary. This tribute should be one in accordance with your fervour, such as a fast, mortification or alms, or a candle. If but a pin is given in homage, and given with a good heart, it will be enough for Jesus, Who loves only the good will. Once a year at least, and on the same day, we should renew this consecration, observing the same practices during the three weeks. You should aim to do the consecration on a Marian Feast day, like the Immaculate Conception. (A list of feast days is given in the book - too long for me to quote.)

CONSECRATION OF OURSELVES TO JESUS CHIRST, THE INCARNATE WISDOM BY THE HANDS OF MARY

O Eternal and Incarnate Wisdom! O sweetest and most Adorable Jesus! True God and True Man, only Son of the Eternal Father, and of Mary always Virgin! I adore Thee profoundly in the bosom and splendours of Thy Father during eternity; and I adore Thee also in the Virginal bosom of Mary, Thy most worthy Mother, in the time of Thine Incarnation.

I give Thee thanks for that Thou has annihilated Thyself, in taking the form of a slave, in order to rescue me from the cruel slavery of the devil. I praise and glorify Thee for that Thous hast been pleased to submit Thyself to Mary, Thy holy Mother, in all things, in order to make me Thy faithful slave through her. But, alas! ungrateful and faithless as I have been, I have not kept the promises which I made so solemnly to Thee in my Baptism; I have not fulfilled my obligations; I do not deserve to be called Thy son, nor yet Thy slave; and as there is nothing in me which does not merit Thine anger and Thy repulse, I dare no more come by myself before Thy Most Holy and August Majesty. It is on this account that I have recourse to the intercession of thy most holy Mother, whom Thou has given me for a mediatrix with Thee. It is by her means that I hoe to obtain of Thee contrition, and the pardon of my sins, the acquisition and the preservation of wisdom. I saute thee, then, O immaculate Mary, living tabernacle of the Divinity, where the Eternal Wisdom willed to be hidden, and to be adored by Angels and by men. I hail thee, O Queen of heaven and earth, to whose empire every thing is subject which is under God.

I salute thee, O sure refuge of sinners, whose mercy fails to no one. Hear the desires which I have of the Divine Wisdom; and for that end receive the vows and offerings which my lowness presents to thee. I, N., a faithless sinner, - I renew and ratify today in thy hands the vows of my Baptism; I renounce for ever Satan, his pomps and works; and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom, to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life, and to be more faithful to Him and I have ever been before.

In the presence of all the heavenly court I choose thee this day for my Mother and Mistress. I deliver and consecrate to thee, as thy slave, my body and soul, my goods, both interior and exterior, and even the value of all my good actions, past, present, and future; leaving to you the entire and full right of disposing of me, and all that belongs to me, without exception, according to thy good pleasure, to the greatest glory of God, in time and in eternity.

Receive, O benignant Virgin, this little offering of my slaver, in the honour of, and in union with, that subjection which the Eternal Wisdom deigned to have to thy Maternity, in homage to the power which both of you have over this little worm and miserable sinner, and in thanksgiving for the privileges with which the Holy Trinity hath favoured thee. I protest that I wish henceforth, as thy true slave, to seek thy honour and to obey thee in all things.

O admirable Mother, present me to thy dear Son as His eternal slave, so that as He hath redeemed me by thee, by thee He may receive me. O Mother of mercy, get me the grace to obtain the true Wisdom of God; and for that end put me in the number of those whom thou lovest, whom thou teachest, whom thou conductest, and whom thou nourishest and protectest, as thy children and thy slaves.

O faithful Virgin, make me in all thing so perfect a disciple, imitator, and slave of the Incarnate Wisdom, Jesus Christ thy Son, that I may attain, by thy intercession, and by thy example, to the fulness of His age on earth, and of His glory in the heavens. Amen.

Thank you...I'm thinking now is a great time to start a Consecration effort, especially 1 month into this awful Stay-at-Home directive and no public Masses in Michigan. Umm, I'm awful with completing Novenas. Typically I complete about half to 3/4 of them. If I miss a day or more, is it best to start over? I know little to nothing about this. I have always given my daily efforts to Christ through the Blessed Mother. As much as the St Louis de Montfort is know to be excellent, it is many days long. I don't want to set myself up for a challenge to complete. Is the purpose of signing the written Consecration to serve as a happy reminder throughout the year?

If but a pin is given in homage, and given with a good heart, it will be enough for Jesus, Who loves only the good will.
What do you mean by pin?

