Televangelism also has strength in Catholicism in Brazil. I highlight at this point the Catholic television networks such as Rede Vida and Rede Século 21, which respectively transmit the novenas of the Divine Eternal Father and the Bloody Hands of Jesus. These devotions greatly strengthen the concept of the domestic church and bring many testimonies of healing that are a life-giving force for faith as an alternative to Pentecostal churches that often attract people who are in search of miraculous cures.

Cardinal Dolan says St. Patrick’s priests ‘acted extraordinarily well’ during ‘transgender funeral’
Cardinal Dolan also referred to ‘Cecilia’ Gentili, the male transgender activist whose funeral was held in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, as ‘a woman’ during a recent podcast.

NEW YORK (LifeSiteNews) — Cardinal Timothy Dolan commended the priests who presided over the sacrilegious “transgender funeral” for a notorious LGBT activist at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, saying that they acted “extraordinarily well.”

“I think our cathedral acted extraordinarily well,” Dolan said in a recent podcast episode of Conversation with Cardinal Dolan.

He praised the priests who held the funeral for celebrating a Liturgy of the Word instead of a Holy Mass with the irreverent crowd present, though the priests permitted numerous blasphemies and sacrileges throughout the scandalous event.

“Again, I applaud our priests, who made a quick decision saying, ‘Uh oh, with behavior like this, we can’t do a Mass, we’ll do the Liturgy of the Word … and then we’ll stop it,’” Dolan stated.

However, at the beginning of the funeral, Fr. Edward Dougherty, who officiated the event, jokingly said, “Except on Easter Sunday, we don’t really have a crowd that is this well turned out.”

In a video from the event, Dougherty can be heard being told by someone that there should only be a funeral service and “no Mass” after the crowd of transgender activists erupted into loud applause and cheers.

Dougherty continuously spoke of the atheist transgender and prostitution activist, known as “Cecilia Gentili” – a man who “identified” as a woman – as “she” and indicated that Gentili was on the way to heaven.

    As LifeSiteNews reported regarding Dougherty:

He also tolerated the innumerable blasphemies and mockeries of the Catholic faith throughout the service, during which the Mother of God was mocked (replacing the words “Ave Maria” with the chant “Ave Cecilia,” as if Gentili was a saint and comparable to Our Lady). With the priest sitting nearby, one homosexual couple exchanged a kiss on the altar. When the “husband” of Gentili called the deceased an “angel,” Dougherty clapped his hands in approval. Another speaker called Gentili “our saint” who worked so that “sex workers are free.”

At certain points during the service, Dougherty could be heard laughing at the pranks of the audience. On the high altar of St. Patrick’s, “transgenders” were hugging and kissing during the remembrance speeches. One friend proclaimed Gentili as “this whore, this great whore” and “Saint Cecilia” to a huge outburst of applause. The crowd and organizers of the funeral event turned it into a political rally complete with cheers, catcalls, and intentions for “gender-affirming health care.” This blasphemous chant filled the entire cathedral as Gentili’s coffin was carried down the aisle, accompanied by Dougherty, who had stated at the end: “Let us take leave of our sister Cecilia.” He added, “One day we shall joyfully greet her again.”

“Forgiveness does not mean submission to evil” — Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) bishops in their Message on War and Just Peace

We may forgive personal insults, but we have no right to remain silent when we see violence committed against other people. This was stated by the bishops of the UGCC in the Message of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC in Ukraine on war and just peace in the context of new ideologies: “Save the victim from the hand of the oppressor.”

In the Message on War and Just Peace, the bishops emphasized the importance of adequately interpreting Jesus’ words about loving one’s enemies: “Forgiveness does not mean tacit approval of the offender’s actions and submission to evil, but rather their overcoming by the power of Christ. It only shows that a Christian entrusts God with restoring justice…”

When analyzing the matter of violence and non-violent resistance, the UGCC bishops stressed that war is a brutal violation of God’s commandments. In contrast, their observance is a prerequisite for a just society.

“Is it possible for the human community to let the genocide of Ukrainians, which was organized by the Russian army in Bucha, Borodyanka, Irpin, Mariupol, and many other occupied territories of Ukraine, go unpunished and unchallenged? Who will stand up for the victims and their families?” the bishops ask rhetorically.

“Today’s cry of Ukrainians to the international community for the renewal of justice has the full support of the Church, as it has always made and continues to choose defense of the offended,” the message reads.

At the end of the Message, the hierarchs of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC in Ukraine emphasized that the Lord desires His disciples to be the same as at the very beginning of Christianity — courageous in their loyalty to the truth, not to disregard terrible injustice.

“The life of Jesus — His teachings and deeds are an example and a gracious beacon for us on a way of being true people created in the image and likeness of God and carrying the peacemaking power of the Holy Spirit. They testify to His wise and just rule in the world.”

LGBT Activists to Demand Public Apology from St. Patrick’s Cathedral

CV NEWS FEED // The organization Gays & Lesbians Living in a Transgender Society (GLITS) on Tuesday announced that it would hold a press conference Wednesday “to request an explanation from St. Patrick’s Cathedral” for what they described as “cutting short the funeral mass service of Cecilia Gentili.”

