It is hard to overestimate the importance of this, it may well be the start of open warfare in the Church. The start of the Schism.

For those who have said, 'Pope Francis is Pope , whatever he says or does is fine with us', this must be a real kick in the head. Now they have Francis heading one way, Benedict heading quite another. What to do? Where to go? What to think?

There must be a a lot of dizzy confused Catholics out there this morning.:)

If it helps any. All you have to is follow the perennial teachings of the Church for the last two thousand years. The job of the Pope is to conserve these, not to make new novel stuff up as he goes along.

    The book quotes:

"I CANNOT KEEP QUIET OR PRETEND IGNORANCE"

Some catholic authors who, even at this late hour, choose to ignore whats going on and look the other way would do well to meditate and carefully ponder these words...

For the good of their souls and the souls of thousands of their readers who are being misled...

To confuse and obfuscate. It's an old tactic.

There appears to be a little spin coming out of the Vatican about Pope Emeritus Benedict's fragility and that he is in no condition to give speeches on complex topics.

The Vatican is just looking ridiculous.

Even the liberal media realize this is a clash between two popes, between two visions for the church.

I am a little surprised the rigid, Conservative, Pharisaical old Bloggers like myself have not been falling over themselves to respond to all this. I read from a few Liberal sources and the Vatican. But nothing really up posted yet. Perhaps they are still in a state of shock.

Maybe because they know it will be ignored by Pope Francis? He stacked the Synod with Bishops who wanted an end to celibacy. Everyone knows that, just like everyone knows that the real goal has nothing to do with evangelising pagans in South America and everything to do with ordaining married men in Germany - ultimately men and women in gay "marriages". And "Synodality" will ensure that the practice becomes the norm in the universal Church.

Did you know that less than half the priests in Germany go to Confession at least once per year? What are the chances that they believe in Transubstantiation?

It's Rome Reports. Not sure if they're an official Vatican source or an independent outfit. Independent or not, they get an awful lot of access to the Vatican which would cast doubt on whether their news coversage is objective. It's hard to find out who owns the company. I've seen them described as the Vatican's Pravda. Maybe they're friends of the corpse.

The reason Pope Benedict is in no condition to give speeches is that his voice is almost gone, and has nothing to do with the complexity of the topic. The recent TV documentary from Bavarian TV made it clear that it is his voice and not his mind that's failing. Rome Reports linking his ability to give a speech on complex issues with something he has written on complex issues is dirty journalism.

The stance taken by Pope Francis on this issue, as with many hot-button issues, reminds me of "Catholic" politicians who are "personally opposed to abortion but.......".

Pope Emeritus Benedict and Cardinal Sarah are not alone in their corrections of this papacy. I don't know if this has been posted yet but it is a powerful sermon using the most recent letter of Archbishop Vigano to Pope Francis. Around the five minute mark is when the letter is introduced. It is one of the most truth-filled and eloquent responses to the charade of Catholic events coming out of the Vatican. We are all witnessing their martyrdom for love of the Holy Name of Jesus.

The great difficulty with grave sin , especially if it is carried out habitually over a long period is that it smothers and eventually kills the conscience. When the conscience had been self murdered then we enter into pure evil.

The soul is never static it is always on a journey; either into The Light or into the Dark.

That journey we make not only as individuals. Families of Nations, families of societies Family of Church. This becomes reflected in our surrounding culture.

I don't think there is any doubt our surrounding cultures have entered a period of pure total evil:

A perfectly formulated post -- we are in deep trouble - like those living in Nazi Germany we have sleep walked into pure evil and most have been indoctrinated. Welcome to Orwell's 1984.

Our Lady said this in Fatima way back in 1917,

'Many priests and Bishops walk the road to perdition and drag countless souls there along with them'

“The floor of Hell is paved with the skulls of bishops.”

    St Athanasius

“The road to Hell is paved with the bones of priests and monks, and the skulls of bishops are the lamp posts that light the path.”

    Saint John Chrysostom
