Interesting question raised about the imprimatur given to Luz de Maria messages in this article, Beware of So-Called ‘Church Approved’ Coronavirus Prevention Claims of apparition endorsement aside, such oils have been used for centuries in witchcraft for “protection.” Susan Brinkmann Blogs May 20, 2020 Alleged revelations from Our Lady to a Costa Rican woman that call for the use of essential oils to prevent infection by the coronavirus have gone viral on the internet. What should Catholics make of revelations such as these? The “seer,” named Luz de Maria de Bonilla, allegedly received a message from Our Lady on June 3, 2016, which gave instructions about the use of an essential oil blend which she called the Oil of the Good Samaritan, to be used as a preventive measure against infectious outbreaks. She said the vision also recommended that people ingest a raw clove of garlic every morning or to use oil of oregano because “these two are excellent antibiotics.” On Jan. 28, 2020, once again Our Lady is alleged to have told the seer: “Great pestilences, plagues generated by unknown viruses are advancing upon humanity. Use the oil of the Good Samaritan as protection, faced with a case of a highly contagious disease where you live — the quantity of the head of a pin on the earlobes will suffice. If the number of those infected increases, you should put it on both sides of your neck and on the wrists of both hands...” The oils contained in the Good Samaritan oil are cinnamon, cloves, rosemary, lemon and eucalyptus. This is the same recipe as a popular essential oil blend known as “Thieves Oil” which is associated with the legend of four thieves who robbed the bodies of victims of the Bubonic plague but managed to escape infection while using these ingredients. Such oils have been used for centuries in witchcraft for “protection” and are touted by essential oil distributors who claim they improves the immune system and protect people from infections such as the flu and viruses. Adding credence to the alleged messages is an imprimatur given by a bishop named Msgr. Juan Abelardo Mata Guavara, bishop of Esteli, Nicaragua, who approved the messages received by this seer which occurred from 2009-2017. There is no indication that Msgr. Mata — or any other Church authority — approved the 2020 message recommending these alternatives for use against COVID-19... Even though the Church has rendered no decision as to the supernatural nature of the revelations, the messages have gone viral on the internet, with many Catholics hyping the oils as being a “Church approved” method of protecting themselves against the coronavirus. As convincing as it all may sound, these revelations are raising eyebrows because they appear to contradict Church teaching found in the Ethical and Religious Directives for Healthcare Services. Based upon Pope John Paul II’s encyclical letter On the Value and Inviolability of Human Life (Evangelium Vitae), the Directives state: “A person has a moral obligation to use ordinary or proportionate means of preserving his or her life.” This is particularly true in the case of life-threatening or communicable diseases... Christy, you were the one in one of the Fr. Rodrigue threads who was adamant about just who could "officially" grant an Imprimatur (while you didn't provide the entire understanding of who and from where they could be given for guidance) and one of those you insisted upon as legitimate to grant an Imprimatur was the Bishop of the diocese who published the messages. And this is the case with Luz de Maria. So, which is it or do you just not personally like any ongoing Private Revelations? This has already been hashed out here. What is rather amusing now w/ the article you cited is the critics are themselves deciding just what the messages....esp. for these times.....need to say. Such chutzpah indeed!! So such persons are now suggesting they know how heaven thinks and that they alone can judge just what is "standard and not standard" for God's communication with a world which is itself on of "non-standard" times, compared w/ former times! IOW, they MUST satisfy the defective critic's own personal likes. I'd venture to guess that such individuals won't benefit too much from the wisdom given for the times that are upon us re: preparation and using the God given natural remedies (in fact scientifically legitimized themselves by places like Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as aids in therapy and treatment) for the times when normal and most modern medicines won't be available. Of course people also usually fail to include the fact that never did our Lady say that any natural remedy is magic on its own....but deep Faith in the "Queen and Mother of the End Times" sent by her Son whose Name the Holy Spirit works within is necessary. Also, you might again reread all of the possibilities open for granting Imprimaturs for guidance of the faithful in general about a private revelation while there is no official commission of study as yet declared....and that is expected as normal while messages or predictions are still ongoing. People need guidance about anything new and the Bishops (and others permitted) are offering such "guidance" for what is not against Church teachings. So "authors" who have written on other Marian PRs happen to disagree.....should be included in opinion offerings but that's all. With all due respect, you still seem to be stuck on "official Church approval" which comes only after the protocols established by the Church w/ a commission created just for that purpose have been completed. That has not as yet begun with this PR....and probably won't be while the events are still ongoing. Meanwhile we have the helps of those authorized to grant Imprimaturs to guide the faithful with a reassurance that the work does not contain anything that contradicts Church teaching. So, since people interested can be informed of these messages it's not a great idea to try to convince them otherwise when the Church has not declared anything of such Herself. You might just start a thread on all of the opinions of opposition against modern day PRs that have not as yet been "officially" decided upon by the church!
Do you have a link to something showing this bishop has jurisdiction? I wonder the National Catholic Register writer could not discover this. Also, If knowledgeable health care professionals caution against herbal remedies to treat covid-19--or anything, for that matter--I would pay attention to them, as opposed to an unrecognized private revelation.
You stated it yourself....the Bishop who publishes the messages and this Bishop did so having had the seer live for a time in his diocese, knowing her personally, as well as knowing and studying the messages in their history and meaning. What are the herbal remedies that your "knowledgeable health care professionals" have cautioned against? In fact such beneficial herbal remedies for the purpose of building one's immune system or respiratory system are recommended by health care professionals prior to any setting that could be one of possible contagion.....esp. when it seems that it is a virus that is more dangerous to those who have such compromised systems. They are therefore aids for prevention and strengthening of those systems that could be attacked.
Actually, I looked at Luz de Maria's official website and one other, and found nothing to suggest she's lived anywhere except Costa Rica and Argentina. It mentions the imprimatur as coming from a bishop who read her work. So, I'd have to say jurisdiction is still in doubt.
He had the messages published and did so via his knowledge of the seer while she stayed in his diocese. He also gave his personal approval, as a Bishop which has ecclesiastical standing, for the devotion, the novena, the image, the invocation and the feast day. I still don't know what you mean by "jurisdiction" for any Bishop who gives an Imprimatur. You are speaking perhaps of what would be an official approval coming from the Magisterium which has not even been asked for while the events are still ongoing and wouldn't even be expected at this time. As I explained previously while no one other than those within the Bishop's territory is effected, others may use that emphasis as a huge guidance for the security of what is contained within the PR as having nothing against Church teachings. And the seer has every right to state this particular Bishop's personal approvals of the total along with his Imprimatur. Your official "approvals" would be appropriate for a time when there is the formal study begun. Meanwhile if you are attempting to dissuade others from reading or being informed of this amazing PR as if they are acting against what the Church provides for and permits then you are yourself outside of what the Church allows, esp. when noting any Imprimaturs offered by those with the authority to do so in order to instruct the faithful that there is nothing against Church teachings. No one is saying that there is as yet any "official" commission established w/ the study of the entire PR. At this time that would be impossible. That's been offered here rather as a kind of straw man to discredit those in support of a non-condemned PR. If you believe that those Bishops or others allowed by the Church who have offered their personal Imprimaturs for various as yet unapproved PRs are not permitted to do so or that those Imprimaturs mean nothing in the eyes of the Church or for instruction of the faithful then I would suggest you take it up with each of those individual prelates and reprimand them for doing so as something illegitimate. It would seem that that is what you are attempting to do....discredit the degree of instruction contained in such Imprimaturs.

