Padraig, The article is not about the use of HOLY OIL in Catholicism. It is about the use of alternative healing remedies are often found in New Age/upscale health /occult stores. The particular oil formulation that Luz de Maria recommends, I believe, has traditionally been called "Thieves Oil." It is not original to the alleged message from the Blessed Mother. You can order it online. Health care experts cited in the National Catholic Register article are also concerned people might try remedies give in private revelations without checking with their doctors, or even in place of regular medical care. In the longer version of the article, there is this comment from a Catholic priest who is one of the world's best known bioethicists. No offense, Christy, but your comment and your source/s reflect a complete ignorance of the entirety of these messages given over the years. It also conveniently or just ignorantly ignores all of the source references given within the particular area (only one of many) of natural medicines that actually cover fully the correct uses of the ingredients, often in combination, that make up the many, Good Samaritan Oil being only one of them, preventative and health system enhancers that are currently used by top treatment centers, like Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for one. It's cute to use an alternative name that is imaginative and based on some early history re: the discovered reason for a prevention due to certain ingredients that were accidentally used at the time by happenstance, but apparently had an effect on a deadly spread of disease which at the time had no other remedy. Such major medical treatment centers, btw, don't necessarily call such immune system enhancers "alternative" methods, but know of them as basic building blocks of a healthy biological system which therefore can prevent such contractions of disease. And all of these supplements are over the counter. The most highly trained physicians today are those with the holistic approach, avoiding regular protocols of treating symptoms alone through potent prescription drugs but doing further damage due to bad side effects. Your source article attempts to make such advance treatments sound like voodoo or "magic solutions". That's just ignorance of the facts. I wouldn't go to a "bioethics center" for any real knowledge about this entire field. The fact that the author stoops to using terms like "magic solutions" for proven healthy natural treatments shows their own field is divorced from the actual science involved. It's also ignorance of what is included in the entirety of these messages which, if one actually cared about the possibilities offered, would know include, as I said before, the absolute requirement of deep faith as well as knowledge of the history and science of these naturally available ingredients given by the Creator. We already have now a real interference by govt. agencies in the doctor/patient relationship due to the politization of healthcare.....as they get in between the doctor and the pharmacist, forbidding the most proven preventative for the COVID virus from being normally prescribed as before. Now we have Church publications w/ more attempts to play doctor themselves w/ similar scare tactics about that which they appear to have no real knowledge, and stoop to a generalization of an entire message through terms like "alternative" and "magic solution" which is just ignorant and silly. We have the recent history of a run on necessary items for health just in this one new unexplainable pandemic due to interference in supply and the delivery systems. With the knowledge of the type of planned global control of populations.....by way of possibly forced vaccines and a time where normal delivery of regular pharmaceuticals only obtainable through prescriptions is interrupted, those who wish to avoid being controlled by the evil authorities whose goal is population control/eugenics, will only be able to continue to build up their own prevention to disease through those natural medicines that they have gathered beforehand which can be obtained w/o prescriptions. We are being advised about this future and the lack of normal or ordinary life routines beforehand through these gifts being offered by the Mother of God. All science, known and as yet unknown, within the quantum field, is contained in the mind of the Father. I trust that Our Lady's mission here from the Father is given all of the truth of the gifts of His creation that are themselves operative through great Faith within such times. I apologize for the length of this rebuttal but it so often appears that objections are remiss of the current approaches in advanced medicine and are not backed by any real reading of all that has been seriously offered in the entirety of these messages that of course go back years. The messages are offered here for those who may indeed benefit from them. And the fact that such remedies are not original to these messages but are already in use by those fortunate enough to have kept up on the changes involving natural medicines shows that they are not to engender fear but to help people know what can be of benefit to them in the future by storing up what is beneficial to the immune system et al when the overly prescribed medications of the day are no longer available. I don't "assert". I've offered the facts of medical practice today. You can obviously check out such basic use of natural meds at the top center I mentioned for