Great to know your baby is fine. Oh I do remember those ear aches and high fever when my kids were babies.
I worked at a multispeciality clinic in Omaha, NE, in the early '90s. One doctor was ENT. He had the amusing habit of saying "the child will be flying with their ears" ... meaning taking an airplane trip with family. Quite a visual. More prayers.
I visited Our Lady of Sorrows Shrine today and lit a 5 day candle for the children of Mother of God members and included all your intentions in Our Lady of Sorrows Rosary.
Continued prayers also for Lisa with ALS. We were with her Sunday. Yesterday- and she is weakening- cannot move any part of her body and voice- getting harder to understand. We prayed Devine Mercy with her. May Jesus Mary and St. Joseph and many Angels help her and may your baby be well. All our boys had to get tubes and then No more ear infections.
FWIW, "tubes in the ear" are the exception, not the rule. When I was in grad school for audiology, I learned that some studies have shown there's no advantage to them -- they neither lead to infections clearing up sooner or preventing infections from re-occurring. All I can say is to remember to keep giving the antibiotic at the appointed times (or as close to it as possible) every day for the full 10 days. Problems would happen because people would start feeling better and so stop taking the antibiotic after a few days. This resulted in a) the particular infection becoming resistant to that antibiotic, and b) in the cases of penicillin, the person would become allergic to penicillin. Reminds me of a story my Dad would tell from the times when doctors did house calls (before you needed to have all the blood tests run). He asked this older gentleman, from a part of the country where people didn't complain or go into a lot detail when asked a question. The doctor asked, "Have you ever had penicillin before?" to which the man answered "Yes". The doctor gave him an injection, and the man immediately went into anaphylactic shock. The doctor was able help the man through, and when his breathing returned to normal, the doctor expressed shock. He had never had a patient experience an allergic reaction to penicillin when they'd had it before. The man said to the doctor, "Oh, don't worry about it. The same thing happened the last time I had penicillin!"
Right now I'm really struggling because the antibiotics are giving my son diarrhea which is giving him a terrible rash that makes him scream when I change his diaper. And there are still 7 days to go!
S Speclal prayers today! ( yogurt helps counteract effects of antibiotics. Also there is a great topical medicine called "calmseptine" that my husband uses for a terrible rash. It works very well. A bit like Destin with some calamine and eucalyptus in it. Not sure if babies can use it but it brings great relief. 3rd suggestion--let him go diaperless during the day if possible just to let the air get to the rash and minimize any wetness aggravating his tender skin. Just some suggestions from an old mom. Prayers today for sure.
I'm so glad he's better. When I started reading, I thought because now it's the other ear and maybe needs a different antibiotic...I'm glad it worked out for you all PF....Late to the game and hope he is okay. Yogurt will be their friend. Live cultures. Can you get a powdered probiotic capsule and sprinkle some in his food?
My husband is about to go to the store and see if he can find the powdered probiotics and Triple Paste ointment
Apply a barrier cream to the area. Something that has zinc in it like sudo cream! Also warm water baths with application of the cream after the baths helps. God Bless you are your littler one
Oh poor little guy. I recall this happening to my granddaughter when she was on antibiotics, she was miserable from the rash and my daughter was beside herself. You got some excellent advice here. Praying that the nasty rash clears up.
