The working papers for the Synod on Synodality seems to indicate that laity will probably have input into the future direction of the Church. The Church of England is governed by a Synod in which 3 'houses' make decisions by simple majority in each. These bodies are the 'House of Bishops', the 'House of Clergy' and the 'House of Laity' (member of the latter two are elected by clergy and laity respectively as representatives). Only the House of Bishops has the power to legislate on matters of doctrine, ceremonies and sacraments. Measures thereafter require parliamentary and Royal assent though this is a formality. My guess is that this set up approximates to what Francis envisages. In Anglicanism, of course, each country's 'church' is self-governing which means that they are often out of step with each other. If Francis intends to give 'national' churches individual powers then we are in for an Anglican 'free for all'. If not, we shall anyway at the mercy of activists in all three 'houses'. It's going to be interesting!
Wouldn't it be great if somehow something holy and orthodox came out of this synodal process. Maybe the Holy Spirit will arrive and blow the red socks off a few cardinals.
Well, John, the devil usually only harasses when you're doing something he doesn't like! May Therese protect you with her prayers. Be sure to watch your stress level. Praying.
They’re trying to transform the Church into the one world church that popes and mystics warn us about.
I think this post sums up the whole Synodality course the Vatican current administration is implementing with Pope Francis holding the Chair. All we can do is Keep Watch and Pray. And never forget the Ten Commandments, keeping them as true treasures to keep us on the right path.
By accident I came across a two year old video of Dr Taylor Marshall Dr Tim Gordon , discussing the Possession of Anneleise Rose. Anneleise was a German Student who possessed by a number of Demons, back in the 70's. Anyway back then the Demons spoke about things going wrong in the Church and the things they themselves had encouraged and started. They wanted Communion on the hand. They spoke of priests and religious watching TV too much. They laughed at priests who did not believe in hell of the devil. They spoke of the rosary as a very, very powerful weapon indeed. They named Hans Kung and other theologians as their own people. They spoke of the Church in Belgium and the Netherlands as being under their own control. They spoke of most people as on the road to hell. Well is this was true back in the 70's..
I am still reflecting upon Cardinal Dolans 7 non-negotiables for this Synod. The Cardinals last statement is certainly interesting: “I don’t know if I completely understand [Synodality]," Dolan said, adding that "the Holy Father is honest in admitting that neither does he have the full comprehension, which is precisely why he has summoned us to this endeavor.” IF (capitalized on purpose) this synod is truly following the first non negotiable of Dolan that is must be the Holy Spirit in charge, then of course it will be fruitful. My concern is the human intervention of that Spirit. Prayers https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/...7-non-negotiables-for-the-synod-on-synodality
