Very true statement. I agree that there unfortunately has been much acrimony and yes many subtle and not subtle attacks on the Pope here of late. Don't let it disturb your peace. And if it's someone in particular, you can hit the "ignore" button and not subject yourself to it. Peace.

    Hi Mac
1.45 and my back is so sore I can't sleep. Suppose I will have to go to an osteopath.
Thanks for the litany of Loreto. The house in which i spent the first seven years of life was called Loreto.
Meanwhile between prayers and pills I should get through the night.
    cheers

  4. Thank you!
I too offered up alot over all of this so maybe it helped a few holy souls and some good came from it. It has also taught me that I need to better prepare for attacks in the "real world", I'm sure this is only a small taste of what is to come.
Two winters ago we were in Montana and it got down to -35F a few times. The air was so cold all the moisture in it was frozen and floating about like glitter. Horrible and beautiful at the same time. Stay warm!
    God bless,

You know we must be careful what we say and how we judge other people, that what we write or say is done with charity.

Surely if that is true for our brothers and sisters around us it goes even more so , as Catholic's for our Holy Father the Pope. If I has adopt a certain hostile attitude towards Our Holy Father, or indeed anyone, my conscience would bother me a very great deal indeed. I generally think it is better to adopt an attitude of thinking well of people and supposing them to be well meaning.

But on the forum the attitude sometimes appears to be the very opposite , to think badly of the Pope to suppose the worst in each and every case. no matter what , no matter how often.

The poor old Pope is getting whacked on the head with a baseball bat as soon as the poor man opens his mouth on each and every occasion.

Let's give the Pope beating a rest folks, I'll be watching out for this.

Briank and Mac take note, give it a rest.

Heh. About 20 years ago I lived in Fargo, North Dakota for a couple of years. There was a saying there: "40 below keeps out the riff-raff."

    Stay toasty, my friends!

    Hi PC
That made me smile when I read that you have good friends from the Crow tribe. My nickname is Joe Cro and happens to be my number plate too. I have a bright yellow Suzuki Swift complete with mud flaps, roof rails and tow bar. I am told when the kids see it they tell their mums and dads, "my back is sore, i need to go and see Joe Cro." The kids talk to me like I am one of them and I talk to them on their level. They seem to know instinctivly when fun and joking ends and cheek begins. They very rarely step over that line and all it takes is a look or a tone to pull them back. They tell it how it is and often their responses to diagnostic questions are clearer than adults'. The title of this thread made me think of my younger patients and how they are the Catholic Church of the future. I feel it will be a different Church but will retain the Eternal Truths. I suspect that if people were surprised by Vatican II they ain't seen nothing yet. I have no fear that the foundational Truths of our Faith will be removed or replaced. This generation has a confidence to express themselves as never before. They are far less judgmental than my generation but their radar for bullshit is far more alert too. I find young people to be refreshingly honest and they seem to think in a different way on so many issues like gender equality for instance. It would never occur to the ones I know to think of a woman as anything but equal and in their own way they even retain that special regard for women that we were brought up with. They are far freer in their expression of love. "I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out." I have no children of my own but I am immensely proud of today's children. They are brave wee souls and Pope Francis seems to have a finger on their pulse. In Chinese medicine a diagnosis is often made by reading the pulse. Of course the pulse reflects the condition of the heart and the hearts of our children are in good nick. I see Pope Francis as a wonderful Spiritual Father to them. In his attitudes and actions he is giving them the best possible preparation for a brave new world, one in which they will discover God in a new way, dare I say, a Jesuitical way. St Ignatius emphasised the importance of a relationship with God that is personal to each individual. Such an approach accommodates the needs and thinking of today's children. Many people today quote the Jesuit saying "Give me a child for seven years and they will be mine for life" as if this was a bad thing. What better future could a child have than to belong to God for life. This, I believe, is the life that Pope Francis wants for our chldren, a life that belongs to God and not to the world. These are just a few thoughts running through my old head after mass. Thanks for your tolerance everyone in giving me this place to express them. The children of today know far better than us when to be silent and when to let the 'stones' have their say. They never miss a trick. I am sure those of you who have children have a better, perhaps more realistic perspective than me on this subject. Maybe some of you would like to start a new thread on 'Children, the future." They are in good hands in the hands of Papa Francis.

