I received a letter from Conchita on this date, after the passing of her husband Patrick. I wanted to post the last sentence of her letter, it's TRULY PROFOUND.
She said: " Death for sure is not the end, it is the beginning and the vanities of the world are a loss of energy because it distracts us from the reality of life, and true happiness. "

    ARE YOUR HANDS EMPTY ?

    The Last Apparition at Garabandal
November 13, 1965, was a day mixed with joy and sadness for Conchita. The Virgin appeared with her Child to the teenager but it was to be for the last time at Garabandal.

As Mary had already indicated this was to be a special apparition for kissing religious objects and Conchita had many with her. After kissing the articles, the Virgin said: 'Through the kiss I have bestowed on these objects, my Son will perform prodigies. Distribute them to others. Talk to me, Conchita, talk to me about my children. I hold them all beneath my mantle. This will be the last time you will see me here but I shall always be with you and with all my children. Conchita, why don't you go and visit my Son in the tabernacle? He waits for you night and day."

Conchita said to the Virgin, "I am so happy when I see both of you. Why don't you take me now to heaven with you?" She replied, "Remember what I told you on your patronal feast day? " When you present yourself before God, your hands must be filled with good deeds done for your brothers and for His glory. At the present time, your hands are empty."

    MORNING OFFERING PRAYER

Our Blessed Mother said in Garabandal on October 18th, 1961,
"We must make many sacrifices, perform much penance, and visit the Blessed Sacrament frequently. But first, we must lead good lives. "

In 1945 Jesus told Lucia, the seer of Fatima, "The sacrifice and penance I now seek and require is the fulfillment of your state in life and the observance of my laws." Whatever your state in life may be you can sanctify all your daily actions if upon arising you recite sincerely the morning offering prayer. Through the "Morning Offering of Reparation" every act you do becomes a sacrifice. The word "sacrifice" means to make "holy." Once you have made your morning offering you make "holy" every act you do throughout the day. Whatever trial God permits to pass your way during the day becomes a penance — whether it be work, bad weather, rebellious children, sickness in the family, tight economic conditions or misunderstandings by relatives or friends. All these sacrifices and penances obtain graces the Blessed Virgin needs for the conversion of sinners.
Padre Pio said it best, "If you knew the value of suffering, you wouldn't give it up."

    The Brown Scapular

When Mary appeared as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, wearing the Brown Scapular over her arm, she instantly sent a message of its importance. It also connected the Brown Scapular to the devotions Mary talked about (the rosary, the morning offering, etc) to the Garabandal messages.
Mary has appeared in four apparitions with the Brown Scapular.

    Good afternoon, Glenn.

It has been FAR too long since I've posted on this discussion forum. As you know, I am a staunch and longtime believer in the apparitions of Garabandal.

Could you please address a question for me? As I recall, when St. Padre Pio died in 1985, initially this created some confusion in the mind of Conchita.
Eventually, however, she understood that the prophecy pertaining to Padre Pio was fulfilled in an unexpected way.

When Joey Lomangino died in 2014, did this happening result in comparable confusion for Conchita? Has she ever discussed with you how she herself has 'reframed' or reinterpreted the prophecy given in which Joey would be alive when the Great Miracle occurs.

(Please note that I am NOT interested in hearing how others have reconciled the death of Joey with the initial expectations held by many believers in Garabandal. I too have formulated my own interpretation and explanation. However, I'd be interested in hearing how Conchita herself has reconciled the death of Joey with dominant expectations regarding the Great Miracle and Joey having his eyesight restored. Thanks!)

Good to see you Credo. You probably have seen my feelings on this matter so I won't post them here (as per your request, but they are handy if you want to see them ,if you haven't ), and I did see Conchita at the Wake & Funeral, and we did briefly discuss this topic, her answer was as usual, succinct. I remember joking with her saying,
I think I know how the Apostles felt when Jesus died, after all their labors. Unfortunately I think I am going to have to wait more than 3 days for my "Easter Miracle", but just like then, when you think all is lost, God provides that miracle.

