Sharing this note from Fr. Steve…. I look forward to seeing this movie. We need more shows like this and I’m happy to support it! it also brings back fond memories. I grew up very ear to where her Shrine is located in northern Manhattan (NYC). My mom woujd take me and my younger brother by bus there to visit and pray. As I recall, she was partially incorrupt… they used wax and she was displayed in full habit in glass case. I believe her heart is not decayed at all! Mother Cabrini By Fr. Steve Ryan, SDB Looking at the trailer for the movie Cabrini, I am thrilled that a great movie is coming out publicly about the life of the most zealous and mission-driven nun that I’ve ever read about. This movie is a profound and masterful film and is in theatres starting today March 8. Mother Cabrini is the female version of Don Bosco! I just know you will love this movie! From Alejandro Monteverde, award-winning director of Sound of Freedom, comes this powerful epic of Francesca Cabrini. She was an Italian immigrant who arrived in New York City in 1889. New York has its share of trouble now, but back in her day the city was infested with disease, crime and impoverished children. Mother Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society’s most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen. You talk about a powerful woman… this nun was a force to be reckoned with. I wish the Church had more religious men and women who had the guts she displayed. Watch the movie. Check out the trailer. You talk about women’s fight and right for equality, health and happiness – look what she did as a woman for women! You talk about solving the immigrant situation – look what she did. Talk is cheap. She got her hands dirty and helped set things right. Led by the Holy Spirit she helped tens of thousands of immigrants get going on to productive lives. You talk about children in need – she helped scores of orphans and was so pro-life. She devoted 16-20 hours a day for vulnerable children and babies. May we all be inspired by Mother Cabrini’s magnanimous approach to care for the most vulnerable. All done with Jesus, through Jesus and for Jesus. In her own words, “The world is too small for what I intend to do.” Go watch the movie. I plan on going. (Click here to find a theatre near you showing Cabrini.)
Did you see the movie, Miker? I liked it, but wondered if the screenplay really matched her biography. The cinematography was so beautiful. I don't think she met with the New York Times staff writer or with the mayor. I just have serious doubts about those parts of the movie. Here is her biography https://www.salvemariaregina.info/Martyrologies/Cabrini.html
I really liked the movie. I thought it was a fine picture skillfully done and beautifully acted. Touching. Inspiring. I highly recommend it. Also recently saw One Life. Also very powerful and moving.
Just got back from watching the movie Cabrini. It was very inspiring. And I admire her obedience. When the Archbishop didn’t agree with her she took her case to the Pope. She had tremendous faith and def moved mountains. Well worth seeing.
It’s actually on in uk cinemas but I have a cold and will sadly miss it. My eldest daughter who lives in the USA saw it with her husband who is a nominal Catholic. He was so moved he wept. It sounds like a wonderful fruitful film.
I'm sorry you have a cold. My husband who is no fan of the Church sadly--was incredibly moved. Like your SIL.
Years ago, probably 30, I was in at a flea market and saw this really old photo of Mother Cabrini. I bought it and have carried it around with me all these years. Now that I’ve seen the movie I know more about her. I think the actress looks so much like her!