  14. Haha!
I'm usually "Eli's mom" or in Hardin I was "auntie" -- a common nick-name for "women you know well who are not your mother". It took me a while to figure it out, I thought everyone in town was related to each other, but then a few started calling me auntie too. Then we changed parks and now we live far from town up a mountain in a National Park with no kids at all. It's terrible! I miss them so much. I have been praying that God sends us to a place that is best for our family and where He wants us to be, then I did a fasting "Remember O most gracious Virgin" 9 hr novena (you say the prayer once an hour for nine hours). Within two weeks later my husband was offered a position in Spokane (this may not sound so remarkable but it is a government position and they NEVER work that fast). Spokane wasn't exactly my idea of the "best" place, but hey, it's got kids! We'll feel more normal again.
I like the idea of a children/young adult thread, especially ideas on how to make CCD less abysmal and ways to keep them from drifting away once they graduate.
Our current parish has almost no people in the 18 - 30 age group who attend. Our last parish was like that too. It used to be that they'd leave for a few years then get married and start having kids and come back, but that's not happening anymore.
Well I better go, been busy celebrating my daughter's birthday this weekend ending with a barbeque and now it's late and tomorrow's Monday (probably already Monday there).
    God bless you Joe Cro,

Please take a look at the trajectory of this most recent story Padraig.

Day 1: Catholic apologists for this pope here and in the mainstream Catholic press and some MSM erroneously claim that the pope is offended by the blasphemous Marxist crucifix, recoils in shock and exclaims, "No. That's not right." They further claim the pope rejected this crucifix and returned it to Bolivia. Anyone who reads the story in another light is pilloried and shamed here and elsewhere.

Day 2: Vatican press office claims the pope did not say "No. That's not right," but "I didn't know that". Many continue to believe the original erroneous narrative.

Day 3(?): The pope lays the necklace and pendant with the blasphemous crucifix at the feet of a Bolivian Shrine of Our Lady. Papal apologists claim its a sign of his displeasure and that he gave the larger crucifix back to Bolivia to lodge his displeasure.

    And Today:

Pope says he wasn't offended by 'Communist crucifix'

During a news conference en route home to Rome on Sunday, Francis said he interpreted Morales’ gift through the prism of Espinal’s Marxist bent and viewed it as protest art.

After taking into consideration the time in which he lived, Francis said: “I understand this work. For me it wasn’t an offense.”

Francis added that he brought the crucifix home with him.

So my question: where are the retractions of the original false narrative.

Where are the apologies for leading the Faithful astray in this regard?

Where are the apologies on this forum from those who attacked us when we were correct all along in our gut instincts and intuitions about this episode?

And where is our leadership on this? You Padraig are a member of the Church Militant. You are getting intuitions and you have a strong gut instinct but you are suppressing them because of peer pressure here and to try to keep the peace and so as to not appear "radical" or as a "pope basher" in the eyes of your forum members.

If you desire to silence me for pointing out what you deep down know to be the truth, so be it.

But you have a responsibility in the eyes of God to this little flock, to defend and protect them from the wolves. I hope you live up it.

Serious Catholics can no longer hide behind the skirt tails of "the media did it." At least not if they want to maintain any credibility in the eyes of a world we are called to convert.

The pope himself said he liked the Marxist crucifix and it's coming home with him.

There's no way the MSM made that up out of thin air.

Here you go again Brian. Many don't judge our Holy Father as you do based on nondoctrinal statements he may or may not have said. You judge his intentions on what he may have said and not said and this is sinfull. We get you dislike Pope Francis and think he is a heretic. I notice you don't post anything that lifts the faith up, but only what you feel is bringing it down. I will pray for you cause words dont seem to help.

Serious Catholics can no longer allow the media bias to lead them and others astray. Serious Catholics need to defend Truth and shout from the rooftops the bias of the media and their cooperation with evils agenda to attack our Church. At least if they want to maintain any credibility in the eyes of a world we are called to convert.
