I haven’t written an article for a print periodical in many years, and frankly had no plans to do so again. However, I’ve been volunteering with Dr. Robert Moynihan and his Inside the Vatican magazine for almost a year. He asked me to submit an article on the current status of the Traditional Latin Mass. It’s now published in the May/June edition, page 26. The third page is behind a paywall, but as soon as I can compare their print version with what I submitted, I’ll post it here. “Traditiones custodes and Canon 87: How they are being implemented” https://issuu.com/insidethevaticanmagazine/docs/inside_the_vatican_magazine_may-june_2022
Congratulations Brian! Our Lord has taken you to the next phase of his mission for you! Very exciting.
Well, honestly I finished this article a month ago, and I’ve just taken a couple weeks off for trivial pursuits.
Thank you, Brian; I enjoyed reading Cardinal Sarah's position: the monolithic opinion of the West's view of Russia, especially as it pertains to the Orthodox Church. God will sort all this out. Christ Jesus will prevail!
This link should open the entire May / June issue of Inside the Vatican. They said I could share it. Please let me know if the link works: My article starts on page 26 https://issuu.com/store/code/VMDRQ9QK
I just got a chance to re read the article (I submitted it over a month ago). I’m still amazed they printed it. I’m more amazed at the note their assistant editor added in a box at the end of the article. It could have appeared in the Remnant or Catholic Family News.
Thanks ,Brian. I will read it tomorrow. I might subscribe to the magazine . My father used to get it years ago
We just had an editorial staff meeting today at Inside the Vatican and they gave me a print copy of the magazine. The post script that the associate editor placed just under the last page of my article is worth reading. It gives a sense of the trajectory of "conservative Catholic" publications at present:
We had our parish's synodal listening session this evening. Some Traditionalists expressed their concern; Bishop Lucia commented that Traditiones custodes is a favorable instrument in the hands of the right bishop. He basically shared he is still in his 50s and will allow the TLM great latitude. There are currently available TLMs in each of the diocese's four main urban centers and he will make sure they remain available! Three of those are within 60 minutes of our home. He is a very generous man. With the aging of our priests, some deacons have been chosen and trained to be parish administrators. But Bishop Lucia has just also assigned himself to a vacated parish while still fully functioning in his episcopal duties! Amazing! Lord give him an abundance of grace and energy! Please pray for him! Safe Under Mary's Mantle!
We couldn't find a substitute priest for our parish for Ascension Thursday (my pastor is home on vacation in Africa). Bishop Lucia was celebrating a High Mass (TLM) at St. Mary's in Oswego, NY. So Geralyn and I went there. St. Mary's is a beautiful Church over 1oo years old. The choir was wonderful. There were 2 priests, four deacons, and 6 acolytes up at the altar assisting; much solemnity with organ accompaniment. It started at 6:15 and finished at 8pm. About 300 in attendance. I had to remind myself not to say "Amen" when kneeling to receive Our Lord. It was nice to receive from my previous pastor, Fr. Schultz! Lots of young families. Some Nashville Dominican nuns were with us! Refreshments followed until 9:15. The parish has a wonderful courtyard! At a TLM, the priest presents the Host while uttering a prayer for the communicant, saying (in Latin), "May the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ preserve your soul unto everlasting life. Marvelous! https://stmarysoswego.com/
Excellent examination of the issues involved in the “Old Mass” vs “New Mass” discussion, just released this week, definitely worth watching!
