"Two Popes": Has the Papacy become a Diarchy?

I honestly believe the person who did this is being sarcastic. Maybe trying to be humorous in a very black sense of comedy. But there are people out there who could be influenced by this sort of bad joke.

And sometimes some of the well meaning critics of Holy Father Francis certainly make me think they know better than God how the Church should be run. And I don't find their attitude any better that this Nicholas Robison when all is said and done.

 

Yes, Julia, it is very disturbing. I'm still trying to get my head around it. I think there's a picture in the report which, thankfully, doesn't show up on my computer. I don't know how accurate the report is. If only a tiny part of it is accurate, there should have been disciplinary action taken against any bishop in Belgium who didn't speak out against what was being taught in the schools. Rather than being relegated to obscurity, Cardinal Daneels continues to have influence in the Church, from his success is getting Pope Francis elected right up to his inclusion in the recent Synod on the family.

None of that changes the fact the Pope Francis is the legitimate successor to St. Peter and there can be only one Pope. It's so hard these days to believe anything we read, or to figure out people's motives behind the leaks and insider speculation from and surrounding the Vatican. For all we know, the secretary to the Pope Emeritus could be trying to talk up his own position by making out that the Pope Emeritus is really still a partial Pope.

 

It's an incredible blessing to have two men, one a brilliant theological genius, and the other; a merciful father figure to guide us through these times. Thanks be to God!