yourself for their offerings of "Integrative Medicine". Don't have to take my word for it. While Dr. Pacholczyk's degrees are in ethics, philosophy, chemistry and biology, he is NOT an MD. He can advise on ethics but that ethical foundation is already present within the holistic portion of medicine in the treatments by top MDs. The methods offered within these messages are not then something to be summed up as "magic" or other trigger words to get a reaction rather than speak to their proven medical efficacy. In fact that area now is included within the realm of medical ethics because of the now recognized greater danger that certain prescription medications have caused. It's preventative medicine now over and above just treating symptoms. While offering ethical guidelines for doctors which is also necessary I would not choose a philosopher, chemist, or biologist for my medical doctor's expertise and treatment experience w/specific, and complicated patient conditions. We're not cells in some biology lab. As I said these offerings are for preparation for a coming time when the controlled methods of medicine are no longer available w/ its prescriptions....and it's for taking or leaving after looking at its entirety. Alleged revelations from Our Lady to a Costa Rican woman that call for the use of essential oils to prevent infection by the coronavirus have gone viral on the internet. What should Catholics make of revelations such as these? The “seer,” named Luz de Maria de Bonilla, allegedly received a message from Our Lady on June 3, 2016, which gave instructions about the use of an essential oil blend which she called the Oil of the Good Samaritan, to be used as a preventive measure against infectious outbreaks... Even though the Church has rendered no decision as to the supernatural nature of the revelations, the messages have gone viral on the internet, with many Catholics hyping the oils as being a “Church approved” method of protecting themselves against the coronavirus. As convincing as it all may sound, these revelations are raising eyebrows because they appear to contradict Church teaching found in the Ethical and Religious Directives for Healthcare Services. Based upon Pope John Paul II’s encyclical letter On the Value and Inviolability of Human Life (Evangelium Vitae), the Directives state: “A person has a moral obligation to use ordinary or proportionate means of preserving his or her life.” This is particularly true in the case of life-threatening or communicable diseases... My "Doctor of the Church" as well as visionary/mystic/writer/composer of music/whose work is considered to be foundational to the most comprehensive medical care today is considered the founder of scientific natural history in Germany whose science is still used today in German healthcare and science (no slouches there either) as elsewhere, and who was appointed the Doctor of the Church by THE German Pope who knew of her life and writings better than most.....trumps your "philosopher" w/ no such experience of treatments and hands on medical treatment. After finishing the September 13 message, Saint Michael set the terrestrial globe before my eyes. It looked different from how we can see it now via satellite, its colors being different. Saint Michael says to me: Daughter, do you see that the Earth does not have the greenery to which you are accustomed, and that the seas have taken the place of dryland? Astonished, I nodded my head affirmatively. Then he told me: Humanity has not accepted that this disease which is seriously afflicting you is the result of the greed of some scientists and those who rule the world, who have used it to cause evil and take humanity hostage. Keep in mind: "Glory to God in the highest in heaven and on earth peace to men: this is the hour of his grace." (Lk 2:14). The devil rejoices in conflicts among My Son’s children; conflicts of brothers against brothers... The devil rejoices in antagonizing you, he delights in subtly dominating the minds of My children and maintaining their negative thoughts towards those who serve My Son's House. Be aware that nobody knows the day and the hour: the day of the Lord will come when it is least expected, like a thief in the night (cf. Mt 24:44,50). IN MY SON’S NAME I HAVE SENT MY FAITHFUL TO ANNOUNCE TO YOU WHAT IS COMING, and as in the past, they are despised, judged, reviled and slandered with the same venom as in the past. Humanity is struggling at this difficult, very difficult time, given the proximity of the fulfilment of the Revelations for all humanity. Men have turned away from My Son and the righteous few are being contaminated with the devil's malice, making good seem evil and evil seem good, their condemnatory judgments being false and guided by Satan. Peace is essential at this time so that you would not harm one another; those who remain united protect each other, they turn away from worldliness and sin, turning to life in the Holy Spirit. Immersed in their foolishness, human beings are closing the doors to the warnings of the Divine Will; they are not preparing, they carry on living as if nothing were happening... Nature is giving signals to man so that he would see that everything has changed, yet humanity continues as if nothing were happening, groping in the dark, stumbling again and again, crawling like snakes. This is why you have to go from crawling to being able to scale the heights, so that after this metamorphosis you might be worthy of being part of My Son's People, but