In Austria Bishop Hermann Glettler set up an image of the Sacred heart surrounded by a Durex in a hospital Chapel. This being of course a Blasphemous representation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. WHat was he and the artist thinking? I have just no idea. The Bishop is now facing criminal charges. Happy days. I wonder if he is insane? https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/a...ng-pig-heart-lenten-cloth-in-catholic-church/
Noteworthy in the comments someone pointed out that it was the regular laity that protested this nonsense. Not the church hierarchy.
Just by looking at the photo I'm wondering, is this meant to symbolise how contraception prevents couples from giving themselves completely (ie with their whole heart) to one another? Even if the intention is good it is an ugly image that is blasphemous within a church setting.
the Orthodox Church follows a whole pattern for the creation of its iconography; for example, the creator of sacred art has to be a person deeply dedicated to prayer; this is one of the things in their spirituality that should be absorbed by our Church; and that is why I look forward so much to the reunification of the two Churches.
You have a kind heart. I suppose one way of knowing would be to show it to an innocent child who has Devotion to the Sacred Heart what it thinks and take if from there. After Mass every morning in Clonard Monastery I stop at a little side Chapel of the Sacred Heart to stay a while and pray. Every time I do so I think of what Jesus said, 'Behold this Heart which has so loved men!' I would find it difficult to so if it were a pigs heart.
