Here are some links for Free Catholic PDFs: some of these sites are a mixed bag, search and find out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a preference for reading from hardcopies, instead of a computer screen...as do many others. With most inkjet printers, printing a hard copy is not very cost effective. But buying a used or home laserjet printer and buying refilled cartridges, printing your own hardcopies from PDF is cheap and affordable. I use 'binder clips' to keep them together. Additionally, Adobe Reader(PDFs') if not your printer software will enable print 2 pages per side, both sheets , enabling 4 pages per sheet printing with manual turnover. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.freecatholicebooks.com/ http://www.catholicspiritualdirection.org/catholicbooksonline.html http://www.catholictreasury.info/library.php http://www.goodcatholicbooks.org/ http://www.digitalbookindex.com/_search/search010histuschcatholica.asp http://www.alabamacatholicresources.com/Catholic_PDFs.html http://www.2heartsnetwork.org/freelit.htm http://www.free-ebooks.net/category/religious More: http://www.basilica.org/pages/ebooks.php http://www.sanctepater.com/2010/02/free-catholic-books.html http://catholic-books.blogspot.pt/ A Christian site that has many of the classics, dont use it much , but PDF's free and for small purchase money http://www.ccel.org/ NewAdvent.org has a book? or online reader section. here is the library section http://www.newadvent.org/library/ but it has a Bible, ChurchFathers section and more. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Google Books: http://books.google.com/ Alot of books by Catholic saints and Catholic authors if they were originally published 100 or more years ago are available free as PDF's and other formats on Google Books. For instance, I got a title of 'Roman Martyrology' on Google that I wanted to read , but didnt necessarily want a real book, because although interesting it is hagiography (over the top stories, some untruth of Martyr Saints) . In addition with these, modern English became somewhat predominant in books from about 1870ish, maybe earlier & I'm guessing onward. So previous dates are somewhat tough slogs depending on the material with Thees and Thy's, etc. used in their regular typed grammar. So you can usually have a choice of the same title/author but one is in 1842 and another 1877, usually the 1877 would be the better choice , but not always. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amazon: Another lesser hint is Amazon. Some of the Kindle stuff is available for free, search in the Kindle section for your subject and order by price. Those for $0.00 are free downloads, and even more is free if your an Amazon Prime subscriber. Kindle books can be read on the PC with the Kindle PC software --free. There is also a freeware program(not Amazon approved of course) out there that can convert them to pdf for printing. Kindle software/readers do not let you print. So to convert to PDF and either view or print use the "Kindle PC Conveter" http://www.ebook-converter.com/kindle-pc-converter.htm (freeware/shareware) This converter(unpaid version) puts a watermark on every page, which surprisingly rarely affects the reading. What I do sometimes is look through the hard copy and see problematic areas, then refer to the PDF file and make corrections with pen/pencil. Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=catholic&qid=1353025078&rh=n:133140011,k:catholic&sort=price here is a link showing where the word 'Catholic' searched within the kindle library and sorted by low-high price which shows pages and pages of Kindle books listed at $0.00. A free download. I got Pascals Pensees through this. For this method choose the kindle store and search on a specific author or subject, then order on price . Usually older material is free.
