Sadly I have almost never heard any of that taught from the pulpit for my entire life.

    Thank goodness for Sensus Fidelium!

I’m sure there are numerous reasons Gary, but poor formation in the seminary for decades now is probably high on the list.
So many catholic devotions have been abandoned.
This is why the mother of God forum is valued....we can remind and share these with one another.
As Catholics, we are obligated to learn and study our faith.
This forum provides many sources for all of us. It allows us to share and ask others questions about the faith.
In short, this forum is a blessing.
Thanks to Padraig who heard the call of Our Lady to initiate and run it...with the aid of other dedicated members.
Thank you all...Hail of Mary for all of you.

In the 1960's the Church leadership made a conscious choice to try to make the Catholic Church more appealing to other religious groups, particularly Protestants. It was why they changed the Mass to look almost the same as an Episcopalian service. In order to accomplish their ecumenical goals they had to stop teaching uniquely Catholic things like mortal sin, the Rosary, etc. This is one of the major reasons we are in the huge mess we are in now.

Hi beth. Well you are right about this forum, this I have no doubt. But I stilll cannot help but wonder why it that for priests to spend all that time learning in semiaries that there is not a much more of a deeper teaching for their congregations. If there is so much more to be taught by the church for the enrichment of their souls then it should be done. You would think it would just be the right thing to do. Well I will count my blessings instead of complaining and thank God for all the things I do have including this forum. God bless you... Gary

This reminds me of the penance of fasting from meat on Friday that most today don't even know was never intended to be done away with. A good read on why it remains a good penance.

"We shall thus also remind ourselves that as Christians, although immersed in the world and sharing its life, we must preserve a saving and necessary difference from the spirit of the world. Our deliberate, personal abstinence from meat, more especially because no longer required by law, will be an outward sign of inward spiritual values that we cherish."

Gary, if you have been following the sad history of abuse and how catholic seminaries were operating...poor formation is but only one of issues that plagued those institutions. Traditional men who entered the seminaries over the last four decades or so were met with a large infiltration of homosexual men and rectors. Devotions such as the rosary for many were discouraged. As were other traditional devotions.
We have been aware of this cultural change for some time, but only recently have we come to see that this conducted is systematic. Many heterosexual men were either forced out, or simply left....and they were not encouraged to stay. The seminarians who remained...with many exceptions....were all tooo happy to lose traditional practices and embrace modernism. Hence, the problems we are encountering today within our church.
The fight is on globally for the faith...who will control the reins of power to either return to the traditions of our faith...or to further enbrace modernism....

    At least thats my take...

I didn't know that. That sure would explain much of the mess today. That was what? 60 years ago. They dug a deep hole for themselves and for many souls i would think. There's going to have to much prayer now directed to the church and its priests. Well keep the faith and God bless... Gary

    Boy Don,
You are so right about the penance of fasting from meat on Fridays. I had thought that it was just dropped!
It absolutely was not. You are permitted to substitute another form of penance if needed, but we are still to be making a sacrifice on Friday’s.
I’ve never heard it from the pulpit...but because of sites such as this, I was set straight!

You know I have to be honest here. It really wasent that long ago that i became aware of some of the abuses in the church. I thought at the time that all denominations must have these problems and they probably do. But I never thought the abuse was so prevalent. And as to the churches homosexual priests! It's almost inconceivable that things are this bad, not to mention all these abuses that are now coming out. You know as I write this I find myself thinking back to when I was young and I looked upon a priest with such trust, never questioning his position and authority. Sometimes I feel like a fool to have trusted so deeply but aren't we supposed to? Makes it much harder now I can tell you that. Can't tell who is who anymore. Through it all I must keep my eyes on God and keep praying and trusting in Jesus and taking comfort in our blessed mother.
May all of heaven help us. God bless you... Gary

Reposting this here...I have not viewed the video, but if the commentary is any indication, it might explain why our church is in the mess it’s in. .??

    OFFICIAL: ABOUT THE FILM

The award-winning team of Producer Mark Terry and Director Paul Stark brings you THE VATICAN DECEPTION – a feature documentary that examines several controversial prophecies and why many believe they are at the heart of the most significant cover-up in the Vatican’s history.

Several prophecies were reported by three children to have been revealed by the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal, during a series of apparitions that took place at the height of World War I. According to the children, the Virgin announced the end of the Great War, and what followed was a miraculous turn of events that led to the historic armistice of November 11, 1918.

The prophecy of greatest interest involves an instruction for the Pope to consecrate Russia – a five-minute prayer that would stave off a global apocalypse. Fatima scholars argue that the consecration of Russia has been attempted by several Popes, but never fulfilled as instructed by the prophecy. While the threat of Russian invasion in the Ukraine is renewing fears of World War III, the Vatican remains strangely evasive about the Russian consecration.

On June 26, 2000, the Vatican published what is known as the Third Secret of Fatima. The document contains a mysterious vision with apocalyptic themes, and a reference to a missing text that has been conspicuously guarded by the Vatican since 1957.

The Vatican is suggesting there is nothing more to publish; however, evidence to the contrary has appeared in recent years. Key questions remain unanswered, contradictions are surfacing between Popes and Bishops, and evidence regarding manipulation of truth is emerging day by day.

"He deceives himself who thinks the prophetic mission of Fatima is concluded," according to a statement made by Pope Benedict XVI.

This feature documentary explores the evidence with exclusive footage of Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis, and includes revealing testimonies from Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone (the former Vatican Secretary of State), Dr Malachi Martin (Vatican professor and advisor to three Popes), Father Gabriele Amorth (Chief Vatican exorcist), and many more.

Amidst these testimonies lies an incredible story of incalculable human tragedy, and hope for a peaceful future. Join us as we take you on a remarkable journey to Rome and around the world to reveal the hidden truths behind the ominous prophecies, and why they are considered by millions to be humanity's final hope.

For readers of my posts, may you and your loved ones be blessed in Christ's Holy Name and in His Merciful Love. Amen. My blog - MaryRefugeOfHolyLove.com
