So, with the 2024 US Presidential Race now down to (1) Donald Trump and (2) Nikki Haley, curious what others here think about the latter. One of the things I like about her is that she brought Inter-Racial Healing after a brutal White Supremacist Killing in a Black Church. What do you all think, is she good, or is Trump better, in your opinion? I was earlier hoping for Ron DeSantis, since he's so Pro-Life, now I think a Haley-DeSantis 2024 Ticket might be optimal given the current options. I know many MOGers like former Prez. Trump, and I did too earlier on, but I think he lost the anointing post J6, and especially recently when he attacked 6 Week Heartbeat Bills, which DeSantis, Reynolds etc have signed. Let's pray, and discern together. God Bless.
The incident I was referring to in the OP: https://www.postandcourier.com/chur...cle_b4bd22ac-b0bc-11e6-9369-03fdf4b26a4f.html "Gov. Nikki Haley prays for healing at Emanuel AME Church A brotherhood of church bells tolling around Emanuel AME Church ushered a procession of diverse clergy down the church’s aisle on Tuesday as the faithful heeded Gov. Nikki Haley’s call to pray for healing across the state. Haley, along with U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, joined dignitaries and several hundred others gathered to pray at Emanuel, where beneath their feet a self-avowed white supremacist gunned down nine black worshipers studying the Bible in June 2015. She pointed to that horrific night and a spate of other tragedies that have tested the state’s residents. Anyone who has been in South Carolina for the past two years recognized the sad litany Haley recited. A videotaped police shooting shown around the globe. The massacre of Bible study participants. A 1,000-year flood. Hurricane Matthew. The death of a boy shot at his elementary school. And, now, the threat of wildfires. How has one relatively small, rural state endured so much? “The reminder is of the faith and the action that happened with every one of those tragedies,” Haley said. “Faith alone is not good enough. Faith with action and kindness and love will always take us where we need to go.” Which is why, Haley added, she called on people across South Carolina to pray for healing as Thanksgiving approaches. Other churches across the state took part, as well, including Grace Church Cathedral downtown, just blocks from Emanuel. Haley urged people to remember the families of those killed and the jurors who will decide the fates of North Charleston police officer Michael Slager, whose murder trial is ongoing, and Dylann Roof, the admitted church shooter. Roof’s nine victims’ loved ones are awaiting a judge’s ruling any day on the question of Roof’s mental competency to face his death penalty trial, which was supposed to start two weeks ago. A stream of prayers from Emanuel’s pulpit asked God for healing from the myriad tragedies. But most speakers noted prayer alone isn’t enough. “The blood of the Emanuel Nine and Walter Scott is calling out for justice,” said Bishop Samuel Green Sr., whose AME district spans South Carolina. The priest whose historic church sits across the street from the federal courthouse where Roof’s fate will be decided remembered the night of the Emanuel shooting. The Rev. Al Zadig and his wife were walking several blocks away toward Marion Square. Suddenly, every police car in the city seemed to race down Calhoun Street. “It was the night that the name of a wicked and ruthless man would go viral - the name that we now know to be Dylann Roof,” said the Rev. Al Zadig Jr., rector of St. Michael’s Church. In response, people of faith must delve into the dark spaces of their own hearts or risk allowing hatred to foment in the aftermath, he said. “Lead us as a culture and country to continued repentance,” Zadig prayed. And to action. For instance, Zadig’s church is opening its doors to grieving family members and others seeking solace from twin racially charged trials taking place right across the street."
I do not like Nikki Haley at all. I don’t believe she is conservative. When she was governor of North Carolina, she vetoed a bill that would have prevented gender neutral bathrooms.
Nikki Haley has backing from some Republicans and moderate Democrats. The one position of hers that bothers me the most is that much of her campaign support comes from defense contractors. This will pressure her to participate in the warmongering tactics of the Lindsey Grahams of the world. After abortion, warmongering is my deepest regret, and I will refuse to support such candidates.
