Sorry to nit pick but it was prophesying it would break out in the reign of Pius the XI. And what made it remarkable was this being said im the reign of Benedict XV. Most historians mark WWII starting with the Austrian anchluss in 1938. And that happened after the strange light appeared. It is said that Hitler's cohorts reported that after seeing the strange light Hitler said "Now we can shed blood." But to your original post yes it was Eurocentric but thats what Our Lady said according to Lucia.
I’m still not convinced Sr. Lucia ever said it would be “too” late. Up until this week I had only ever seen reference to Sr. Lucia saying “it would be late.”
According to the direct quote by Lucia of Our Lord's words to her during an apparition subsequent to Our Lady's request in 1927, He said: 'They do not want to heed my request. Like the King of France they will repent and do it, but it will be late. Russia will have already spread he errors throughout the world, provoking wars and persecutions of the Church, the Holy Father will have much to suffer.' (Page 200 'Fatima in Lucia's Own Words')
Ok, that must be the quote, of 1927, with which all of us are familiar. TM is citing Sr. Lucia from a quote from 1936: This latter quote is obviously less well known. Does this mean he’ll do the consecration too late to prevent a global nuclear war - or worse?! I’m still trusting the oft cited 1927 quote.
It is not entirely clear to me but, from my reading of the book, the apparition with Our Lady asking for the consecration took place on 13 June 1929 and Our Lord's complaint in which he is quoted as saying '... but it will be late' was made at an unspecified date AFTER that but is quoted by her in a letter to her bishop dated 1931 so occurred before then.
It's true that in certain ways, the consecration would be too late, because WWII would happen and Russia would spread her errors throughout the world in catastrophic ways for society and the Church. But I'm not sure I would take it to mean too late to prevent a nuclear war. Then again, other prophecies do talk about fire wiping out a great part of humanity. But it's always contingent on conversion...and if the consecration is finally done right, with Russia's conversion being obtained, perhaps that is what will prevent the worst from happening? After all, Mary did say in the end Russia would be converted and her heart would triumph. Surely it would be a bit less triumphant if most of the world were destroyed by nukes?
There is another significant difference in the two quotes from Our Lord's apparition. In the book 'Fatima in Lucia's Own Words', He is quoted as saying 'THEY (plural - including the bishops?) will do it but it will be LATE' (cited as a note by Fr. Goncalves transcribed from Lucia' own record) but in the same priest's letter quoted by Taylor Marshall it says that HE (The Pope) will do it and it will to TOO LATE. Which is contradictory and confusing.

Have your priests join in with their parishes. We’re planning on a Rosary before the Mass Mass at Noon. The Mass will be immediately preceded by a recitation of a consecration by the whole parish. If we had the actual text that would be great. I’ve just now made a request for that for use by all parishes in the world. But there’s no difficulty making one up. I’ll see if I can write one up. I have great confidence for next week's Consecration. The words "TOO LATE" taken to the extreme would imply a successful Consecration will not be done, and we know that is false. It would be stupendous if Francis demands all bishops to do it, but even then, I think some would ignore it . At this stage, I'm putting my trust in the Two Hearts that the Pope calling upon the bishops to comply will be sufficient. After all, the horrific number of deaths caused by Stalin, Hitler, and other despots, combined with the abortion holocaust requires a singular act of the Two Hearts to make way for an Era of Peace. Let us not fret but be confident that next Friday (thanks HH) will push the snowball down the hill and initiate a landslide of grace. This is the time to pray and fast, to gird our loins, and expect the best; not to fret over the details. If we are tempted to prepare ourselves for a letdown, tell the devil to go back to hell where he belongs! Remember the Lord's promise: it will be done! Alleluia!!
