Our adoration chapel is open Monday through Friday, 6am to 8pm. My wife and I have the last shift on Friday night. For the last couple of weeks, There is no priest coming over to put the blessed sacrament away, it has been a lay person and this bothers me greatly. Am I wrong? A small church with two priests that are spread too thin, I get that. But I've been going to adoration on Friday nights since June of 2021, and there has always been a priest to come over. I don't feel that lay people should be moving the blessed sacrament from the side adoration chapel back to the main tabernacle behind the altar. ???
I don’t like it either WW. This is a pretty detailed explanation. It appears under certain circumstance a lay person could do this…. https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/exposition-of-the-eucharist-by-a-layperson-4344
Thanks so much for this. Tonight it was a Eucharistic minister, Last Friday it was the church custodian. There have been Friday nights where nobody came over at all, in which case we're supposed to just turn off the lights. Our adoration chapel thankfully has a locking door, and you need the code to acess it. I certainly don't like it either, feels wrong to me.