Conchita said she too had no fears, stating she was happy Joey was in heaven with our Blessed Mother & Padre Pio.

I have a strong suspicion we will be amazed at the Miracle , (and our questions will be answered ). God bless. Glenn

Thanks, Glenn. Well stated. It's much appreciated... :)

Sure. If you can recall the location of the posts you've made in the past regarding this topic, I'd be pleased to read them.

By the way, in recent years, has Conchita been spending an increased amount of time living in her flat located in Fatima? Or, has she been staying close to home in NY?

    Peace!

Here was my original response ( after much thought on Joey's passing ).

I had several thoughts that came to my mind when Joey passed..

“My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are exalted above the earth, So are My ways exalted above your ways, And My thoughts above your thoughts.” (Is. 55: 8-9)

“Oh, the depth of the riches Of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are His judgments, And how unsearchable His ways.” (Rom. 11:33)

On December 6, 1962,Conchita had a 90 minute ecstasy around 5:30 in the afternoon after which, she provided two more pieces of information regarding the Miracle: 1) One day, before the Miracle, something will happen that will cause many people to stop believing in the apparitions of Garabandal. The doubts and desertions will not be due to an excessive delay of the Miracle.

Jesus comments on belief of Garabandal before the Miracle
From Conchita, Diary pg. 204, 1966: He [Jesus] replied..."I want to tell you, Conchita, that before the miracle occurs, you will suffer much, for few people will believe you. Your own family will believe that you have deceived them. I am the one who wants all this, as I have already told you, for your sanctification and so that the world may comply with the message. I wish to advise you that the remainder of your life will be a continual suffering. Do not be freightened. In your suffering you will find me and also Mary whom you love very much... I will be with whoever suffers for me."

Most people did not know that Joey suffered greatly the last two years of his life, and in addition to being blind, he became nearly deaf and was so weak from several heart attacks, he could not attend mass. So, Did Joey fulfill saying the prayers he was supposed to say each day , to fulfill the prophecy to regain his sight ? Mary said :
"Joey do you want to see again?"
    "Yes."
"Then you pray. Say 17 Hail Mary’s, 7 Acts of Contrition, 5 Our Father’s ,
    3 times a day. “
I know the last 2 years of his life , he suffered so greatly, I am wondering if Joey ( in the midst of all his recent sufferings) wasn’t able to complete that or that he asked to be taken to Heaven early ?

What did Mary say EXACTLY to Conchita to tell Joey? She said “that you shall see on the very day of the Miracle. “ - Well this can also be interpreted as he will see the Miracle from Heaven or on earth in a glorified body ,both now sighted.

How many people continued to believe in Christ and his message ,after he died? How many believed Mary when she said ( as a virgin ) she conceived a baby from the Holy Spirit ? How many people mocked our Lord as he died on the cross, reminding him he said he would rebuild the Temple in 3 days, yet he was nailed to a cross now. The truth is revealed in God’s time and manner, not our limited human ones for understanding. For God , NOTHING is impossible !

The famous story when Mary kissed a makeup compact in one of her visits, and everyone was dumb founded as to why, when she asked to kiss only sacramentals, and she kissed this object of vanity ? Only later did she reveal that it was in fact a PYX ,used during the Spanish War to carry communion to the soldiers ! Again , we had to wait for the Heavenly answer.

Don't forget what happened with St. Faustina Kowalska!! Jesus promise St. Faustina she would assist to the institution of the Feast of Divine Mercy!! St. Faustina died in 1938!! And the Feast of Divine Mercy was institued in 2000!!
She has assisted to the institution of the Feast!! But from the Heaven!

Remember when God sent his prophet Jonah to the city of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria (one of ancient Israel's fiercest enemies), Jonah's initial message seems to be one of inevitable doom: "Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!" (3:1-4)

Contrary to Jonah's own expectations, however, the Ninevites respond to his preaching by believing in God, proclaiming a fast, covering themselves with sackcloth and ashes as signs of repentance, and praying to God not to destroy them. (3:5-9)
As a result, God changes his mind and does not destroy the city of Nineveh . It is possible here too ,that Joey’s sufferings at the end of his life (and they were numerous and great ) that God granted him his Heavenly reward early, and also to fulfill the prophecy mentioned above, to cause disbelief, as a test of faith.

