Wonderful- My daughter saw the painting from over my shoulder and noted the baby's eyes looked more like an adult's than a child's. She understood why. Just wonderful!
I was wondering too if any one could tell me the name of the artist and/or the name of the work. I've see it many many times and each time I'm arrested by it. It's so powerful and so peaceful at the same time.
Its nice and cool summery. Its 25 C here and I am in my shorts for the first time in 90 years. :lol: They tell us it is going to be the hottest summer in history, please God it may be so. The painting is, 'La Vierge au lys', 'The Virgin of the Lillies' by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905). I love the way Our Blessed Lady is looking down at the forum as though taking at interest in all that is going on here (which I know she is). Also Jesus in her arms , thus fulfilling the direction of so many faithful Catholics, 'To Jesus through Mary'. Padraig, beautiful, thank you. I see now that it's the way he uses the light and the roundness of the bodies. The light looks as though it comes from within the bodies...just as it should! I admire your weather. Our mountains just got snow last night and we are polar fleeces and long pants, 45F. Chilly weather for the valley at the end of May, kind of unheard of.
