    1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish;it does not take offence and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. Love does not come to an end. You are loved very much by God Jimmyiz, He would never leave you so easily. He knows how fickle we all are.

We would cease to exist if God truly left our soul. I understand this. I was just creating an image in reference to the scripture reading. I also understand that God is there even when we commit mortal sin otherwise we would cease to exist. St Teresa of Avila speaks of this very well in that God is with us in three forms of grace. First at the barest level where our existence depends on. Second when we are in a state of grace (not under mortal sin) we have a higher level of grace. Third when we are in union with God in our souls. Her higher levels of the mansion in her book "interior castle". In that level of grace we can achieve an even higher level of grace and favor with God.

Absolutely, every person on this planet has something of God in them. This is why a man is able to commit murder and do the most cruel and evil of deeds yet can still hug his child.

This is God's love, this man being able to hug his child.

The Holy Spirit taking up residence in our souls is a different level. One that comes about through Baptism.
The only way we expel Him is by mortal sin, and it is us that expel Him as we completely turn our back on Him. It is actually quite difficult to commit mortal sin.

It has to be a grave sin
One has to have full knowledge of what they are doing
One has to give full consent.

    God loves us so much.

I think you are taking what I initially said too literally. Also it is the Trinity that takes up residence in our souls during Baptism, not just the Holy Spirit. Maybe you didn't mean that though.

For instance, where Jesus is present, the Father and Holy Spirit are also present, because they are one. Where the Father is present, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are also present simultaneously. Where the Holy Spirit is present, the Father and Jesus are also present in one person (This constant three-in-one presence is called "circumincession".) This means that when we receive the Eucharist at Mass, which is truly the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ, we are also receiving the Father and the Holy Spirit, because they are one. When we are Confirmed and receive the Holy Spirit, we are also receiving the Father and Jesus as well.

This would be the same for Baptism

Yes, I did take you up literally, and yes, The Blessed Trinity does take up residence in our souls. I was talking about the Holy Spirit. I can be quite literal.

  7. This Gospel to me is very powerful go out and proclaim the word of God, the need for repentance is very clear and the hostility that would be encountered with the reference to Sodom it resonates today very much so. I have a friend in the alpha course never misses an opportunity to tell people people about God I admire her greatly for it she would put me to Shame

Jayne. I too admire people who aren't afraid to speak to people about God.
When I see the Jehovah Witness walk around our streets knocking on doors, I have great repect for their diligence. They have much more rudness thrown at them than people being 'nice'.
I don't know if I could do this. :notworthy:

TUESDAY'S GOSPEL They can use either 2 of the Gospels. This mornings mass I went to used Matthew's Gospel.
    Mt 1:16, 18-21, 24a

Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary.
Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ.

Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.
When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph,
    but before they lived together,
she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,
yet unwilling to expose her to shame,
    decided to divorce her quietly.
Such was his intention when, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
    "Joseph, son of David,
do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.
For it is through the Holy Spirit
that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins."
    When Joseph awoke,
he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him
and took his wife into his home.

    or Luke 2 41-51

Each year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover,
and when he was twelve years old,
they went up according to festival custom.
After they had completed its days, as they were returning,
the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem,
but his parents did not know it.
Thinking that he was in the caravan,
    they journeyed for a day
and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances,
    but not finding him,
they returned to Jerusalem to look for him.
After three days they found him in the temple,
sitting in the midst of the teachers,
listening to them and asking them questions,
and all who heard him were astounded
at his understanding and his answers.
    When his parents saw him,
    they were astonished,
and his mother said to him,
"Son, why have you done this to us?
Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety."
    And he said to them,
"Why were you looking for me?
Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?"
But they did not understand what he said to them.
He went down with them and came to Nazareth,
    and was obedient to them.

What a man is St Joseph!
Did you know there is not one word of Joseph's spoken in the Gospel. Quite amazing.
But even the Blessed Virgin doesn't get much of a say.
Maybe it is so not to take the focus away from Jesus. Jesus is our salvation. He is God!
Joseph must have been very kind and thoughtful. He certainly didn't want to shame Mary.
But when the Angel appeared to him, he did as he was asked. To take Mary as his wife.
    Totally obedient to God.

When I read this, I thought of 'Mary's Child' and anyone else who has experienced a missing child at one point in time.
3 days. I can only imagine the 'sickly' feeling. The sleepless nights, the worry.

Why did Jesus do this? He must have known the worry it caused Mary and Joseph.
But He does things for a reason. He is not inconsiderate. He does things for the greater glory.

I like the last sentence. "he was obedient to them."

We too are called to obedience.
Our priests, Bishops and Cardinals are called to obedience to the Church and our Pope.
When we aren't obedient, the church falls apart. Mary has come to us to ask us to pray for our priests, bishops and cardinals.
Jesus is our church. They go hand in hand.

He certainly is a much better man than I. I would have said...You did WHAT with WHO?

I have struggled with this passage. To me it seems that Jesus was being disobedient and inconsiderate. Jesus is our perfect example of course but in this case I just can't see it. I just can't buy into the He does everything for the glory of God in this case. There must be more to it that we don't know. To top it off He seems to sass back even to them. What would you think if it was your child that did this? I know what my Mom would have done to me and timeout in the corner would not have been her response. To me it seems that He has violated the 4th commandment.

Yes. I don't think I know a man that wouldn't have said the same thing.

Maybe what we are forgetting is..
Joseph, being the son of David, would have been a very holy man even before he knew Mary.
He would have known the scriptures very well.
The Holy Bible fore told of the Christ being born. So when the angel appeared to Joseph he would have found it easy to believe and accept.
Joseph put his trust in God completely.

The Bible was the peoples life line back then just as it is for us today. :)

No one can argue with you there.
When my brother and I got home from school 90 minutes late when we were about 8 and 9 years old, we got a good old belting.

But Jesus didn't do anything disobedient. It doesn't say that Mary or Joseph said to him "don't stay behind."

Jesus said "Did you not know I must be in My Father's house?"
Maybe Jesus was letting the world know then, that He is obedient to His Heavenly Father, and He felt the time was right to let Mary and Joseph know.
But Jesus did stay obedient to His parents and did as they wished by going back to Nazareth.

You know, there are just some things I accept.
I may question apparitions, but I accept the Gospel as total truths.
It is the word of The Lord.

Mary knew her Son well and she knew everything that came from Him served as a prepraration. To be without Him for three days foreshadowed the three days she would painfully be without Him when He lay in the tomb. His whole reason for coming into the world was to do the Will of the Father. They knew this and did not take it as disrespect but as an affirmation of His great mission

I am not happy with Jehovah Witnesses! And I tell them so!!! They actually deny the divinity of Christ. I also tell them that when they hear that I am Roman Catholic and love God with my whole heart (as best I can) that they should go away rejoicing and not try to get me to convert to their church!!!!

  19. Yes Mary's child I agree I notice where I live they target Catholic areas which I don't like

They target everyone over here. I wouldn't have a problem if they were truly Christian, but they are not. This is the kind of thing that I think the Bible is referring to when it says, he who denies me, he is the anti-christ.

God is not talking about those who don't have the gift of faith but those who do know and make out they believe in Him whilst denying His divinity at the same time. They think that Jesus is a lesser 'god' to the Father.

Makes my blood boil as they deceive people into thinking that they are Christians when they are not. A woman I know was at a very low ebb, she goes to Church the odd time, but these people came in, made out they cared, then tried to get her to remove the Crucifix that was in her home!!!!

Most definitely not Christian!!! Very deceptive!!!