I think I know how the Apostles felt when Jesus died, after all their labors. Unfortunately I think I am going to have to wait more than 3 days for my "Easter Miracle", but just like then, when you think all is lost, God provides that miracle.
I spoke to Conchita and she too had no fears, stating she was happy Joey was in heaven with our Blessed Mother & Padre Pio. I have a strong suspicion we will be amazed at the Miracle , (and our questions will be answered ). God bless. Glenn

    PADRE RODRIGO IS "CONSULTED"

Padre Lucio Rodrigo was consulted by the members of the "Special Commission" (to figure out what to do next )Following this encounter with the renowned Spanish theologian, Don Juan Antonio del Val,( the future bishop of Santander ). . ., resigned from the "Commission."

[Excerpted from 'Garabandal' Book, page 100]

What does it say about this " Commission" when its OWN investigative Priest resigns ? Del Val Gallo later becomes the Bishop of Santandar ,and he lifts the ban on priests to say mass there, and more importantly ,he initiates a new investigation Committee ,who findings are much different from the first bogus Commission, and they are sent to the Vatican. ( * also note the first Commission , never sent a report to the Vatican because they could not verify their claims, because they had no witnesses interviewed, they never even interviewed the girls or their families ! )

Bishop Juan Antonio del Val Gallo - December 1971 – August 1991. He was a member of the original commission but he resigned because of the way they went about their business. He was the only bishop to have witnessed the visionaries in ecstasy. In 1983 ,he gave Dr. Luis Morales ( of the original commission ) who was now a believer, permission to lecture in Santander ,defending the apparitions. In 1987 , he instituted a new investigation of the apparitions and lifted the ban on priests going up to the village. In 1991 , those findings were finally sent to the Vatican. * Notice that since the Vatican interviewed Conchita twice, and these new findings and interviews, there has never been a negative word issued from the Vatican.

    GARABANDAL CONFERENCE IN TORONTO 11-9-96
WITH JOEY LOMANGINO AND JACINTA MOYNIHAN.

I thought it would be a wonderful treat for those of you who have never heard Joey speak about his life, accident, conversion, meeting Padre Pio, trips to Garabandal, and the Warning and Miracle.

I was blessed to accompany Joey and Marilyn Lomangino to Toronto for this Garabandal conference , organized by Dr. Michael Rozeluk and his wife Helen, who run the Canadian Garabandal site ( ourlady.ca )

At about the 51:25 mark of this home made video, and the end of Joey’s talk, you can see people lined up to meet Jacinta and venerate the crucifix our Blessed Mother kissed. Also another line to meet Joey & Marilyn Lomangino , and venerate the large medal our Blessed Mother kissed.

Thank you, Glenn, for your personal insights and thorough explanation.

Years ago, I actually speculated that Joey might pass away prior to the Great Miracle being manifest. In fact, I wrote a lengthy post (on a different discussion forum) many years before Joey died pertaining to this very topic.

One aspect of the apparitions in Garabandal which I think distinguishes it from most other (but not all) contemporary apparitions of Our Lady is the profound 'mysticism' which imbued the phenomenon. In addition to what Mary said, everything she did was also intended to convey meaning and to highlight certain aspects of Catholic doctrine and spirituality (CCC, §67). Sometimes this meaning was veiled and became accessible to individuals only with the advantage of hindsight and with much prayerful reflection.

We all know that both St. Padre Pio and Fr. Luis Maria Andreu each had isolated previews of the Great Miracle in their own lifetimes. Simply because it was never public knowledge, who's to say that Joey himself did not have a comparable preview in advance of the public Miracle and a complete healing of his eyesight at the very moment of his death. We must recall that the prophecy of his eyes being healed was intended for Joey alone - it was a personal (not public) message intended for Joey and not the world at large. Therefore, the fulfillment of this prophecy need not be public knowledge as well.

