It was composed about the time of the French Revolution. Yes, the setting up of the First Republic. So it sounds revolutionary, and France has not been the same since.

I watched Downfall on the weekend, about the last few weeks of the Third Reich. Very similar sentiments: the Fatherland, ridding of impure blood. Revolutions orchestrated similarly?

The SS Marching song was , 'Erika'. Its lyrics are so innocent about a girl back home. They sang it when they went into Warsaw to fight the Jews in the Warsaw uprising. It is so strange how something so innocent sounding could be used in such a terrible way.

It was sung in the film, 'Schindler's List'.

Pope St John x111 was Papal Nuncio of France just before he was made Pope.

After the Cuban Missile Crisis during which we all nearly blew the Planet up he wrote the Encyclical , 'Pacem in Terris', 'Peace on Earth' in which he said with the dawn of Nuclear Weapons we should no longer have any moral right to have wars.

Of course he was right. Mutual Self Destruction means there are no winners.

'Pacem in Terris', was the only Papal Encyclical ever set to music. People loved it as indeed everyone loved Pope St John XXIII.

    A really lovely old Pope.

I watched that two a few weeks ago. Wasn't it based on Hitler's secretary's memoirs? So grim and diabolical.

In the 2022 election, Macron again defeated Le Pen in the second round on 24 April 2022. He is the first president to win a second term since Jacques Chirac in 2002.

Macron facing political ‘tsunami’ as voters turn to Marine Le Pen

Poll suggests a steady growth in support for hard-Right leader, with president’s own MP warning constituencies are falling ‘like dominoes’

Emmanuel Macron is facing a “tsunami” of hard-Right populism, an ally in his party has warned, as polls revealed a surge in support for Marine Le Pen.

According to a new survey conducted by Ifop-Fiducial for the Journal du Dimanche (JDD) and Sud Radio, 41 per cent of respondents said they want to see Ms Le Pen win the next election in 2027, a rise of seven percentage points from 2021.

Likewise, a similar number of respondents, 42 per cent, said they’ve voted for a candidate from the National Rally (RN) in the past, a figure that also marks a rise of seven percentage points compared to 2021.

The poll surveyed 3,000 respondents and was conducted from June 12 to 15.

“I have the impression of a tsunami advancing,” Jacqueline Macquet, an MP in Mr Macron’s Renaissance party, told the JDD.

Mr Macron’s unpopular pension reform scheme, which raised the age of retirement from 62 to 64, mobilised millions of people to the streets in months-long protests that brought cities across France to a standstill earlier this year. Since the start of his presidency, he has likewise been unable to shake the label of being the “president of the rich”.

They were interviewing an old French pensioner this morning and asked him about the rioting to which he answered,

'If they don't like France why don't they go back home?'

Yes right wing are a hate group for government. The area tourism agency covering my County recently had a course on 'identifying right wing people in the area'. It was for all leaders of in the community.
Of course funding came from government to run it.
It would be great if Le Pen could pull it off. I hope though she has good security.

Precisely. Anyone who is not part of the aborto-pervo-liberal narrative is smeared as 'hard-right'. Donald Trump has been labeled 'Hitler' countless times and the new PM of Italy, a publicly devout and orthodox Catholic denigrated as 'hard-right'.

The irony is that Nazism and Fascism were progeny of the Left. Only Franco, of those thirties dictators, was of the Right and he was only reacting to the murderous violence of the Spanish communists-he and Spain saved more Jewish lives in WWII than any country bar the Vatican and they didn't lift a finger to help Hitler or Mussolini.

Politically disastrous. A modern-day Nero. Nero was, of course, the perverted elite of his own time. France would be better run by a horse.

If they call people who complain about immigration , 'Far Right', if they knew my views they would probably call me, 'Right round the Bend'. :D

Some immigration is fine. A lot of people who come are very pious, devout and hard working. I see them in Church every morning. Love the Sari's.

But certainly a big, 'No', 'No' to Islam for a start and I really am entitled to my opinion, no matter what people say.

That's right. I forgot all about him. I suppose his profile was very low.
