Part of the reason non-Catholic Christians do not come to the Faith, their Bibles are so altered.

    Douay-Rheims
    2 Peter 1:10-11
Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time. For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

    KJV
    2Peter 1:10-11
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I notice on EWTN's , 'The Journey Home' (which has on people who were converted to Catholicism) they say that the biggest single thing that leads to Protestants converting to the Church as is an almost invariable cause of their conversion is reading the Fathers of the Church.

These reading of the Fathers enables Protestants to take a step back from Sola Scriptura and see that the Church is the mother of scripture. Not the reverse.

But one thing I notice about converts talking is that they were all open to the truth, whatever the price. Whatever the price. Not everyone is willing to pay the price.

    BH,

To tell you the truth, if I ever get an NRSV in my hands, it will go in the trash. There are times when their use of inclusive language actually distorts the intent of the text. For instance, in the RSV we have the following translation from the Letter to the Hebrews:

    RSV

2:5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. 6 It has been testified somewhere, "What is man that thou art mindful of him, or the son of man, that thou carest for him? 7 Thou didst make him for a little while lower than the angels, thou hast crowned him with glory and honor, 8 putting everything in subjection under his feet." Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. 9 But we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for every one.

It verse 6, the author quotes from Psalm 8 which refers to the "son of man" being made lower than the angels for awhile. In verse 9, he directly infers that Jesus is this "son of man". When one considers that Jesus called himself, the "Son of Man", on several occasions (see Mark 14:62), the inference in Hebrews reinforces the author's understanding of Jesus' identity. However, the translators of the NRSV completely blur that connection in their overreaching goal of using inclusive language. I am literally horrified:mad: at this distortion. Actually, I could use much more colorful language if you like!:)

    NRSV

2:5 Now God did not subject the coming world, about which we are speaking, to angels. 6 But someone has testified somewhere, "What are human beings that you are mindful of them, or mortals, that you care for them? 7 You have made them for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned them with glory and honor, 8 subjecting all things under their feet." Now in subjecting all things to them, God left nothing outside their control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to them, 9 but we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

May I always steer clear of misusing Scripture for my own petty agendas!
