Good to See: US Bishops say Life should be Pre-Eminent, in the context of voting. But also speak of the necessity of changing hearts and minds:

"Bishop Fernandes noted that it might take time to reach people on the issue, given how long it took for Roe to be overturned.

“I was born in September of 1972, just before Roe v. Wade, so we worked two generations to see a decision overturned, only now to have a setback, but we keep persevering,” he said. “We can’t give up.”

He quoted Pope Francis, who wrote in his 2023 apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The Gospel of Joy) that a “defense of unborn life is closely linked to the defense of each and every other human right,” as “it involves the conviction that a human being is always sacred and inviolable, in any situation and at every stage of development.”

    Bishop Burbidge’s Perspective
Bishop Michael Burbidge of Arlington, Virginia, chairman of the bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, told the Register that in Virginia the bishops “did so much to inform and to inspire our parishioners and citizens and members of our community,” but, unfortunately, “abortion became the topic on the campaign trail and those who supported life were not victorious.”

He called the outcome “disappointing.” But, he added, “We can’t despair because we have the truth; so we know we’re going to win because the truth always wins, but it’s also a wake-up call of: We have more work to do.”

I read a recent article that stated in the USA 94% 0f Abortions occur before 15 weeks. I believe DeSantis' strategy is win a small victory and proceed from there. But what about the 20 States or so that have tighter abortion restrictions? Would the federal law supersede them. If the law was worded that federal law would limit abortions to those after 15weeks unless a particular State has tighter restrictions, then I would be for that, since so many abortions take place in liberal states like California and New York.

    It's a start! Sigh!

Agreed, Mario. I think a good strategy a President DeSantis might follow is a 15 week ban in his first term, and then a 6 week ban in his second. IIRC, he signed a 6 week bill in his second term in Florida after winning by 20 points. SBA has below polling data on 15 weeks from 2 yrs ago.

Polling Demonstrates Strength of Mississippi’s 15-Week Limit Under SCOTUS Review

Washington, D.C.Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) released a national poll of likely voters conducted by OnMessage Inc. that finds a strong majority of voters reject abortion on demand and support limits on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The polling found that likely voters are much more likely to support Republican candidates who back a 15-week limit on abortion versus Democratic candidates who back unlimited abortion.

The polling comes on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court granting review of Mississippi’s 15-week abortion limit in which it will consider the question of whether all “pre-viability” bans on abortion are unconstitutional. The case is Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

    The memo reads in part:

“Among other findings, this survey of 1,200 likely voters showed that there is a strong center-right coalition that supports the Supreme Court allowing significant limits on abortion. In short, a strong majority of voters oppose unrestricted, abortion on demand, throughout pregnancy. Additionally, this study strongly indicates that the pro-life side of the issue enjoys significantly more intensity than the pro-choice side. Politically, the pendulum has swung decisively in our direction.”

    Key poll findings include:

    • 53% of likely voters are more likely to vote for a Republican candidate who supports a 15-week limit on abortion versus just 28% of voters who prefer a Democratic candidate who supports unlimited abortion up until the moment of birth. Independent voters break strongly to the GOP side by a 54% to 18% margin.
    • 55% of likely voters say they are more likely to support a 15-week limit on abortion when they learn that an unborn child has the capacity to feel pain.
    • 43% of likely pro-life voters identified abortion as being very important (10 on a 1-10 importance scale) in deciding their vote for an elected official, while only 29% of pro-choice voters said the same.
SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser commented, saying:

“The majority of voters reject late-term abortion and the Democratic candidates who shamefully advocate for it. At 15 weeks, unborn children can feel pain, and most European countries limit abortions at this point. There is strong support among the American people for our nation’s laws to finally catch up with science and international norms.”

SBA List has launched a $2 million video ad campaign asserting the humanity of unborn children. The :30 spot is currently airing on national cable, including on Lifetime and Bravo networks, as well as select streaming services, and in the Washington, D.C. media market on top news stations.

SBA List is a network of 900,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders. "

Well, statistics give hope at times, but then, voters in Ohio ended up passing a constitutional right to abortion this November! This will be a prime weapon in the arsenal of pro-aborts in the near future. Personally, I smell a rat.

"One of the largest pro-life groups in the United States released a memo outlining why it believes a constitutional amendment enshrining abortion access into the Ohio constitution passed Tuesday night in a state Donald Trump carried by eight points in 2020.

"In Ohio, pro-abortion forces spent a staggering $66.7 million, outspending pro-life forces by a 2:1 margin to fuel a campaign centered on lies and deception to muscle through a constitutional amendment designed to allow unlimited, unregulated abortion," Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said in a memo released Wednesday.

VICTOR JOECKS: Why DeSantis will win Iowa

Amid all of the talk of his impending doom, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had a great month in Iowa. It’s why he’s going to win the Iowa caucus.