In a press release sent via email, GLITS stated that its press conference would be held at noon on Wednesday, February 21, at City Hall Park. The organization said it will demand “a public apology” for the “painfully dismissive and exclusionary language” the Cathedral used in a statement after the scandalous incident.

    As CatholicVote previously reported:

On Thursday, February 15, a crowd of LGBTQ activists held a funeral for Cecilia Gentili at the historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, New York. Gentili was “a transgender activist and actress, former sex worker and self-professed atheist,” according to the New York Times. Gentili passed away on February 6 at age 52.

The mob … eulogized [Gentili] as: “This whore. This great whore. St. Cecilia, Mother of all Whores!”

During the service, participants, many of them wearing extravagant drag, repeatedly interrupted the priest and broke into loud chants. One reveler took to the podium to pray for “access” to “gender-affirming healthcare” – a cause the Catholic Church opposes.

The founder of GLITS, Ceyenne Doroshow, organized the event. In comments to the New York Times, Doroshow admitted to deceiving the cathedral in the runup to the gathering by keeping details about Gentili “under wraps.”

After the event, the Cathedral issued a statement expressing “outrage” at having been deceived. The statement also assured concerned Catholics that a Mass of reparation had been said at the cathedral since the LGBTQ stunt desecrated it.

Wounded yet rediscovering itself: Head of Ukraine Church describes country 2 years on

Sviatoslav Shevchuk, head of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, in exclusive interview with Aleteia, sees his nation rediscovering its Christian heritage.

Ukraine is a wounded nation, but one that is rediscovering itself because of an existential threat, said the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in an interview with Aleteia.

After 10 years of defending its territory against Russia, including two years of a full-scale invasion that has led to the largest humanitarian crisis in Europe since the Second World War, Ukrainians are tired — but determined to survive as an independent state, said His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, who presides over the largest Eastern Catholic Church in communion with Rome.

War, as well, seems to be leading to a deepening of the faith for some.

“Many Ukrainians are rediscovering that we are Christian as a nation, and to believe in God means to have a special vitality which gives us a special resilience in this situation,” he said.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav, who is the major archbishop of Kyiv-Halych, spoke about how Ukrainians have a spiritual treasure in being able to contemplate the life-giving Word of God and receive the sacraments of the Church in the midst of extreme hardship.

In a 45-minute discussion, His Beatitude claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin, who launched the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, does not believe in the existence of a Ukrainian state, a fact that Sviatoslav characterized as delusional. This stance, the patriarch said, is what is blocking the possibility of serious negotiations that would lead to an end of the war.

His Beatitude also spoke of his own “woundedness” and what it means to be a priest and bishop ministering to those who are traumatized by war. He also speculated on the need for forgiveness as part of the healing process that Ukrainians must go through. He detailed his vision of how such forgiveness might come about.

He also revealed that he will be visiting Washington, DC, and New York in early March.

The major archbishop spoke via Zoom from his office in Kyiv on February 15. A recording of the interview can be found here and at the end of this article. Following is a transcript, which has been edited for clarity.

This is indeed a "must watch". Some Western Catholics are being tempted to fall into some kind of schism with Eastern Catholics, not so much for lack of faith or goodness but for lack of knowledge.

    Wow.
As the current news speak terms it--show us the receipts. It would really help if there is actual provable evidence. The poor brainwashed "normies" will not be convinced with just words. There needs to be concrete proof they can't deny. This exposure will cause an existential crisis for many poor souls.

Head of the UGCC in the 106th week of the war: The world has witnessed Russia’s crime not only against Ukraine but also against its people

The world has witnessed the aggressor’s crime not only against Ukraine but also against its people and army. This was stated by the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on the 106th week of the great, bloody, sacrilegious war that the Russian aggressor brought to the Ukrainian land.

The Primate noted that this week will probably go down in the history of military art, the heroic struggle of Ukraine for its freedom under the sign of the Avdiivka tragedy.

“One of the Russian correspondents, a military propagandist, who witnessed commanders brutalizing their soldiers and ordering them en masse into Ukrainian positions, has tragically taken his own life. These ‘meat assaults’ represent an unprecedented disregard for the dignity of soldiers in wartime. The criminal Russian authorities remain silent on this matter, but the world is aware…”

Military experts say that such a number of casualties in just one tactical confrontation would be unacceptable for any other army. Instead, for Russians who want to achieve political goals by military means, the human life of even their own soldiers is worthless.

“But Ukraine stands, Ukraine fights, Ukraine prays! Ukraine is hurt, wounded, but not conquered!” the spiritual leader emphasizes.

This week in the life of our nation and our Church, the Head of the Church noted, was a time of remembrance and prayer: “We remembered the tenth anniversary of the shootings of Ukrainians on the Maidan in Kyiv, the event known in the world as the Revolution of Dignity. Our Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred have set a high moral standard for the government, society, and all those who strive for good and freedom — a standard that generations of Ukrainians will look up to.”

We also remembered ten years of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which began with the occupation of Crimea and Donbas. We remember and pray for our soldiers of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) who defended their homeland almost barehanded, unarmed. We commend the Heroes of the Ilovaisk Cauldron, Donetsk Airport, and those who reached the pinnacle of courage and love for the Motherland and whose ten years of struggle we have commemorated this week.

