however, regardless of how the children are educated, they will be almost completely good catholics, and all education will be reconcilable with true catholicism, whether from parents or the state

I suppose He could and has protected people from physical harm on occasions, though that is not the really important thing.

I would tend to think of the truth as residing in the heart rather than just the head. We can understand a truth intellectually and yet not be prepared to give assent to it, or even die or suffer for it. But if it resides in the heart we might.

It reminds me of the Scripture:

    James 2:19
19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

So the Devils understand perfectly well, but do not find a place for this in their hearts.

Its' so interesting the relationship between the head and the heart in the Spiritual Life. I sense very often in the Protestant Sects it is the head that comes first. So we have things like long sermons and Scripture studies , food for the mind. I remember one time reading that the so called Reformation may have well have withered on the vine if Bach had not written , 'Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring', which was very much food for the heart. This is maybe why in Protestantism hymns have such a central place, food for the heart, a very partial replacement for the death of Liturgy and the Sacraments.

Oh, there is something divine about Bach's music. Jesus joy of men, or Hail Mary for example.

You can see why they speak of music being a big part of heaven. I could never sing a note down here and I am horrible to listen to, although I love to sing, especially when no poor person is there to hear me. I also can play no instrument, I never got round to it. But my big hope in heaven is that the good Lord will give me a singing voice that will not make folks scream.:)

Also to take guitar lessons for the first 100 years us there. Classical Guitar. It's not hard to guess that there is no music in hell, only screams and cursing..

My son came upon a large protest this past weekend at the city hall in NYC, and he made an interesting observation that ties in with your comment. Watching the protesters, he said he felt as though he had been transported back to ancient Rome, so there you go. It truly is the dark night of the soul.

    'He who sings, prays twice.'

Imagine hearing an angel sing. Imagine hearing a choir of angels sing.

Imagine entering heaven and the whole place singing to welcome you.:):)

Sometimes when I look at the sea, or the mountains, or a tree a flower I think I can distantly hear them singing, praising the Lord.

    Daniel 3:70
Ice and snow, bless the Lord: praise and exalt him above all forever.

When I pray, I like listening to this in the background. I feel like I’m praying in the company of angels .

    First great music analogy:

TUTOR: Oh yeah! So check this out: “As it was in the days of Noah [age one, the Fall and the Flood], so shall it be in the days of the Son of Man [age eight, the Great Apostasy and Second Coming].” Yes! In day one, or age one, the world has fallen and quite quickly become, in Noah’s life, very wicked, sparing the righteous remnant of Noah and his family. Similarly, in day eight, or age eight, the world is likewise nearly totally wicked, the great apostasy, sparing a remnant, a small portion of Gentiles and most of the Jewish People, who will convert to the Gospel at that time. And in the light of day one, or age one, God destroyed the world, with water, and began to redeem it. In day eight, or age eight, God will destroy the world, by fire, and usher in the utterly redeemed world that shall never end, the New Creation.

    2 Pet. 3:

Knowing this first, that in the last days there shall come deceitful scoffers, walking after their own lusts, [4] Saying: Where is his promise or his coming? for since the time that the fathers slept, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. [5] For this they are wilfully ignorant of, that the heavens were before, and the earth out of water, and through water, consisting by the word of God. [6] Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. [7] But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of the ungodly men. [8] But of this one thing be not ignorant, my beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. [9] The Lord delayeth not his promise, as some imagine, but dealeth patiently for your sake, not willing that any should perish, but that all should return to penance. [10] But the day of the Lord shall come as a thief, in which the heavens shall pass away with great violence, and the elements shall be melted with heat, and the earth and the works which are in it, shall be burnt up.

    Profound, huh?

STUDENT: That is like wickedly unfathomable!

TUTOR: It is, isn’t it? I have to say, though, some other completely wicked stuff remains if you are up to it, but this, I think is enough to digest for now.

    STUDENT: I agree!

    TUTOR: Class dismissed!
