I heard something that drew my attention the other day. Rikki Sunak, the British Chancellor was being interviewed about all the woes that are happening and suddenly out of the blue he said, 'You know Government can't fix everything'. That was the first time I ever heard a prominent politician in power saying something so very, very honest like this. So honest and so true.

Governments have become our God. We expect them to fix everything. We also think that things are naturally (materially) getting better and better in the World...the idea that suddenly they are not but suddenly getting much, much worse, I think, throws people. Their Gods are failing them.

But it strikes me that there is a huge kindness about the way God is doing this. He is tugging us gently from our false Gods so that we can turn our eyes towards Him.

However this period of the gentle tug will not last. We have only to see the people of the Ukraine, of the Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan to know what is to come.

Their Cross will be our Cross. We too have Great Mountains to climb.

I am fearful of him joining the army but can only pray that he will be in Mary’s arms.
