    Hi Everyone,

In light of some childish behaviour over a while now by some members I have applied a new tool for Admin to use.

This new tool allows admin to ban either temporally or permanently a user from a certain thread, the user will still be able to view the thread but will not be able to reply.

This allows in a way "Time Out" for the user to reflect, It also means that a user is not totally banned from the forum just certain topics, I think this is a fairer system especially when Admin is having a bad day.

In future please respect the decision of being banned from certain threads by Admin.

anyone abusing being banned from certain threads for example creating a new thread just to make a point or have the last say will be banned indefinitely from the forum.

I hope that all makes sense..

    God Bless John.

Just deleted my post because I wanted to reword it! I was rushed - apologies

I get that managing antics from the masses is like being a kindergarden teacher - well said on that front! But still resorting to suspending people without any public warning is dangerous in my mind because it is using the same control tactics of the world.Plus there is the temptation to do it without going public, doing it quietly behind the scenes and with that function in place, all it takes is getting the wrong person as admin and some posts will never make it out there.

How will this prevent people from creating new IDs and coming back in another fashion?

I really do sympathise with the work for admins as I know what it's like, but still this is a way to lose more members I think and bring in others who view the solution to everything is to impose control - which is not the right Spirit!

Maybe I am in the minority in my view, but controling folks this way is not the way to go... How about inviting everyone to pray, fast or join a consecration for the stability of the forum?

Thanks for making this a public announcement.

Ok I think you didnt read or correctly understand my original post..this tool is an improvement on the previous system of knee jerk banning users ...

The user that this may be applied to will be informed privately (y)

:confused: I am admin are you suggesting I am the wrong person for the job:eek::eek: :(:(:(

How will this prevent people from creating new IDs and coming back in another fashion?

This tool is not designed for that problem I have other tools for that

There has to be control in some form otherwise the forum would have died a long time ago.

We do unfortunately some folks out there are hell bent on destroying our home here...

Thanks for making this a public announcement.

    Your welcome (y)

Quis ut Deus is the right man for the job. Let's pray that he be given the gift of wise discernment and that Our Lady of Good Counsel will guard his mind and heart.

    Saint Therese, pray for us!

Thanks for clarifying things. I totally get it that there is a lot of work and aggravation in managing this forum and my comment about the wrong person was obviously not about you, but future admins. Being able to use controlling tools to solve problems or get rid of irritating people is a temptation for the wrong person.

At any rate, this forum belongs to Our Lady's so may She protect it as long as it serves God's Will. Peace.

    Are "kindergarten antics" things like:

    1. the bullying of newer members by more established members in the forum?
    2. non-admins threatening people with bans for expressing their conscience using logic and evidence?
    3. groups of members, who are apparently friends, seeming to gang up on a certain newer members whom that group doesn't agree with?
    4. responding to comments from certain members with nasty one-liners that present no counter-argument, but rather just "signal" a dislike for that member's comment (which acts like a shadow downvote)?

I must say, I wouldn't miss those "kindergarten antics" at all. But human nature being what it is, I've learned to accept that I cannot make the world as it is into the world I would like it to be. Instead, I've learned from St. Paul that I am supposed to "bear wrongs patiently" and from Jesus that I'm supposed to "turn the other cheek." So, even though I've seen some of that bad behavior on this forum, I don't recommend banning anyone. As long as a member is not being personally abusive to another member, why should they be banned? If people don't agree with a member's opinions, why can't those who disagree just ignore that member?

Finally, if there is not an official "banned topics and behaviors" list, may I suggest that one be posted and pinned so that unsuspecting members know (from the admins) what is allowed and not allowed. It is not clear to me exactly which topics and behaviors are officially off limits. Thank you and may Our Lady guide all on this forum to act with charity!

    Wow..
Maybe plank in eye should apply to that post...
Funny how this forum has been moving along just fine with all the fantastic people that have been here for over a decade..strange that isn't it..

Maybe one should question if they have narcissistic tendency..

How dare you come into this forum as a new guest and push your own agenda and then throw your toys out of the pram because people may disagree with you..seriously get a grip..

You know if you really feel that way maybe you really shouldn't be here...

My apologies to the dedicated saintly members of this forum for having to read posts like that..
