FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2008 Music while you pray in Medjugorje What a pity the Medjugorje parish authorities are planning to play recorded music in St James Church when there are no services. (see announcement on medjugorje.net) Whatever the type of music intended to be aired, classical or any other, the peace of many pilgrims will be disturbed by this intrusion. When I visit St James Church in the afternoon, I arrive to meet and speak with Jesus, I seek quiet and stillness. Now, it seems, my ears will have to compete with the sound of music as I attempt to tune in to Jesus in his Father’s house. Where I come from, it is considered very bad manners to play the radio or have the tv on in the room when visitors come calling. There are many signs posted around the prayer places in Medjugorje requesting silence. Please, Medjugorje priests, or whoever is responsible for this latest “gimmick”, reconsider this intrusion on the silence to be found in St James’ church as we seek to pray in peace and quiet. Thank you. And on the subject of intrusion... do we really need webcams stuck on the outside walls of St James? What is the purpose?
