The priest then takes the paten or ciborium and goes to the communicants, who, as a rule, approach in a procession. The faithful are not permitted to take the consecrated bread or the sacred chalice by themselves and, still less, to hand them from one to another. The norm for reception of Holy Communion in the dioceses of the United States is standing. Communicants should not be denied Holy Communion because they kneel. When receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows his or her head before the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the Body of the Lord from the minister. The consecrated host may be received either on the tongue or in the hand, at the discretion of each communicant. When Holy Communion is received under both kinds, the sign of reverence is also made before receiving the Precious Blood. #161. If Communion is given only under the species of bread, the priest raises the host slightly and shows it to each, saying, Corpus Christi (The Body of Christ). The communicant replies, Amen, and receives the Sacrament either on the tongue or, where this is allowed and if the communicant so chooses, in the hand. As soon as the communicant receives the host, he or she consumes it entirely. look here it says you choose my only suggestion is dont receive it in the hand, as no one forces and cannot force you to take communion in the hand as this is a sacrilege if you dont take communion in mass because they are forcing you to take Communion in the hand, just dont take Communion, you dont sin, the paschal precept is take Communion at least once a year
It is a sacrilige to receive communion in the hand? Does not the priest himself do so? Is he too in sacrilege? I prefer the tongue, but will receive Jesus in the hand as necessary rather than not. I think it is unwise to say on the tongue or nothing. Every host is touched by the priest or lay distributor, are they not? Or does anyone claim to have the host go directly from the consecrated vessel into your mouth?? Bad advise IMHO.
if someone gets stabbed with 12 stabs, but he survives, its not killing. so you didnt kill that person but almost killed him if you risk taking communion in the hand after seeing the video, will you risk commiting a sacrilege if a small piece from The Consecrated Host falls on the floor and stepping on it? saying its not a sacrilege is the same as saying, its not murder if you stabbed someone 12 times and he survived, both are severly wrong and shouldnt even be thought on doing.
1000 mindless, distracted communions on the tongue isn't worth 1 deep, spiritual, prayerful union with Christ taken on the hand. IMO I have always taken on the tongue for years but now it's almost impossible due to covid. My union with Christ through communion has never felt stronger or more grace filled than lately. On the hand. God wants our hearts and our trust first and foremost. Refusing Him completely due to hand requirement (allowed by His church authority and therefor accepted by Him) seems silly to me.
Who on earth is advocating a mindless, distracted communion? That's a false dilemma. Also, the Church does not have the authority to deny anyone the Eucharist on the tongue. If that's the case in your parish, I would find a different one.
What? Are you saying you cannot be holy or even holier than a priest? Mary was not a priest and is holier than all priests. There are many laity holier in heaven then priests in heaven.
If the Eucharist is received with reverence and allowed by the church, to receive in the hand is acceptable. To tell people not to receive the sacrament because one cannot get a priest to allow reception on the tongue (which is against the will of the church, people have the right to kneel and receive on the tongue) is your personal opinion. You are bound by your conscience, however, others will do as their conscience tells them. Christ became man, died for us, all of us belong to the Priesthood of the people as it is says in 1st Peter, so it is not a sacrilege to receive in the hand. I have read some of the private revelations on this subject, the church is not going along with them. If St. John Paul 11 actually thought that to receive the sacrament in the hand would somehow be harmful to the devout receiver, he would have been bound by conscience to speak up, he did not. He did say he prefers, and could not recommend reception in the hand. Also, the tongue as it says in the letter James, is what commits sin, since it shows what is in the heart. We can praise God one moment with the tongue, and the next moment, destroy someone's reputation without a thought......yet the Lord comes to us. I do think, it would be good to go back to the old practice of receiving on the tongue because it will remind us to be more reverent. The danger of the sacrament is that people will take it without thinking about what they are doing. We are called to be mindful of the power of the Eucharist. Peace Mark
