Administrative building of the Donetsk Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, in Ukraine, attacked by invading Russian troops in mid-March 2022. The bishop of Donetsk and Mariupol managed to escape and take 9 people with him, having been left without hearing for some time due to the explosions.

On my own blog, I have been listing these cases since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, giving preference to local church communication channels. Many of them refer to Orthodox churches affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate, no wonder so many are exchanging Russian affiliation for the Orthodox Patriarchate of Ukraine and for Eastern Rite Catholics. I am currently reviewing some of the links that have since broken.

I believe that in the overwhelming majority of this cases (almost all) the destruction is carried out by the Russian invading forces, but I think that there are a few cases that may not be or that raise some doubts, but are still also a direct result of the Russian invasion. In any case, I leave the links to the information here so that they can be corrected or challenged.

Generally speaking, these religious communities lived in harmony with the Ukrainian regime, including the Byzantine-rite Catholic Church, which has grown exponentially in Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and is today the largest Catholic community outside the Latin rite. Contrary to what happens in Russia where, not being an official religion of the Putinist regime, Catholics cannot proselytize, being a residual community.

I have read a lot of news on this subject and it is true that there are neo-Nazis involved in this war, on both sides, and on the Russian side there are also Islamist battalions. But I will avoid giving opinions about politics in this thread, my objective here is just to share data and everyone should make their own opinion, but I will try to answer your question.

I see propaganda from both sides. As a Catholic, I trust the opinion of my Catholic brothers in Ukraine and Russia more than any Eastern or Western propaganda agency. And as far as I know, Catholics in this part of the world don't have any problem at all with the Zelensky's regime, but they do with Putin and his regime's official religion. In fact, Ukrainian Catholics they were heavily involved in the coup that led to Ukraine's departure from the Putinist regime and I respect and understand their option.

Oh Dear Basto this is all so....devastating and deplorable.

May God give comfort, patience and healing to all Christians of Ukraine and to all Christians everywhere where degeneration, disaster and war have wrecked havoc.

May our Lady of all nations, pray for them and comfort them in their hour of need. Amen

No, Aviso, as you can imagine. And I don't understand the relevance of your question in this thread, since I'm not talking here about my experience in Ukraine. I'm just sharing links to news mostly published by the local religious communities in Ukraine. If any of these examples are wrongly documented, I would be deeply grateful if you could correct them. I've already had to review some of them myself.