I think she may be swayed by whichever way the wind blows too. Her stand on abortion is heh, what? Don’t be fooled by Nikki Haley’s soft-talk on abortion - The Washington Post
She's an establishment shill, bought and paid for. I must watch my tongue, I was going to write something totally horrid about the poor woman's personal life. My good angel warned me not to. She is a war monger to boot. She reminds me of Joe Biden with gender/age dysphoria. When I look at her pictures I feel like a little mouse about to be eaten by a mad cat. Plus I don't like her very much. (As you may possibly have guessed.) “She hath more hair than wit, and more faults than hairs, and more wealth than faults.” William Shakespeare, from The Two Gentlemen of Verona
I imagine that Ron DeSantis's withdrawal in favor of Trump could help him to have a firmer pro-life stance, as he did during his only term.
I like Governor Haley. Perhaps it's because she's from an Indian background, as I am, but I don't think it's just that. I also think she'd win across multiple demographics including White Americans, Black Americans, and her fellow Asian/Indian Americans against Biden. I can think of at least 3 arguments for her: 1) The Electability Argument: "The argument we just heard from Haley—that she is the most electable Republican candidate—is based on a Wall Street Journal poll last month that found her beating Biden in a head-to-head match by 17 points." https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/go...ver-biden-in-wsj-polling-qByTNcx5uHOCTq443PVW I think Governor Haley is the Most Electable Republican the repubs have ran since Raegan. She often says "Repubs have lost 7 of the 8 popular votes for President, and it needs to change". If she's the Nominee, there's reason to think that would change. 2) Her Qualifications Argument: She is (1) A 2 Successful 2 Term Governor of South Carolina (2) A UN Ambassador widely praised for her role in standing up to e.g. North Korea. (3) An Accountant/Budget Hawk/Fiscal Conservative etc 3) Finally, on the Pro-Life thing: She signed a Pro-Life bill in her state: https://edition.cnn.com/2016/05/25/politics/sc-abortion-bill/index.html And: "Nikki Haley Says She Would Have Signed Six-Week Abortion Ban as Governor The former governor of South Carolina, who has tried to thread the needle on abortion in the G.O.P. race, made a gesture of support for stricter limits on the procedure." https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/17/us/politics/nikki-haley-abortion-six-weeks.html So I don't think she is not Pro-Life. It's just that, as a Woman, she may actually be able to speak about the Abortion issue in a compelling, winsome way.
Also, on the War thing, with her Husband in the Military, I don't think she'd send US Soldiers off to War without absolute necessity. She's often said: "A Strong Military doesn't Start Wars. A Strong Military Prevents Wars". I think she's a typical Peace through Strength Raeganite Conservative. I'd be surprised if she carelessly sends her Husband off to War just like that.
"When I look at her pictures I feel like a little mouse about to be eaten by a mad cat." This is hilarious! I needed a good laugh today. I know very little about her, I do know that she is helping Biden.
I think Biden would rather face Trump than Haley. Also, Trump might be in Prison by then. That's probably why the Lib Dems want Trump to be the Nominee, he might be the only one Crazy Woke Leftist Liberal Loser Joe Biden could actually beat, lolol. Tweets from Governor Haley. https://twitter.com/NikkiHaley/status/1752447329913700591 1. "Our campaign has been flooded with notes and emails from folks across the country who want to make America normal again. They know that we can do better than two 80-year-old names from the past. I’m fighting everyday to make you proud – let’s go! https://foxnews.com/politics/nikki-haleys-inbox-flooded-with-support-post-new-hampshire-primary-a-normal-political-leader" 2. "Another reason Donald Trump won’t debate me… His PAC spent 50 MILLION in campaign dollars on his legal fees. He can’t beat Joe Biden if he’s spending all his time and money on court cases and chaos." 3. "Thank you for the kind words,@ScarlettAWilson . The world is on fire and the country is in disarray. We need strong leaders who are at the top of their game at every level – from the White House to our local prosecutors." 4. "I have a different style and approach from Joe Biden and Donald Trump. No drama. No vendettas. No whining. Just results." https://twitter.com/NikkiHaley
I confess that I find this US electoral system in which several candidates compete for the party's nomination, attacking each other, very strange. I have no idea if this is implemented in other countries as well.
