This anti-LGBT stuff by the Russians is intended to cast itself as a Christian outpost in a nasty world and gain the sympathy of the right wing in the west. This is a country in which abortions occur at twice the rate per head as in the US. Where does that leave us? Both Hitler and Stalin supported/introduced legislation against homosexuality and abortion. Did that make them good guys? Both Kirill and Putin are ex-KGB and their every word should be scanned for the self-interest that invariably underpins it. As for Kirill accepting the independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, he railed against it when it was proposed and withdrew recognition of the Ecumenical Patriarch who approved it. They are both political and religious colonialists who want to run things in as wide a sphere as possible.