The only time combinations of essential oils would be considered "witchcraft" is if some kind of satanic chant had been placed over it. I also heard that from Women of Grace show on EWTN when discussing essential oils. They are natural products like frankincense and myrrh, both mentioned in the Gospel. So I think you are worrying needlessly. By all means use them if they help you! I like raw honey as an antibiotic . . .eycalyptus can be found in cough drops. I could go on and on , but essential oils . . .are essential.

Luz de Maria's online biography says nothing of her living in any place outside of Costa Rica and Argentine. It would be strange, but not impossible, to publish in another country, but you offer no evidence that is the case, either. You may say so, but that is not sufficient evidence that something is true. So, the questions raised by the National Catholic Register remain unanswered. I was sticking with your own mandated "place of printing"......and the Bishop of approval of the entire PR w/his Imprimatur on the published messages has, as has been noted, had them printed in his diocese. But I never insisted that his Imprimatur was an "official" Church approval but something that gives guidance to the faithful to trust the PR as having nothing against Church teaching. This fact though could perhaps make it so. I don't know about any article of the "National Catholic Reporter" that you mention above. I believe I was referring to another article you cited that chose to challenge the Imprimatur on the writing of Christine Watkins. These two PRs w/ same kind of objections seem to have overlapped re: the subject of Imprimaturs. You had asked: Why did Christine Watkins go to a retired bishop who did not have authority to issue an imprimatur on her work? to which I had offered this from Catholic.com re: Imprimaturs in general.... an imprimatur issued by a bishop in another part of the world would be unrelated to the apparition approval process. Such an imprimatur would mean that a bishop somewhere in the world has judged that the work does not contain anything that contradicts Church teaching. So, the implications for an imprimatur being given to a book of private revelations are the same as they are for any other book. It’s a judgment by an individual bishop that the work does not contradict Catholic doctrine. Nothing more.

You do not want to be renewed: the mud of the "ego" is more pleasant than conversion based on sacrifice. You must carry on praying with your soul, powers and senses, uniting to pray without distractions. Prayers are necessary for you as humanity. KEEP IN MIND THAT THE SACRED SCRIPTURE IS STRENGTH FOR GOD’S CHILDREN, THE EUCHARIST IS FOOD FOR GOD’S CHILDREN; NOURISH YOURSELVES BEFORE THE MYSTERY OF INIQUITY MAKES ITSELF PRESENT. (cf.