In India, the other country I'm most familiar with (I was born Indian, but have worked in US Companies), the system is like this: Party A and Party B choose their Candidate through internal voting/popularity within the Party, e.g. Rahul Gandhi and Modi currently. And then those Candidates representing their respective Parties, in this case, the Congress Party and the BJP Party respectively, go out and campaign as normal and try to win votes. I think the US System has some advantages in that anyone can run, and become President, if they get enough support. But arguably it also has some disadvantages. But anyway, we have to make the best of what there is imo. In India, I'm very much praying/working for a Rahul Gandhi victory. Have to admit I've not been as keen on Governor Haley as I was on much stronger Conservative RonDeSantis, but I do think it'll be nice if she wins too. But let's see. It's in God's hands. Btw, did anyone see this in the above: "“The reminder is of the faith and the action that happened with every one of those tragedies,” Haley said. “Faith alone is not good enough. Faith with action and kindness and love will always take us where we need to go.” Lol. Nikki Haley almost speaking as an unconscious Catholic in those words, when we consider that Sola Fide is one of the main tenets of Protestantism.
Gov. Haley Tweeted a New Poll that shows her crushing Biden, while Trump loses to him big time: "BREAKING: A new @QuinnipiacPoll confirms it again - in a head-to-head matchup, I beat Joe Biden and Republicans take back the White House. Donald Trump loses big and we end up with President Kamala Harris." https://twitter.com/NikkiHaley/status/1752784465804296319
In the United States, as in the West generally, pollsters are no longer stoically neutral, if they ever were, but have become part of the electoral process itself. If my memory serves me well, pollsters were telling us that Hilary Clinton was a sure thing for the presidency in 2016 until the moment Trump was declared the winner. Who would be most keen for the general population to accept the validity of the poll above?
Hi DeGaulle, let me repost with a Twitter Post of mine, I'm fairly active there and also was recently ranked around 20-25K out of around 1 BN accounts. Lol, not bad, and I also use it to spread teh Gospel, i.e. Evangelism, as well as Political Activism: "Thanks, Anonymous, but respectfully disagree. I myself, when a Consensus of Polls were showing Trump beating Ron DeSantis. in Iowa, mistakenly thought they were mistaken - I was enthusiastic for DeSantis, lol. But Iowa came, and turned out the polls were right. Similarly, a Consensus of Polls is extremely unlikely to be incorrect. After all, the Candidate can always release their own Internal Polling if that's the case. So it is clear. 1) Nikki Haley trounces Loser 2) Loser realDonaldTrumploses to him, lol. Trump is exceedingly unpopular outside Republicans, it's clear." https://twitter.com/Xavier_DMercy/status/1752987487092224036 And that's why Trump lost to Biden too. By some 7 MN votes and 70 Electoral College Seats. You don't have Big Losses like that without losing. Yes, the Dems probably tried to cheat, but I doubt very much it swung the election. I want to clarify one thing. I worked in BNY-M between 2015-2017. I am from India, yes, but know America well. In 2015, I thought a Rubio-Cruz ticket was better than Trump, and still do, though I supported Trump after he won the Nomination, for the sake of Pro-Life Supreme Court Justices. Hope that helps clarify better where I'm coming from. God Bless you.
Thank you, Xavier, for Twitter Catholic evangelism. I dislike Trump's egoism (I refused to watch the 2nd debate with Biden in 2020). But I have to admit during his first term, not only was his position against abortion strong, but his international policies were very successful; he is not a neocon. I disagreed on his covid-19 policy, cringed over his $1000 giveaway policy (it fueled our inflationary crisis), but admired both his crude oil policy and his resilience in facing extreme harassment from the Left. It was a mixed bag, but nothing like the last 3 years! God's Will be done.
Trump has major faults, but when he was in power we seemed to have a lot less war, certainly no new one. He didn't seem to be at the beck and call of the MIC. Haley seems to have definite connections to the MIC, but this doesn't necessarily imply she's a war-monger. She might be, and hopefully is, of the Reagan category, and consider that peace is best kept from a position of strength. If, like the Biden administration and their supporters, she sees war as a replacement for diplomacy, that could be cataclysmic. Is she a Zionist?
