I looked up the symptoms for this with my own dog. There are a range of causes, one of which is ear infection. It is as with humans; Doctors differ patients die. But my guess is it was Parvo.

Praying for Raleigh. And all our little ones. I don’t know what I would do without my little girl. Love her so much. She’s a feisty Pomeranian.

The vet set him up with a round of Prednisone so praying it works! It could be Addisons Disease which is an inability to make the hormone cortisone so the pred would help that and any inflammation that may be in him causing pain. Hopefully by tomorrow he will get up and eat....

Yes. I wondered if thT was what afflicted Padraig's dog. I get the impression wherever Padraig goes his dog goes except this one instance in Turkey. Dogs have no sense of time. I am betting he thought Padraig was gone for good.

At Midnight last night I heard a noise and there he stood in front of my mattress I have on the floor (to be near him) ! He hasn't been up since Thursday afternoon! I offered him a plate of food and he ate the whole thing praise God. Drank a bowl of water too. This morning he again got up and came to the back door so I took him out to pee and he wanted a long walk but its snowing/raining and windy here right now so only took him around the yard but am so thankful! He will live I know I just am praying his quality of life improves. My friends are telling me to put him down and I just want to give him a chance. He WANTS to live. He is wagging his tail and playing with his toy....

Raleigh is still holding his own and eating and up and about. Very weak as compared to his normal self. I purchased pet insurance for him so that whatever happens I don't have to fret over how to come up with the money to diagnose or help him further. I need a new furnace/central air right now so have been worried about that. Not that I'm not blessed by the Lord am just on such a limited budget. Thank you for continued prayers! I know it is working! Today I put my statue of St Joseph on the shelf over his bed :)

I am just curious was the health insurance not very dear when he is already unwell?

Well the quote is that I bought was $60 per month. About the same as when I looked a few years ago for him. So perhaps they will cancel it or change the amount after they check his records. He has only been diagnosed so far with Anaplasmosis, a tick disease, and the xrays and blood tests I've done have all turned up that he is in good health. I even took him to a cardiologist last fall and did an echocardiogram on his heart to rule any cardio out. The cardiologist said he was perfect. So you are right I'm not sure I can afford the insurance yet if they raise the rate.

It's so strange. I am not sure we have tick disease in Ireland, thank God.

Just to let you know my beloved Raleigh died yesterday in my arms at home. He had been getting weaker and Sat night developed a runny nose. When I got home from Mass yesterday morning he was in full blown pneumonia and his gums were gray/blue. I consulted with the emergency vet service and also my Retired Vet and dear friend who advised NOT to try to transport him to a clinic for euthanasia that he would pass quickly and he did, at noon. My friend came and got him and buried him in their Newfie cemetery on their 40 acres. Along with Raleigh I also had him inter the ashes of my other two Newfies and my last Golden who had been sitting on my dresser so Raleigh had his brothers buried in the same hole with him. I am SO grateful to Jesus for answering my prayers regarding Raleigh, that the Lord Himself would take him. I know they do not have the same eternity as we do, but I also know that as our gospel said yesterday, He cares for even the sparrows sold two for a penny! so where ever Raleigh is there is peace. Thank you all for your prayers!

I'm very sorry to hear about Raleigh - they are so faithful and loving, plus they don't talk back to us:), the best of companions. Yes he is at peace, may the Lord give it to you as well.

A big prayer hug. My own big dog is not 11 years old and I dread him going.

But the pitter patter of tiny paws cheers me up.

Your own pictures of your really beautiful dogs puts me in mind of a Newfie myself.:)

So sorry, but grateful he died a natural death in your arms. Jesus answered our prayers. He did the same for me with my kitty, a natural death. I still miss her but she was old and ill and it was her time.
    Prayers.

You are familiar with big dogs so I believe you would do well with a Newfie! They are a big handful until about age two when they suddenly become super smart and wonderful and gentle.
