I really try these days not to pay attention to anything the Holy Father says. I find it much , much better for my peace of mind and heart. Which is of course a truly terrible thing for any loyal Catholic to say..and I hope I am loyal. But something the Holy Father said recently and is mentioned on the video caught my attention. He said that either we are all saved together or none of us are saved. Well you know I am not theologian, no would I claim to be. But as an ordinary lay Catholic it does strike me as the most blatant and outright heresy. Where, for instance is this said in Scripture? When and where in the Traditional teachings of the Church has this ever been held? What saint or previous Pontiff or Father of the Church ever held such a view? This really threw me. It seems to me the Holy Father has launched himself into outer space. Who knows where he will end up? IF he wants to be a theological astronaut and make things up as he goes along, fair enough. The problem is that he the Captain of the Star Ship , 'Catholic Church' and he is dragging us into the darkest regions of the Universe where no Pope and no Catholic has ever been before. I can see now why I ignore him and his goings on. I wish I had never heard this latest craziness. Back to happily ignoring him again. Back to happy sleep. I will leave our Star Ship Captain to journey into the darkest outer reaches alone. I wonder what cold and desolate planet he will land on next? I hope I hear nothing at all about it.
Yes, he said that and it's not the Truth. And his statement doesn't make much sense, it's goobly gook, mixing in some Truth with heresy: "May it also be an inspiration to let ourselves be helped. No one saves himself. We are either saved together, or we are not saved. No one demonstrates the way to the other. Only Jesus showed us the way. We help one another to find and follow this way together." https://www.jesuits.org/stories/pope-francis-ignatian-year-message/ And he's said it before as well: “Once more we realized that no one is saved alone; we can only be saved together.” (cf. Fratelli tutti, 32). All of us, the Pope said, peoples, communities, government leaders and international organizations must realise that we are a single human family and that “we can only be saved together through encounter and negotiation, setting aside our conflicts and pursuing reconciliation, moderating the language of politics and propaganda, and developing true paths of peace (cf. Fratelli tutti, 231). https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2020-10/pope-francis-interreligious-meeting-peace-rome.html
Yes Terry, this all comes as a result of our own sins. I have loads to repent about, sadly . I never thought in my wildest dreams things would go so bad so quickly. Astonishing.
I am astonished that he should have said such a thing. But I am horrified that the Cardinals and Bishops of the World let him away with it. What are they thinking? But what can we ordinary lay people do but pray? If I see one of those Jesuits across the street I must ask them about this, just out of curiosity.
Yes. Truth. I am daily more aware of this sad fact. The straws i have added to the camel's load. Jesus have mercy on me a sinner.
The fact that we are daily made more aware of our sinfulness is a great great grace. I think it comes from our devotion to the rosary in large part.
As this already still remains the case in many dioceses despite the promulgation of Sumorum Pontificum, I see that in going back to having to ask permission of the Bishop, Diocesan TLM’s will, no doubt, become more rare. By the Grace of God, maybe this won’t effect the Traditional orders in the Church other than by causing them to grow by leaps and bounds. Pope Francis et al desires this Mass of the Ages to be on the fringe—a complete antithesis of Pope Benedict’s desired goals. So be it. There’s gonna be some spiritual powerhouses on that fringe!
We cannot ignore the elephant in the room any longer. And we cannot glibly shout “Obedience” when faithful souls’ eternity is at stake. We have a duty to be aware of his errors and to warn the faithful not to follow his errors. If we only and always ignore this pope, how can we fulfill that duty?
Everyone in the Mystical Body of Christ is here for a reason and each one has their own talents, personalities, and God-given mission. “We are fearfully and wonderfully made.” Each one is different. There is no one single recipe.
I've asked the same, mostly to myself, regarding secular (political) issues. I see a lot of people online apparently waiting to "vote" problems away in 2024. Real life usually doesn't work that way.
For those who run Catholic forums, that is what I’m specifically referring to. People look to them for guidance. We’re past the point of making pious platitudes about “obedience.” People need guidance when our shepherds are silent in the face of grave error, or worse.
This video with Taylor Marshall was a huge eye opener to me. But expect most others on this topic have moved on from the points that were raised in the video. The first point that I would like to raise is not directly mentioned at all, yet in this whole mess ongoing in the Vatican, it sticks out like a sore thumb. IMHO Has anyone considered who is holding the reins in the Vatican these days. I think it is the generation we call the boomers. Who are the boomers, they are the ones who were part of the sexual revolution in the 1960's. Those who kicked the traditions of family and Faith to the kerb. How many of those running the show were influenced by the madness of the 1960's. I remember when Cardinal Ratzinger was known to be in that very mindset. It was as he matured and saw the damage the new modern theology was doing that he did an about take, and returned to a more traditional approach to the Faith. Yes, I do believe he is solid now, but he was as a young man into the liberal nonsense until he wised up. How many other old fellas are there who have held on to the liberal theology that came along with the 1960's revolution. And indeed how many younger ones buy into it. As far as the Latin Mass is concerned and obedience, I don't think we need to worry about that just now. From what I gather it will be implemented like the frog in the boiling water method. We will just wake up one day and there will not be a Priest available to celebrate the TLM. They will die out if there are no Bishops willing to ordain them, and that is how I see it come about. That is the day I see when the Holy Eternal Sacrifice will cease, and all hell will break loose. Unless the Vatican takes aggressive steps to ban it in the meantime. I honestly think if the Latin Mass ceases, that would be the death of the Mystical Body of Christ, and the Church following Jesus through death to the Glorious Resurrection long promised. It does not look good from a human point of view, but we can only survive by trusting God, like Blessed Mother when she watched Jesus going through His own Agony and death. We would have to endure the pain she must have endured to a far greater extent. There is no point in being angry, we can only hope to be like Saint John, and cling to Jesus and Mary, and never lose hope. We only have to hang on for one lifetime and stay faithful. I don't expect to see this play out in my lifetime. But if it does, I don't want to let anger get in the way of my Faith.
At last! A pope that has replaced 2,000 years of errors with the theology of John Lennon! No more personal accountability. No hell below us. Above us only sky!
Well this might sound goofy, but last evening it occurred to me that the tremendous love of Superhero movies (especially; also of course the ongoing popularity of comic book and graphic novel venues) is an unconscious (or subconscious?) desire in people for Divine intervention and Divine Miracles.
Sorry to burst your bubble Padraid, but sister Lucia of Fatima said something very similar to the effect we will all sink or swim together in the end. If I remember correctly it was in the Father Fuentes interview.