I moved back with my Dad March 21. My last Confession was the 26th. My last Mass was a Monday, the 16th I think. At that time our Priest told us that was the last daily Mass until further notice. He had just heard of the decision immediately prior to Mass. I cried.
Currently the Stay-at-Home Directive for MI has been extended until May 15...as of yesterday. Yet, a few type of businesses are now able to reopen with the usual restrictions.

I'm a relative novice to the Total Consecration. This year was only my third time to do it. This year was also my first time to use St. Louis deMontfort's True Devotion to Mary book. I think it better, therefore, to let other more knowledgeable members answer your questions about missing days or the purpose of signing the written Consecration.

Speaking of my own experience, I missed some days during my first attempt but, thanks to help and encouragement from other forum members, I managed to catch up. I can't remember whether I missed the odd day last year but, thanks to God's grace, the preparation was plain sailing for me this year. Consecration day for me was on the feast of the Annunciation. There were no public Masses in my own parish but I was fortunate to be able to attend Mass, receive Communion and complete the Consecration in another parish. That was their last public Mass and I was just relieved to have been able to complete the Consecration.

I don't know why we are required to sign the written Consecration. Maybe it's to remind us that Consecration isn't a trivial, one and done, matter.

The sentence you quoted about the pin aren't my words but a direct quote from St. Louis deMontford's book. I take it to mean that the measure of our fervour isn't so much what we give or do but that we do it willingly and with a pure heart.

Fisheaters has an excellently laid out step by step guide to doing the Consecration, including all the readings and prayers for each day. Step 5 "After the Consecration" is also included. Here's a link: https://www.fisheaters.com/totalconsecrationmontfort.html

There are other guides to help people prepare for the Consecration which may suit some folk better than the St. Louis deMontford method although nearly all of them seem to use De Montfort's preparation period of 33 days but using different meditations and prayers. Fr. Gaitley's 33 Days to Morning Glory is popular and that's the book I used the first year. There are youtube videos based on that method. I have seen reference to a St. Maximilian Kolbe nine day preparation but I don't think the book is easy to get hold of.

I think that if you miss a day of a novena you can either pray it twice the following day or say the prayers on the 10th day.

I don't pray a lot of nine day novenas and the first preparation for Total Consecration was a struggle for me. The second was easier although it still left me with a "could do better" feeling. This year's preparation was straightforward. Perhaps we get more grace with each renewal? It could be my imagination or the effect of the lockdowns or it could be because I used St. Louis deMontfort's book, but I sense something different about this year's Consecration.

Should you decide to go ahead with the preparation, I hope it all works out for you.

I agree that there was something different. In another thread Fatima said that the doors of the ark were about to close. Mary is our Ark in these days and she is gathering her children in very quickly now. Perhaps that is what you felt--and many of us also. Just an observation.

I have a sense of that as well. Consecration has been on my radar for a couple of years, since I joined this forum. Only now does it feel almost like a natural thing to do. Just making that choice I feel closer to our Mother.

A friend of mine seems very open to ongoing or recent apparitions. No doubt your comment is reflective of that.

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

The word 'pin' means the tiniest insignificant thing you can think of means a big amount to Jesus, especially when it is offered with a loving heart.

I notice you have struggled with keeping on track with Novenas. Don't worry, did you know that if or when we fail, we can offer our failure to Jesus. He even appreciates us remembering to give Him our failures. As long as we keep trying and don't give up. I learned this lesson the hard way. Sigh! By that I mean to have failed countless times, and come across a message years ago that Jesus understands how weak we are, and loves for us to acknowledge our weakness to Him with love and Trust in His goodness and Mercy. Nothing is wasted when it is offered to the Lord. Jesus transforms failures into success in His sight when we humbly Trust in His Mercy, child like trust.

Good timing. You started on 28th April which is the feast of St. Louis deMontfort.

It is very good timing, though I am fading fast for 1st week prayers. Never mind the 12 day prep. I just put the 3 weeks into a printed Word Doc.

I am looking at Fr Michael Gaitley's book. Seems nice and straight forward. While there isn't a Marian Feast day at the end once I receive it, we will hopefully be celebrating a return to Mass. Currently my state expects to reopen May 15 with public Mass scheduled for the 17th. That is HUGE!! That will be my opportunity to receive Palms and turn in my "rice bowl" coins.

Seems very appropriate to me in lue of a feast day. Beginning once I receive it also seems very appropriate ;)

I received the book by Fr Michael Gaitley today. It IS straight forward & simple. Each page or two is a day. Perfect for a first timer! It's also a great resource with explanations on each scapular color & overview of the Rosary.

It was Dolours who informed everyone of the videos.
I merely helped to start another thread with the links only instead of embedded videos, because that thread was taking too long to load with all those videos.
