I came across this article in SD this morning. It’s mostly about the authors mission on praying for priests. It struck me very much. I think it’s a good message as it’s sometimes easy to be critical of them and the “Church” in general. https://catholicexchange.com/worldly-priests-learning-to-love-the-leper-in-my-life/
Thank you for posting this. The author makes some excellent points in regard to the "lepers" in our lives ~ something I need reminding of myself.
A lovely article. I don't really know any priests nowadays. I mean I know them at a distance and their names, but I don't really know them. One of the Traditional priests appears to me as very, very holy. I suppose we expect priests to be holy. Down the years in the past I did know quite a few. I would say most by far were indeed holy, some of them very holy indeed, a few of them real saints. There were one or two or more who were not much good, but I have to say in my own life my experience of priests has been very, very positive indeed. But maybe I have been blessed. The saintly ones shone like the sun.
One thing I am very sorry about and that is that I never really got to know any nuns. Especially contemplative ones, I would have loved that.
As well as that I met and talked to two men who I am sure will be raised to the altars of the Church as Saints one day. One was an Archbishop and the other a Cardinal. I would really say most priests are good holy men doing their best.
Contemplative nuns are usually behind screens. Very secluded from the world. I don’t think personal relationships with the outside world are encouraged. Years ago, my friend Margaret and I started a conversation with the doorkeeper at the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, but that was as far as we got. A little bell rang, and we heard the nuns from within the cloister saying: O Lord, come to my assistance, O Lord, make haste to help me. That was their call to prayer.
