Austen Ivereigh, the former Director for Public Affairs of the previous Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, has previously spoken out about Pope Francis’ future. He said: I don’t think there’s ever been any doubt that he will resign. “He made clear from the beginning that he regarded Pope Benedict’s (XVI) act as a prophetic act of great modesty and he would have absolutely no problem in doing the same.” https://www.express.co.uk/news/worl...ears-mass-vatican-city-coronavirus-latest-ont Pope Francis has been suffering a lot in the last few months from sciatica, which isn't life threatening but is quite debilitating. What chances he resigns 2021? Where would that leave us? Could 2021 be the Year of 3 living Popes?
I read last week that as of January 22 Pope Francis has been pope longer than Pope Benedict was Pope. Hard to believe.
As a Cormac myself, I hope Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor is correct and we can start over with a new and better pope.
A thorough and convincing presentation by Archbishop Schneider. His clear denigration of "innovation" is correlated to an appreciation and adherence to Tradition. Thank God for Archbishop Schneider. Mary Most Holy, pray for him.
I think , Terry the way it works with Bishop Schneider is that there are three Bishops in Kazakstan (which is quite a large country) / the other tow agree with the Bishops agree with him and have giving him the nod to speak out and globe trot. Schneider should have been archbishop but got sunk for speaking out. His family have wonderful history of keeping the Faith during the Communist persecution.
Sciatica is no joke. I have it on my right side. Some days I can't get comfortable in any position. That's standing, sitting or laying. And pain pills can only do so much. I really feel for Pope Francis if he does have it. Will he resign because of it? We'll have to wait and see. I've had mine for several years now, and his has only been mentioned recently. So, I suppose it depends on how much trouble it's giving him. If he feels it's getting in the way of him doing his job, he might step down. Who knows what we'll get next. It might be a good pope, it might be someone horrific. I hope it's a good pope who will lead the church against heresy at all levels. All we can do right now is pray.
if that were to happen some cardinals would not be able to go to Rome to participate because they are vulnerable to coronavirus
A virtual conclave would win them lots of brownie points from the global warming crowd. Between them, they would save many thousands of carbon footprints. And they wouldn't need to leak the details to their favourite journalists. The hackers would give us all a blow by blow account.
More papal resignation rumors, as well as pope’s seeming plan to put an end to the title /practice of “pope emeritus” and placing an age restriction on the papacy itself, so that popes must retire at 85:
I listened to this. But say Pope Francis passed a rule were all future Popes retire at 85. OK. But why would any future Pope obey a law that Pope Francis himself made? What authority would he have to make rules binding on them? The logic escapes me. It appears to suggest that Pope Francis has more authority than in any future Popes will or could have and is assuming more authority than any Pope had in the past. I mean the authority to limit the Reign of all future Popes. To order them out of office at a particular age. Why does his authority as a then dead or retired Pope trump that of a , then, living and Reigning Pope? For him to order them what and what not to do and that they should obey him? This baffles me.
Poor Pope Benedict; ever since I heard that the actually physically attacked and threatened him, my heart went out to him.
It occurs to me that a tough Pope whom if they tired to hit would hit them back a lot harder and a lot more permanent with something large and heavy might be a very good idea. In other words a tough fighting man. St Peter himself always struck me as such. A guy who knew how to use his fists; both of them. Someone who at least if they were slow to respect or obey , that they might learn to fear or even dread a little.
Anything this pope says or does can be overturned by a future pope at the blink of an eye. If such were not the case, how could this pope himself overrule not only Summorum Pontificum but Quo Primum? Everything this pope has done will have to be re-examined by a future pope and much of it abrogated.
I hope they have him buried in unconsecrated ground for a start. Possibly with a stake through his heart.
