Finally a movie about a great (future saint ) and Catholic hero, Mother Teresa ! Opening on December 4th.
I watched this with my husband a few months back; a beautiful and affecting film. Way to go, excellent Catholic movies! They should film more like these!
Thanks for this Glenn. Mother Teresa went through the Dark Night of the Soul for most of her life. People, even Catholics interpret this as meaning that she doubted herself and her Faith whereas it was just part of the mystical voyage . For instance people who are dying often go through this. She was also attacked directly by the devil. When she was in hospital shortly before she died she was attacked in this way and the Archbishop of Calcutta who was also in getting treated in the hospital authorised a special exorcism service at her hospital room. None of this need alarm or concern it, it was pretty well par for the course for saints and maybe for us too at some point in our lives, often just before death, the final cleansing. If you read Padre Pio's letters in a three part series you will see much of the same. They are also very, very well worth reading. https://books.google.co.uk/books?id...ved=0ahUKEwjvhuz3pNTVAhVrJsAKHbHcDesQ6AEIKTAA
It is also interesting how often the saint has come under attack since her death. You'd think now she is dead they would leave her alone. I was listening to a programme about her on BBC Radio Four last week as a podcast in the Great Lives series. The interviewer was a famous homosexual politician and he certainly did his best to rake the dirt on her. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08mb1g4 But famous fellow Albanian opera singer Ermolea Jaho, who sang at the saints funeral defended her quite well. I think she was taken aback to see Mother Teresa attacked in this way so openly.
I just watched this movie this weekend and although I am no expert on her life I thought it was a wonderfully done and well thought out tribute of her life's work in seeking to be with the poor and to offer them help. It seems to me that anyone who is a Catholic and carries their cross as she did will surely attract the ire of the world. It should be considered an honor I think.
How Satan must hate her to provoke such ugly criticism. I would say she is having the last laugh as we say but she is too charitable to accept that. She is no doubt interceding for these poor benighted souls from heaven I am sure.
I think it is one of the marks of a very great saint that they be attacked after their death. It's also a sign of the times.
When I awoke after the night shift a little while ago I saw Our Lady standing at the end of the bed in white smiling down, very briefly, at the end of the bed. Then she was gone. Shortly after I heard our Lard say very clearly to me, 'I have reserved you to myself'. I have the most urgent sense that something terrific is about to happen in our poor world. Heaven is moving, God is just about to act. We need to ready ourselves spiritually and not let ourselves get distracted, we must fix our eyes on the Cross. Fix them very hard in prayer. This life is passing; only heaven is Eternal.
I hope there will be yet more time. But you may be right. Everything has speeded up. Everything! Everyone around me is so busy making plans and dashing here and there and I say all the right things expected of me but I am like an actor playing a part. An actor whose heart is not in the endless play acting. I barely hear the chatter. I am thinking “be still...” and I feel a deep need to stay put and enter into prayer but it is SO hard. The noise is spiritual as well as physical. Prayer is such a struggle.
I think our hearts show us that the, 'Normal', is about to end. But another part of us is hoping/telling us that we will keep on walking down the road as is. I think this produces a strong sense of the unreality of things. The World keeps on making preparations for a tomorrow that will never dawn.
The Parable of the Rich Fool …19Then I will say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take it easy. Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ 20But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be required of you. Then who will own’ what you have accumulated? 21This is how it will be for anyone who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich toward God.”…
Bookmark for later reading, er..... maybe I found this movie for people to see on youtube, I will seek to see it eventually... I hope the audio and all is fine with this. I don't know if this media is carried overseas, I watched this last weekend, I teared up at different times in the movie. Researching some on her, some said she's the American Mother Teresa and that is Dorothy Day. I read criticisms of the movie too. Some of these movies aren't perfect but they are a start. Watch Entertaining Angels: The Dorothy Day Story (1996 - Free Movies | Tubi (tubitv.com) A Paulist movie, just like another movie I saw... I researched them, they actually have a production company in Southern California... Paulist Productions I'll try to write up a bit more on this soon...but I think the movie is well worth watching. Bad connection... I'll hope it is working more later.