“The memory of February 24, the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion, resonates in our hearts with extreme pain. Once again, we saw the horrifying footage of the first bombing of Kyiv and its surroundings, the first atrocities committed by Russians against the civilian population of Ukraine, as well as clear images of the first Ukrainian Heroes who gave their lives without hesitation to save their homeland. We remember and prayed fervently,” said the Primate.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav expressed his gratitude to those who joined the worldwide, nationwide prayer standing on February 24, the Day of Prayer and Fasting, for a just peace and victory of Ukraine, responding to the call of the bishops of the UGCC Synod of Bishops.

Vladimir Putin Is No Christian Hero

A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: This misplaced esteem speaks volumes about where the U.S. is as a country right now.

One of the more striking aspects about Tucker Carlson’s recent interview with Vladimir Putin was that so many viewers came away with a favorable impression of the Russian autocrat.

Putin, who in recent days has made fresh threats toward NATO, including allusions to nuclear weapons, may rank among the most despised (and feared) men in the world, but there’s no question he has his admirers, even here in the U.S. This misplaced esteem speaks volumes about where we are as a country right now.

From Putin’s perspective, the sit-down with Carlson, which has garnered more than 200 million views on Carlson’s X (formerly Twitter) platform, was an unqualified success. The timing of the interview, for starters, coincided with fresh questions about President Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline. By comparison, Putin demonstrated impressive command of Russian history, shared insider details about aborted peace talks in Ukraine, and had obviously done his homework on Carlson, mentioning his degree in history and his interest in working for the CIA.

The litany of grievances against NATO that Putin recited also dovetailed conveniently with Donald Trump’s recent barbs about the alliance. And on top of all this, the interview landed just when Washington was locked in a pitched battle over continued U.S. war support for Ukraine, which already totals $75 billion.

In short, for a busy tyrant like Putin, the two hours he spent talking with Carlson was time well spent. The Kremlin (and KGB) couldn’t have asked for more.

This brings us to the matter of Putin’s American fan club.

For some conservatives, Putin merits praise for being one of the few political leaders on the world stage today willing to push back on radical LGBTQ ideology, which often seems like a higher priority for Western leaders these days than democracy or capitalism. And it’s true that over the course of his nearly quarter-century in power (including four years as “prime minister”) he has instituted several pro-life, pro-family policies. These are mostly aimed at reversing Russia’s alarmingly low birthrate, which is in part driven by the fact that Russia continued to have one of the highest abortion rates in the world. Much like what we saw in Carlson’s interview, however, that’s only part of the truth.

While Putin has styled himself as a devout Russian Orthodox believer and a “defender of the faith,” the fuller truth paints a much more disturbing picture of a ruthless leader who has co-opted his church to advance his statist dream of resurrecting “Mother Russia” as an imperial power.

As a former KGB man, he recognized when the Soviet Union collapsed (an event he considers one of the 20th century’s great tragedies) that something unifying had to fill the void created by the demise of atheistic communist ideology. Sadly, the Russian Orthodox Church, which in the Soviet era was at first brutally persecuted and then thoroughly infiltrated, now serves that purpose.

Putin may be a friend to the Russian Orthodox Church while it remains loyal to him, but not to other faiths.

Catholics, Protestants, Muslims and other religious minorities face fines for handing out literature outside their places of worship. They can be more severely punished under vaguely worded laws against terrorism and extremism.

It’s for good reason that the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) cites Russia as one of 17 nations on its current list of recommended “Countries of Particular Concern” “for engaging in systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.”

Regrettably, Russian Orthodox leaders have remained silent in the face of this repression, just as they’ve been about Russia’s relentless dismantling of religious freedom and other human rights in Ukraine.

Indeed, Patriarch Kirill, the first head of the Russian Orthodox Church to be elected after the fall of the Soviet Union, is Putin’s spiritual adviser and one of his most powerful allies. He has hailed Putin as “a miracle from God.” He has also imbued the war in Ukraine with a twisted “metaphysical significance,” framing it as a noble crusade to reclaim sacred territory and safeguard ethnic Russians from the West’s moral degeneracy.

As Metropolitan Archbishop Borys Gudziak, the leader of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the United States, recently observed, not one of the approximately 400 Russian Orthodox Church bishops in Russia has spoken out against the war.

By feeding into the historically pervasive narrative that religion can be manipulated for political ends, Putin stands diametrically opposed to the larger truth, which we espouse as Catholics, that the state exists to serve its people, not the other way around.

So while Vladimir Putin may have come across in the Carlson interview as a shrewd and formidable figure who can proudly boast of Moscow’s cosmopolitan character and beautiful, clean metro, we shouldn’t be deceived into viewing him as some sort of heroic champion of Christian civilization.

He is a dictator in a long line of Russian tyrants. And as the immense suffering in Ukraine demonstrates, he’s willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to achieve his aims, including his own people and their future.

All of this underscores the need for us to continue to pray for our own country and for peace in Ukraine.

    May God bless you!