That prediction goes against the conventional wisdom. The Real Clear Politics polling average has former President Donald Trump beating DeSantis by almost 50 points. In Iowa, Trump is ahead of DeSantis by almost 30 points.

Plus, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is surging toward second, especially in New Hampshire. She has attracted support from major donors, including an endorsement Tuesday from Americans for Prosperity Action.

But no one had a better past few weeks in Iowa than DeSantis. Start with who left the race. Former Vice President Mike Pence dropped out in October. Sen. Tim Scott suspended his campaign this month. Both of them were polling in the single digits, but they were directly competing with DeSantis for evangelical voters. That’s the most important voting bloc in Iowa. DeSantis now has a better chance of consolidating them.

For almost three decades, Iowa governors haven’t endorsed in the caucus. Current Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds gave DeSantis her full backing in early November. She just won re-election by almost 20 points last year, showing her popularity and political pull. She has been campaigning for him, too. DeSantis would be smart to do 15 town hall events with her before the caucus.

The most influential Iowa endorser is Bob Vander Plaats, president of The Family Leader, a key evangelical organization. Vander Plaats endorsed Mike Huckabee in 2008, Rick Santorum in 2012 and Sen. Ted Cruz in 2016. All went on to win the Iowa caucus, propelled in part by his endorsement and the network of supporters it unlocked. Shortly before Thanksgiving, Vander Plaats endorsed DeSantis.

There has been a major disconnect between Iowa polling and caucus results. Before the 2016 caucus, Trump led Cruz in the last 13 polls of Iowa. Didn’t matter. Cruz won. At this point in 2011 Iowa polling, Santorum was in seventh place with just 3.8 percent. He ended up winning with nearly a quarter of the vote ..."

"DeSantis has near 50K caucus commitments in Iowa. Iowa is projected to have 200K turnout for the caucus, could be even more. If it is more, that favors DeSantis. At the 200K number, and with caucus commitments having a near perfect turnout rate in Iowa as they are fully invested, DeSantis already sits at 25%. The magic number is just below or at 40%, so all DeSantis is tasked to do is take 15% out of 50% of GOP voters who are considering multiple candidates. With DeSantis doing the full Grassley, being endorsed by 150+ faith leaders, offering to move the Department of Agriculture to Iowa for farmers (decentralize the bureaucratic monopoly), being endorsed by Governor Kim Reynolds/Bob Vander Plaats/Steve Deace/multiple law enforcement figures, etc. DeSantis isn't just going to win Iowa. He's going to win convincingly and go on a tear all the way to 47! Good Morning!"

The Day Pro-Life Conservative and extremely competent Governor Ron DeSantis becomes President DeSantis, the Culture Wars of the last 50-60 years are (legally and judicially) over, and end in a Complete Triumph for Pro-Life Conservatism, and a Complete Defeat for the Radical Left.

This is (arguably) a Blessing from the Immaculate Heart of Mary (now that Russia has been consecrated by name) and a sign that the Triumph of Her Immaculate Heart is about to begin. It's all falling into place and abolishing, ending or at least minimizing and restricting abortion is a key part of minimizing the chastisement and proceeding with as minimal tribulation as reasonably possible, into the Promised Triumph of the Immaculate Heart.

"With 36 days to go, we are only growing stronger in the Hawkeye State. The corporate media won’t tell you this, but we have the most state legislative endorsements, the best ground game and organization, and we are the hardest working team. Most importantly, I am the only candidate who has consistently fought the Left and won. That’s how you win in the Hawkeye State — and we’re going to have a big night on January 15."

DeSantis is a good man, who has thought through his positions well. I am praying that he has a decisive win because I believe he can gather around him a good team of advisors for his Presidency. His greatest weakness is his stage presence; he simply is not quick on his feet. For instance, I've never seen a mind in politics as sharp as the one Ramaswamy possesses. However, once a person is in the Office, finesse on the debate floor matters little, only getting the job done. The two of them plus Trump are the leaders of the pack, I believe. The Hawkeye State will be a true litmus test. Prayers!

Agreed, Mario. Just his strength on the Pro-Life issue alone makes him a Great Conservative Choice imo. Anyway, from Dr. Cody Hoefert, cited earlier

"I just got off an Iowa DeSantis call. I want you all to know that I couldn’t be more excited for the next 33 days as we fight to elect
    @RonDeSantis
    President.

I love where we are at in terms of organization. I’ve been a part of every caucus in the last 20 years and this is the best operation I’ve seen. We have:

-Built the best Iowa ground game in history

-Most caucus commitments 33 days out in history
-More Iowa legislative endorsements then any other candidate -County chairs in every county
-Nearly a precinct captain in every precinct
-26 Sheriff endorsers -Over 120 faith leader endorsements
We are peaking at the right time! This my friends is the most formidable ground game in history!
