I love this site. It sparks conversations that probably have not been had since the the birth of The Catholic Church. After reading this thread with much interest I think Anthony and the rest of you guys agree 99.95%. To me, Anthony points out something that I have felt for a long time..... our religion seems to express itself in such a 2-dimensional way, that we all forget how great our God is.

Thank You Praetorian. I've been reading this blog for a couple of years and it has opened my eyes in many ways. I am a Catholic who was brought up in the 80's and 90's. By the grace of God I was raised by great parents who I would consider pre-Vatican II Catholics. I just believe there are many pre-Vatican II and especially post conciliar Catholics that have a simplistic understanding of our religion. For me this is what I was taught: Basically, God was Jesus' dad, and the Holy Spirit was some invisible force controlled by God. This is just too simplistic and "cheapens" our religion. This is my opinion and one of the things I struggle with daily. God bless everyone on this site.

Welcome Kristian. I know and understand where you are coming from. Though my parents were depression era and my parents had nine children and we prayed the rosary and went to Sunday mass there wasn't any why's or reasoning behind it. Just be faithful to God. The Bible was displayed but not read.
As a teenager I craved to know more but it was in my early adulthood that I really began reading and studying my faith. I find that here on the forum I still feel inadequate compared to the knowledge of those here.
I have learned an abundance here but at a beautiful cost, it has helped me to bend my knee deeper and pray more fervently for sanctity of God, the keeping of the faith of our most precious Roman Catholic Church, for our Pope and all our consecrated religious that they remain true.
Most importantly, in knowing and understanding the why's and how's God will expect more from you in sharing the faith. Our heavenly mother, Mary who is our General in this war will ask you to pray more. But, you will be blessed.(y)

Nicely said MC I think many of us grew up in the atmosphere of faith with the nuns and the Baltimore Catechism and a lot of saint stories but a real encounter with Jesus--not so much. As an adult revert that was the great joy for me. Getting back all those simple unexamined truths with the glory of knowing Christ. Really knowing Him as a Person and receiving Him in Holy Communion. And then the Rosary. Not just praying but understanding why. Learning mental prayer. We never stop growing and learning.

Unfortunately, the one thing I believe I have fallen victim to, is a piece of humanism. Look, I cant stand hearing answers from Church leaders like "you just have to have faith" when they are approached with difficult questions. I question why physical manifestations of our Creator do not occur as frequently as they did in the Bible. And then there's this...... We as Catholics/Christians sure do put much faith in what the Old Testament tells us. Whats right/wrong, true/false in those books. As you can see I question many things; yet for some reason something keeps my heart with the Catholic Church. Just my thoughts that make me wonder How Great Our God Must Be.

Kristian, questions are okay, sometimes when questioning I turn to reflection and listening for a whisper. God comes in many ways and times. It could be a matter of waiting and the answer comes when you least expect it. Just let him have the wheel and answers will come. Start small but believe me you will go down roads where you didn't know existed.

    Thanks Mary's Child.
Believe me. There are things we all could discuss that could drive us mad. I've read every book on life after death and Marian Apparitions. Garabandal is the only one to bring me to tears. To me its the most authentic in modern times and something about it touches me spiritually but still I question. God is way more than I think we believe. I'm searching, listening and hoping for a type of devine intervention thats more physical and unmistakably from our Creator. Sometimes I feel he owes us this, and quite frankly hate saying it. Thanks to everyone on this site and Glory BE to The Father Son and The Holy Spirit.

Kristian please know that you are in my prayers, may God bless you with the answers you seek, may his will be done in all things as we do not exist without him. May the heart of Mary guide you to her son in all ways, through Christ our Lord Amen.

Yes Mac I too believe this. Many people are in a state of blindness to the truth of God's ways that they be hit hard by it. I thank God for those of us who see and for those like Kristian who seek to see. Not that it will lessen the blow. Lord have mercy, I pray for the strength.

I appreciate all the advice and prayers you guys have offered for me. Here's a thought. I grew up with a Father who had to fly out on Monday and return on Thursday for his job. My mother was a homemaker and had to take care of 3boys and a girl(my older sister who was/is an angel). Complete opposite for me and my brothers. I was the middle of the three with each only being 2yrs apart in age and we were bad, very bad. My poor mother. By the time we were teenagers her discipline was virtually disappeared. She could no longer control us and would turn to calling my father when he was away at work and have him get each of us on the phone and let us have it. The problem was it was ineffective because we didnt see his anger or disappointment in his eyes; yet when he got home on Thursday we saw it and quite frankly paid dearly for it. First we had to see the anger in his eyes followed by the disappointment that we were making my mom's life miserable. So when I say feel like "God owes it to us" to physically manifest himself, this is what I think of......MY own father and how my behavior and wrong doings were corrected more efficiently with him there.....physically....even if it was for only 3-4 days a week. God Bless You Guys......

    kristian,

The Lord who gives us Himself so tangibly in the Eucharist, will not fail to answer your request! Daily ask for Jesus to reveal Himself more fully. Be ready to say yes to whatever He asks of you. And place your life and all of your concerns in the hands of Our Lady. The Two Hearts never fail!

Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!
