Christ is Risen! Alleluia I love the Easter Vigil Mass with one of the most moving moments being the Litany of the Saints. Knowing and celebrating Christ conquering death and then renewing our baptism where we die to self in order to rise with him with all the saints being invoked is awesome!
We had friends over after Easter Vigil mass for a fire, first of the year in the fire pit. Beautiful starlit night with a full moon, 44•. View attachment 2796 A Happy and Blessed Easter to all!

Happy easter all. Jesus has risen in my heart in a special way this easter. I had such a wonderful Holy Week. My easter vigil Was a small affair of about 50 people. I live in a small community, but it was lovely and following the priest holding the new paschal candle, out of the starlit chapel yard with the fire, back into the darkness of the Church was moving and wonderful. For the first time I can remember, nearly all in the church vacated their seats and went to the chapel yard, so re-entering the empty, dark chapel was lovely, lit by nothing but a single candle.
Actually I don't think its a tradition anywhere that I know of but our homeschooling families here are always getting together around a campfire when the weather permits. We had an awesome ham and baked pineapple in the oven for everyone. And a case of Sam Adams winter variety pack in the cooler. And lots of nut rolls and poppy seed rolls for good measure. This needs to become a new Easter tradition here for our family at least, like an extension of the Easter Eve fire at mass. It was a joyous occasion.
I also experienced an unforgettable Easter vigil. I was able to go to the monastery, and process into the church behind 15 or so priests, mostly under 40, and 2 novices! The homily, as usual, was wonderful. The Abbot quoted St. Bernard's abbot that the word Alleluia is a taste of heaven on the lips. St. Benedict devoted an entire chapter in his rule to when the word Alleluia would be spoken, and when it would not. Then the homilist said that there are only 2 parts of the year: the part when we say "Alleluia", and the part when we learn how to say "Alleluia". Jesus Christ is risen today - He is truly risen. ALLELUIA!!!
A glorious Easter to you Brian, and to everyone besides! I love the fire! We always enjoy fires at our camp tucked away in the woods, but winter still has too much of a grip here east of Lake Ontario! "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? 6 "He is not here, but He has risen!
Miker, Thanks so much! The Litany of Saints in this complete form is very powerful indeed, and exemplifies how Liturgy possesses the gift of prayerfully transporting our souls! Alleluia! Safe among the Cloud of Witnesses!
He has risen and defeated death! Alleluia! Backyard fires are pretty common here in the northeast all summer long...keeps the mosquito's away!!
miker, This was the version of the Litany that we sang last night at my parish! A Glorious Easter to everyone. Jesus Christ is risen, indeed!
