Cardinal Burke is very wise here. It is not merciful to advocate intercommunion with non-Catholics. It is the exact opposite. The Church does not allow intercommunion for a very good reason. It is a sacrilege and can be very damaging to the souls of those receiving. This is not just "holy bread" and "holy wine" to be handed out like candy and shared. This is the very physical presence of Jesus Christ that is brought to us by the consecrated hands of priests through transubstantiation. That is why the Church has always been very careful about who can receive.
Which 2 cardinals above any others do you think are holding steadfast on to the Church's doctrine and have been the most outspoken about it in the last few years? It may not be a fair question, but possibly Cardinal Burke and Cardinal Sarah?
I would probably give the standard answer: Cardinals Burke, Sarah, Pell. Bishop Schneider. Sadly there are not a whole lot who are outspoken. There are a goodly number more though who are silent but see the problems. Prophecy has told us though that this was going to be the case and that the majority would go along with the watering down of Catholic beliefs.
To me it's hands down for Cardinal Burke and Cardinal Sarah. It is quite difficult to speak up when you feel surrounded.
Agreed. I give them major kudos for what they and others are doing. No one wants to be "unpopular" and right now following the teachings of Christ is much less popular than following the way of the world. Modernists like to tell half the story. They want God to be all fuzzy and cuddly all the time.Yes He is Love and Mercy, but He is also fearsome Justice. That is something they like to ignore. They prefer to remold God into an image they find more appealing. But Christ said: Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And as a man's enemies shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it. Matthew 10:34-39 These are not cuddly words. The Lord did not send easy lives to the saints. He sent sickness and difficulties. It is by great trials that God brings those He loves close to Him and perfects them. This is what He does to those He loves.