you need to change NOW! Those who live in goodness practice good towards their brothers and sisters; those who live in evil see evil in everything, judging and hurting their brothers and sisters. Those who have strayed should return, uniting in the Divine Will. You need to nourish yourselves with the Body and Blood of My Son, being duly prepared, in order to scale the spiritual heights, being creatures of good, having repented of all the evil that you have committed and being prepared to do good. What pain this generation will experience!... What grief and how many unremitting attacks!... What bitterness you will find everywhere!... The earth will shake as never before, volcanoes will blaze, the waters will purify man, winds will appear unannounced, My children’s thinking, distorted by evil, will turn against their brothers and sisters because of a lack of Love and Faith in the things of My Son. I say all this so that you would convert before you become totally lost. Pray, My children, pray: the storm will emerge from My Son’s Church and will sweep away many people who lack Faith. Pray, My children, pray the Holy Rosary and instruct yourselves so that you would not fall into the clutches of evil; grow in spirit, be more spiritual, being creatures of good. Those of My children who have joined forces with evil and who have been overwhelmed by it have faces covered with bitterness and depravity. MY CHILDREN VIEW AND FEEL ME AS BEING FAR AWAY, NOT BECAUSE I HAVE TURNED AWAY, BUT BECAUSE THEY DO NOT LOOK FOR ME, THEY REJECT ME, THEY CONSIDER ME OUTDATED AND OBSOLETE. They change the Tradition in order to make it worldly and not spiritual… Discern! Whatever means conversion is hated by the world and the flesh. COMMENTARY BY LUZ DE MARIA Brothers and sisters: The times are becoming harder and all events are headed towards the fulfillment of the Revelations announced by Our Lord, our Blessed Mother and Saint Michael the Archangel - perhaps not with the immediacy that some might like, but let us not forget that the fulfillment of just one Prophecy will unleash the rest of them: this is a chain which when broken lets everything out. We need to come closer to fulfilling what is spiritually requested of us, because the enemy of the soul is lying in wait for man, more so than ever. What our beloved Lord is telling us is very clear: "I do not want you to be restless", because restlessness makes our physical and spiritual senses lose the center that is Christ and plunges them into depression, anguish, into indecision, and these states may be a stumbling block for some. Let us bear in mind that gaining Eternal Life is very difficult: it takes perseverance, whereas Eternal Life can be lost in an instant. The state of spiritual alertness is peace, Faith, Hope and Charity towards oneself and towards our neighbor. We know that we are creatures of God, but not yet perfect. Our Lord tells me: “Remain in a state of spiritual alertness so that you would walk My Path with greater tranquillity. Those who remain alert refrain from offending Me and therefore, knowing how small they are, they do not dare to fail My Love; neither do they assume the position of a judge." Amen.
So those who question Luz de Maria and other messengers from "the Father's House" are evil in the sight of the Blessed Virgin Mary? I've never heard her speak such damning things in scripture or approved revelations.
According to the Church, prophesy or public revelation is the deposit of faith of both Scripture and Sacred Tradition, which is taught by the Church. All Catholics are duty-bound to believe in public revelation. This type of prophesy ended with St. John the Apostle. On the other hand, private revelation covers apparitions, locutions, and all the other messages given through this type of phenomena. This type of revelation can be given to all sorts of people and all walks of faith - good or bad. It can come from God, demons, or be self-induced. That's why they are investigated and usually confirmed by numerous miracles. Catholics are not required to believe in these revelations. There is an ecclesial approval w/ Imprimatur by the Bishop who has personal knowledge of the seer, the messages, and had them printed....w/ encouragement to read them.....who approved the new title, "Queen and Mother of the End Times"; the devotion; the image; and declared the feast day. That actually follows protocol. This grant of "nothing against the teachings of the Church" is a guidance for those interested in following the messages and devotion and will be included in the history of discernment by the Church if or when there is any formal study. The messages may not individually appeal to someone but that's easy.....follow your own conscience and leave them alone, but it is not true that they contradict Church teaching.
It's not a matter of whether or not it has an Imprimatur or whether the messages appeal to me. You missed the point I was trying to make. According to the Church, my salvation does not depend on whether or not I believe any private revelation. My salvation depends on following the true magisterium of the Church and picking up my cross and following Christ. I am not evil if I don't follow Luz de Maria nor am I a saint if I do. I was simple trying to point out that either she stated something that was against Church policy or she had been mistranslated. So, does this mean if I don't speak glowing approvals of the spokesperson, I'm evil? If so, then that is against the Church's teaching.