Let me digress for a moment to make a point. In the course of the apparitions in Garabandal, Conchita was informed by Our Lady that the Communion Host (which she had been receiving from St. Michael the Archangel) would become visible to bystanders on July 18, 1962 and that she was to reveal this prodigy 15 days in advance. On the foretold date, throngs of people gathered to witness the foretold spectacle.

The present Code of Canon Law in the Catholic Church was promulgated in 1983. The prior code - which was in-force at the time of the apparitions of Garabandal - did not allow Catholic individuals to receive Holy Communion more than once each day. However, on July 18th (the day the visible Communion Host was expected) Conchita had received the Eucharist earlier that same day. It would have been a contravention of Church law for her to receive Holy Communion a second time. As midnight approached, increasing numbers of spectators left Garabandal, openly dubious regarding the credibility of the phenomenon due to the failure of the foretold apparition and visible Host to materialize. Yet, shortly before 2:00 am (technically the next calendar day) the now-familiar apparition with the visible Communion Host occurred.

Was the prophecy fulfilled? Yes! In the minds of the young visionaries, it was still the 'same day' since they had not yet gone to bed. The Blessed Virgin Mary, of course, wanted to respect canon law (which is morally binding on all Catholics); so the miracle of the Host was delayed until after midnight. Although matters did not transpire as expected, the prophecy was, nonetheless, fulfilled.

As Glenn judiciously mentioned above, on December 6, 1962, Conchita had an apparition at 5:30 pm wherein she was told that "...one day, a little before the Miracle, something will happen that will cause many people to stop believing in the apparitions of Garabandal. The doubts and desertions will not be due to an excessive delay of the Miracle." When I first heard about this prophetic statement many years ago, I could only think of two possible scenarios which would adequately qualify as a fulfillment: 1.) the Church would condemn the apparitions, 2.) Joey would die prior to the global experience of the Great Miracle. The first scenario seemed most unlikely, since Garabandal is not high-profile or problematic. The second scenario seemed more plausible. It also seemed consistent with many other aspects of Garabandal (such as the situation involving the visible Communion Host discussed above) in which foretold events were realized in ways which were unexpected.

Anyway, these are simply the speculations and musings of an uninformed son of Our Lady. As Glenn mentioned above, we will probably only have concrete answers to such questions in the afterlife.

ST. JOSEPH IS THE GREATEST SAINT

In response to Don Valentin Marichalar’s questions, the visionaries learned from the Blessed Virgin that “ St. Joseph is the greatest of all the Saints “

Why the late hour visitations ?

When the children were asked why the Virgin came at such late hours, they answered that the Virgin told them that it was at that time most of the sins of the world were committed and that they should do penance... And for them it was a penance, and not the smallest, to stay up until the Virgin came to visit them, late in the night, or very early in the morning. They performed this penance because the Virgin wanted it and also because they wanted to see her again.

TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY : SEPT. 4

From a tape recording on September 4, 1962, the Blessed Mother tells Conchita , there will be a Miracle in Garabandal, Mary will be there,
and it will be a long time from then !

From the book, “ She Came In Haste to the Mountain”
    http://www.garabandal.us/pdfs/she_wenthaste.pdf
    Scroll down to page 494

    Recorded on Tape
September 4th, 1962 was a Tuesday. According to Fr. Valentín’s annotations,
toward 11:00 in the morning Conchita fell into ecstasy at the door
    of the church, and there received Communion from the hand of the Angel;
somewhat later, the same thing happened to Loli.
The afternoon passed; the night began, and at 1:30 Conchita had an
ecstasy again. She went to the graveyard, made her way through the
streets of the village, prayed the rosary, sang the Salve. On entering her
home, she fell on her knees and said farewell to the Vision. As she was
speaking, a person near to her—not satisfied with just hearing what the
girl was saying—held a microphone to her lips. What he recorded from
this confirmed afterwards what his ears had not understood well.
You say there’s going to be a miracle? . . . And the miracle is going to be
    that? . . . And the Virgin will be seen? . . . And when? . . . So long
    away? . . . With me alone . . . No. I don’t want that . . . Don’t do that! Perform it with the four . . .
