The Anglican Centre in Rome has let it be known that Cardinal Comastri, arch priest of St Peters basilica has given permission for an Evensong service to take place on March 13 2017!
ugh under the banner of ecumenism, probably, I know St. Thomas More is turning over in his saintly grave along about now. Why don't they sing in their own church? GRRRR
The only liturgy which should be celebrated in Saint Peter's or any other Catholic church should be CATHOLIC. As for ecumenism - there will never be unity with the Anglicans now that they have women bishops as well as women priests, poncing about in vestments similar to our own and referring to "the Church" as if the C of E was the actual Church of Jesus Christ. Their orders are not valid - full stop. I am more than amazed that Cardinal Comastri is allowing this. Or did he go biretta in hand to Pope Francis? He would definitely have given permission. I'm fed up!
Never say never, although I suppose it depends on what is meant by unity. Collegiality covers a multitude. Reading the attached report, it appears that the Anglicans use a system of democracy to decide what truths are worth believing, and what is held to be true this year can be overturned by a popular vote next year - a kind of sensus fidelium that's also on the Catholic horizon http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...n-report-lgbt-rights-gay-clergy-a7582611.html
Yes, the Church of England is a democracy and things may change by popular vote - they could allow "gay" marriage, but they aren't like to remove their women priests and bishops. It doesn't concern us, though, because the Catholic Church is not a democracy. Anglicans are still heretics - or isn't one supposed to use that word any more? They should not have a service in a Catholic Church.
Coming to a church near you. Might as well get used to it. There's a movement in the Catholic Church to copy the Protestants. Watch as the "sensus fidelium" gets ever more prominence in the Catholic narrative.
The Novus Ordo already is protestant! Communion in the hand is rampant - this is an Anglican practice. Shaking hands at sign of peace, priest being centre of attention when Our Lord should be.......so many people don't see what's already happened. Oh and the altar rails have gone. The Sanctuary is now merged with the rest of the church........ With a statue of Martin Luther already in Saint Peter's, whatever next?
Erosion of respect for Mass and the Eucharist goes hand in hand with the secularisation of the Church - Cardinal Hume's unity in diversity and diversity in unity, you can't have one without the other. It's the spirit of Vatican 11 don't ya know. Game, set and match for the St. Gallen Mafia.
I've been reading some bits and pieces about him lately. That unity in diversity and diversity in unity quote is attributed to Pope John Paul. Trouble is that some extended it to mean any and all differences were acceptable in the name of unity - not just between Catholics and Protestants but within Catholicism. A member of the St. Gallen group, Cardinal Hume was very much on the same page as Cardinals Martini, Kasper and others who would water down the faith to a whatever you're having yourself kind of Christianity.
Clare, I was lapsed for a time, as I think you know. It was when Hume was Cardinal Archbishop. I returned with RENEWED VIGOUR in 2000 and became even more of a serious Catholic when our dear Benedict XVI was elected. As you Know, I came back to a topsy turvy Church.....and I mean the buildings as well as the liturgy. No altar rails.....standing in line for Communion......no mantillas.....walking about shaking hands before Communion. But I've stuck to what I believe and WILL NOT give up!
I found this informative video by accident a few minutes ago in which they are discussing the Evensong service scheduled for 3/13/17, they are asking for people to pray the rosary at the end of the video.
The trouble with something like this is that many people, Catholics as well as Anglicans will say "What a good idea! What a way to help us get back together!" They are WRONG of course. But I know some Catholics who think like this. I was brought up Anglican and know the service of Evensong very well, but when I became a Catholic I left all that behind - very wllingly. Why do this? We have our own liturgies and they are correct. By allowing this the Vatican will give the impression that it's all right to be protestant. No, it is NOT ALL RIGHT! Our martyrs died for the Mass.......name all those who died between the reigns of Henry VIII and the end of the 17th Century, most of them under Elizabeth I 1558 - 1603. Did they die in vain? NO! The truth is there is no salvation outside the Church. We need to get this truth across, not pander to protestants. At this rate, there will soon be a Muslim service in Saint Peter's - if Pope Francis goes on much longer there probably will be. Wish I had a supply of these leaflets, but they don't seem to be available in the UK.
