Hard to believe he's 90 and going up in that rocket! I suppose this adventure has been on the Captain's bucket list for some time. Space, the final frontier. :D

Hey Padraig, all campers and preppers!
A friend just shared this video of Fr. Mark’s new bean cooker. This thing actually worked great. I though I’d pass it on for anyone interested in the how to’s of the end of times cooking appliances! Lol
( actually Brian could probably make one of these! New project Brian!)

Would it surprise you if I said I made several different diy versions of this kind of rocket stove with the boys, years ago?

Not surprised at all….considering the post you’ve made already. Good skills to have, especially now!

Plus I used to design and build rocket mass heaters. This one was YUGE. I used an old steel wood stove as the core of it, cut it apart and used insulative fire brick, regular firebrick and lots of regular bricks. Fortunately two masons helped on this build. 53B745E5-5508-483A-81D7-8AFD07CD386E.jpeg 1E208CA8-25D7-4649-B243-B78D29AF555F.jpeg DFC4C916-F8D2-4798-B0A9-A3C0F282A99B.jpeg

The kindest, sweetest, most Christian remark I ever read about prepping was from someone who was storing up baby food , although they had no children themselves. They were keeping it for other people's babies, in need..:)

The wisest remark concerning prepping came from someone who noted that not the selfish but the generous, those who reach out to others will get through things.

The World around us is like one big Autumn. In the events around us we can see the leaves falling as all things fall apart.

People continue to think that things will return to High Summer, But that is not how it works. What once was dies so that something better and greater will be reborn. But before the new Spring and rebirth, the cold pangs of Winter.

I'm out of luck, no Tim Horton cups in my neck of the woods, I'd have to settle for Dunkin Donut cups.
Remember the video Father did just before the big lockdown? He was at the market buying cans of tuna, and jars of peanut butter. He surely is a prepper. :)

Oh my gosh..you’re right! Hey, while we’re on the topic, I watched this video on a indoor propane heater called Mr.Buddy. There are two sizes and they use the little green propane cylinders for fuel. ( get a carbon monoxide detector just in case)
This looked like a great indoor heating option if you lost your power( natural gas runs with a electric blower so it won’t work).

I just bought a hot water tank blanket and pipe insulation covers to save on energy. They are predicting that natural gas prices in the US are going to go through the roof…and sadly, I now need a new roof too:eek::cry:

    Here is the video:

Does anyone here know if gas fireplaces will work if you lose electricity? Just now wondering…..
    Probably not the fan….
All you guys seem to know this sort of thing…

I don’t think gas fireplaces will run without electricity. I wanted to get rid of my wood stove and install gas, but decided against it because the gas fireplaces need power. Glad I kept my wood stove.
Edit: I think some gas fireplaces might work without electricity. I did a brief search.

We have a propane fire place that runs without electricity. But our wood stove is "Old Reliable".

A gas fireplace will work without electricity if it has a pilot light or a push button piezoelectric starter. Some of the newer ones do require electricity I think but most of them don’t. George should be able to advise you further. If not I’ll probably be up in the area before snow flies and I’d be happy to check it for you.
