Not sure that the Church ever 'officially' add the prayer. I can't seem to find any info on that..

Was it JPII's letter (encyclical? Not sure)and accompanying explanation of the luminous mysteries?

I remember adding that prayer in group recitations of the rosary in the mid-1970's. Not sure if it was official, though.

How unfortunate that he permitted a Buddha to be placed on the altar on one occasion at Assissi

If I pray the Rosary with my grandkids and son I pray the Luminous mysteries, I usually don't pray them because I was taught the old way, and in Fatima the children prayed with the Angel the old way. I am not saying it is wrong to say the Luminous mysteries, the important thing is to pray the Rosary as requested by the Virgin.

If I pray and meditate on the the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious mysteries of the Holy Rosary, a format which goes back almost 800 years, I bring joy to the Immaculate Heart because I am absorbed in prayer pondering her union with her Son.

If I pray the Luminous mysteries, I bring joy to the Immaculate Heart because I am absorbed in prayer pondering highlights of her Son's public ministry.

Either way I please my precious Mom.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for this sinner, now and at the hour of my death. Amen.

    I love you, Dear Lady!

The Holy Rosary given to us by our Blessed Mother was perfect. By altering it, one alters perfection

    Aidan,

If you're saying that Pope John Paul II stepped outside God's Will (perfection) by offering the Luminous Mysteries to the prayer life of the Church, I respectfully disagree.:coffee:

One wonderful encouragement of the modern Catechism of the Catholic Church is it's fourth section on prayer. I would suggest paragraphs 2617-2719 before responding to anything I say.(y)

Luke 1:46 And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord. 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. 48 Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 Because he that is mighty hath done great things to me: and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him. 51 He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seat and hath exalted the humble. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich he hath sent empty away. 54 He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy. 55 As he spoke to our fathers: to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
