    Definitely!!

(I was trying to remember which MOG forum member lived there.)

When would be the best/ safest month to visit there on a motorcycle? As far as weather is concerned.

It got down into the low teens last night in Black Mountain NC where I stayed. It was 16• when I got up.

After breakfast I got on my Silverwing, started it up, and it wouldn’t move! The throttle was seized up, I couldn’t budge it and didn’t have any idea why.

So I thought for minute - I rode through six hours of pouring rain on Sunday, and it got down into the low teens here last night.

The throttle cable must be froze up!

So I just let it idle and warm up for a minute, and the throttle started moving again freely.

I stopped in Hillvalle VA to meet Steve this afternoon. He has a Facebook group called Maxi Scooters Blue Ridge Parkway and asked to meet me. We had a nice lunch together and a great time chatting! What I thought would be a quick stop turned into three enjoyable hours. We plan on riding at least part of the Blue Ridge Parkway together this spring.

Steve took photos and video and I strung them together here:

I’m spending the night in Christianburg VA just off Interstate 81.

All this trip I’ve avoided towing my trailer with my Silverwing on interstates due to anxiety over interstate speeds and big trucks. All day today I was on interstates, namely 40, 77 and 81. The bike ran great and the trailer caused no problems, even at interstate speeds with passing big rigs.

I’ve ridden 2850 miles this trip, and have 180 miles to go tomorrow to be back home.

The trip has been awesome, the Honda Silverwing performed flawlessly and it was no trouble towing this trailer.

If everything works out (and the world has not fallen apart yet) I do plan to ride up to Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia next August or September.

Any chance I could stop and say hi to any of you on that journey?

Yes of course . We don’t have a mansion but a modest home and you are certainly welcome.

I live full time in a 30 foot travel trailer. I’m in no need of a mansion myself lol!

Home again, home again, jiggity jig!

I arrived home safely at 2:45 this afternoon.

I rode my Honda Silverwing 600, towing an improvised camper trailer, 3015 miles over the course of twelve days, with a five day stay with friends in Florida in between.

    What an adventure!

I can’t wait to do it again!

Next major trip - Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island, Canada, September 2024.

She just realized I’m home when I went out to grab luggage off my bike. You’d think I was gone a month! Very attention starved and very hungry! My friends here fed her but I think she prefers the food I give her.

    Dittos!

One of my fellow bike enthusiasts said to go to the east coast of Canada in August, not September, because it already starts getting cold for riding in September there.

Any thoughts on that? Personally I dislike riding in summer heat and prefer cool autumn weather for riding.

Thanks for shining your light brightly, brother.

You were a light of Truth to many on your journey, the Truth that God has a plan and if we trust Him and let Him lead our steps…all will be well

September is a lovely month - not usually humid and the colors in Oct are beautiful until the 15 th or so. A little cooler in Oct. You are welcome in Aug as well. I thought there was less traffic in Sept as Kids are back in school and the retired come then. .

“Our Lady of The Pines,” promoted on old postcards and signs as the “Smallest Church in 48 States,” was just pointed out to me on the motorcycle forum where I was discussing my trip. It’s only 90 miles from here. Worth a side trip on the Honda.

The smallest church in 48 states

Along Route 219, in Silver Lake, WV, southeast of Kingwood (pop. 2,944), you’ll find “Our Lady of The Pines,” promoted on old postcards and signs as the “Smallest Church in 48 States.” It boasts seating for 12, with six pews. The church is always open. You may have to buy your postcards on the honor system, since it’s not always staffed. The yellow-stone sanctuary, 24 ft. x 12 ft. (16 x 11 on the inside), was built by Lithuanian immigrant Peter Milkint in 1958. (Both Hawaii and Alaska became states in 1959).

Just beside the little church is the smallest post office – 26716. A sign inside the post office reads: “The mail is picked up daily. Window service every Friday the 13th. Parcel post February 29th.”

And down in Crestview Hills, KY there’s a tiny chapel called Monte Casino at Thomas More College. The chapel measures 6 ft. x 9 ft. — the ceiling inside is eight feet high. It was built in 1878 at a nearby monastery by a couple of Benedictine monks, and named in 1922 by Ripley’s Believe It or Not as “Smallest Church in the World.” The monks subsequently left the area, the chapel was abandoned and vandalized, then rescued and moved in 1965 to the college campus. After a restoration, the Monte Casino Chapel was dedicated in 1971.

When all is said and done, however, both these churches fall short of their claims to smallness: both tower over the truly tiny 3.5-by-6-foot Cross Island Chapel in Oneida, NY. It holds three and seats two.
